We recently eloped and decided to have a reception/family reunion for friends and family to celebrate our union. I did all the coordination myself and because of the event staff at the Portofino Hotel I always felt like everything was under control. They have amazing tools to help visualize everything, super responsive and caring event managers (big shout out to Rain V. who runs a tight ship and understands how to create the best programs for his hotel and his clients!), and a wonderful banquet staff that executed the night perfectly. The location for the price cannot be beat. Cocktail hour at sunset in the marina was truly magical and the venue itself was spacious and well-appointed. Hightly recommend! Reviewed on 27-11-2023

Where do I begin?!! The Portofino Hotel & Marina was INCREDIBLE!!!!!! From day one all the way to today, a few days after the wedding, all the staff we encountered has been excellent!! Specifically I want to give a shout out to Sierra, Rain, Luis, Paco, & Mac & Melanie. Sierra was my main hotel wedding coordinator and contact. She was so responsive, attentive, organized, sweet, available, and amazing!! I couldnât be happier with her and her services. The entire experience was seamless. We planned an entire wedding in under 2 months together as I was eager to marry my man this year. She was so helpful and explained any and all things when I had questions. Starting with booking the venue all the way to the day after the wedding. Everything was so organized, including the deadlines of decisions I needed to make, and payment info, and what to do if it rained. She had everything covered. THANK YOU THANK YOU SIERRA!! Rain was also another venue coordinator & catering sales manager who helped us too and he was amazing as well. He stepped in when/if Sierra was out of the office and he attended our tasting and answered so many questions as well. He was so nice, sweet and great to work with. Very organized and never missed a beat! Thank you Rain!! Luis, the director of Banquets, handled anything food and drink related and everything was perfect. He even placed two of each hors dâoeuvres at our sweetheart table (knowing we probably wouldnât get a chance to eat them during cocktail hour as we were busy mingling) and he was right!! It was such a sweet, simple gesture that made a big impression on us. Paco was one of the Bartenders from the day of (I never got a chance to meet our other bartender) and he was so fun and cheerful and positive and an overall great spirit. Guests kept telling me how much they loved Paco and me too! Mac worked on the hotel side and we met him when we checked in and he handled ALL our luggage and he also golf carted me around on the actual wedding day so I didnât have to walk too much. He was super sweet and was so helpful and had a great vibe! Also, my initial point of contact was Melanie who responded to my initial venue request. She was so great and helpful and responsive that right away we were sold and we booked the venue the next day without ever even seeing it in person. On top of all the AMAZING staff, the venue is just absolutely beautiful!! You canât find a prettier ocean front venue in the So Cal. Just gorgeous. We chose a type of all-inclusive wedding package that included a sit down 3-course dinner, open bar, ceremony, hotel room, wedding cake, and many more perks such as white linen, candles on each table, arch on the ceremony grass, champagne toast, etc. It was perfect, efficient, organized and made my life so easy. I really didnât have to do much except invite guests and show up!! many of my guests told me afterward they were so impressed with the staff, venue and the food!!! Seriously, the food was excellent. I know all of this sounds too good to be true but honestly it was. I had zero problems, no horror stories, nothing. It truly was a PERFECT day. I also found out afterward that a coworker of mine got married here too this past summer and she said the same thing. Her day was perfect as well and I am not surprised at all. Thank you to everyone at the Portofino! We cant wait to come back just to enjoy the restaurant, the views and the excellent service đ Reviewed on 21-11-2023

The Portofino Hotel & Marina was the venue my husband and I chose for our wedding. It was the perfect venue for us. We always dreamed of having a wedding by the beach, and the minute we walked into the beautiful hotel we knew that was the one. The staff was friendly, helpful, and professional. Rain and Sierra answered all of our questions and went above and beyond to make sure the cost stayed within our budget. The valet guys and banquet staff helped us load everything onto carts, so we didn't have to carry everything ourselves. And the front desk helped us with our hotel room and even gave us a discount since I stayed an extra night the day before the wedding. One of the nights we stayed at the hotel, they had live music and it really added to the relaxing, chill ambiance. Reviewed on 03-09-2023

We had our reception at the Portifino Hotel and It was such a delight! We are not based in L.A. and I was nervous about planning a wedding (I did not have a planner) from far away, but the Portifino and Rain Villanueva made the process so easy and stress-free! Rain was so responsive from the start before we had even signed a contract and provided us with all the information we needed. He was so flexible and even FaceTimed with us to show us the ballrooms. We visited the hotel in person before deciding where to have the reception, and as soon as we showed up all the staff were so lovely and welcoming. The beautiful views of the Marina from the ballrooms, the gorgeous and serine lobby, and the delicious food at the hotel restaurant were more than enough to convince us to have our reception there and It did not disappoint on the wedding day! The staff were all so sweet and professional and the reception was so much fun, our guests couldnât stop telling us how much they enjoyed It! Also, a few family members had strict diets and the chef and staff did an amazing job with the food and making sure they also got to enjoy their meals. All of these hotels are beautiful, but the Portofino is the only hotel that gives you a full ocean view throughout your whole wedding. My main two contacts at the Portofino, Chris Schmidt and Rain Villaneuva, were always on top of things and never hesitated to go over things again. Chris and Rain were with us throughout the whole COVID pandemic and kept in contact with us. Rain went above and beyond in communicating with the chef to make a gluten and vegetarian pasta for some of my guests, was polite and patient, and he even held my husband's wallet and phone during our grand entrance. My parents commented on how accommodating and sweet all the waiters were. My family and guests raved on how good the food was, even the picky eaters enjoyed the food! Our complimentary ocean view room was delightful! I loved how our view captured both the Palos Verdes peninsula and \"seal island.\" I will say this, if you are looking for big spacious rooms then this may not be the hotel for you. Call ahead and ask for room sizes. The hotel property isn't very large, but there is a pool, bikes to rent, a restaurant and a beautiful lobby. The location of the Portofino is perfect! If you want to walk, you're about 15 minutes from the Redondo pier which has so many affordable things to do and places to eat. If you're venue hunting for a wedding or any type of occasion, then please consider this place. If you are visiting the South Bay for the first time, then please consider this place. Do your research and make the necessary calls, but in the end the Portofino is the right place to go. Kim's customer service was fantastic both prior to and the day of the wedding and the catering team the day of was wonderful. They asked when the salads were to be placed and I said as soon as the first dance was over. The second that music ended, they came through the doors salads in hand. Absolutely excellent! The venue is well maintained and stunning both inside and out. The food was great and the included bakery was fantastic as well. The pricing is more than fair. Everyone kept ranting and raving about the food, service and atmosphere. Several people told us that was the best wedding food they ever had. We hosted 120 people and had our ceremony and cocktail hour out on the lawn - it was a beautiful day and was set up so perfectly. The bartenders were extremely accommodating and the wait staff was constantly checking in with us. They kept to the schedule and there was never a lull in the evening. The planning process was easy with them as well. If we got married all over again, I wouldn't have changed anything with the venue - it was perfect! Reviewed on 06-08-2018
Melissa Grieve(bride)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 14-07-2018 Held our wedding reception here in the Pacific Ballroom during a July and I would only recommend it to brides who used a wedding coordinator. Had difficulties with communication throughout the process both with catering and booking a hotel block. Ultimately though the hard work paid off and my wedding coordinator ensured the day went off without any problems! We ended up getting everything we asked for but not without a headache. Pros: Views and food were amazing! We stayed at the hotel for several nights before the big day and I loved looking out onto the water. Cons: Communication was difficult because it felt like I never had a point of contact. Rent your own chairs and dance floor, the ones we used from the Portofino were showing lots of wear. Our guests staying in the hotel had a couple problems that they worked out with the hotel on their own. I also had my own problems with my room. The first room I was in had a broken door lock they moved me to a smaller room and then back to a larger room that was still slightly disappointing compared to the first one . Overall: The Portofino has great views of the water and we wanted a venue that had hotel options nearby so guests didn't have to drive after the wedding. The catering department did a good job but I think the hotel itself could improve it's operations. I would recommend using a wedding planner if you choose this location for a reception venue. But on the day of the wedding I found out that the coordinator was not there (when she told us that she would be there) and the important details were not given to the people taking over. The table numbers and seats were all mixed up. (Thanks to my friends who literally moved the tables and chairs to correct it)We had to move everything out from the changing room during the reception, when they first told us that we can keep our stuff inside and move it our later, but suddenly told us that we had to clean it up. We had said that we would have an open bar all night but it was being cutoff in two hours. After when we realized that the bar had closed, we told the banquet staff and they were kind enough to reopen it, and did a great job making sure that our guest were happy.Everything turned out great with the help of the banquet staff and my friends running around. Nancy Mayer(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 11-10-2015 I have to agree with an earlier review I read. The Portofino is an absolutely wonderful place to get married. We got married about a month ago and the wedding and reception was fantastic. Lisa Fleming, our Wedding Sales Specialist, was wonderful to deal with, very responsive to our calls and meet all our needs. The catering staff was spectacular. Our guests are still raving about the food and service. Paco is the best bartender ever! Arturo, the banquet coordinator, was attentive and made sure my groom and I had everything we needed. On the negative side, the Wedding Block coordinator and the Reservations staff were a nightmare to deal with. We did get good rates but nothing went smoothly and we had to repeatedly correct their errors. Our guests were told there were no rooms when we did have rooms available, they were quoted wrong rates, they made errors in room types, it took several times back and forth to get contracts correct, etc., etc. I could go on for days. Eric Therrien(groom)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 12-09-2014 I'll start with the positives of the Portofino. I grew up in Redondo Beach, so it was nice to pick a venue close by so all my local friends and family could attend, plus it is a beautiful setting right on the water. My friend got married there a year ago and it was great. Our wedding went off without and we had an absolute blast. Our wedding coordinator Lisa was very nice and quite helpful as well. The food is excellent, although the staff did remove a few plates before the guests were finished. And you can't realty beat the price at any other reputable hotel venue that we checked out in Huntington Beach and San Diego. \r\rThe wedding took place on the grassy knoll just south of the hotel. It would have been nice to know that they replaced the grass with turf, just two weeks before the wedding. I missed having real grass, but it did look very nice compared to the warn down grass. And thankfully they got a new archway to replace the old beat up one that would have certainly blown over.\r\rNow the bad, the hotel itself. DO NOT get block rooms at the hotel. We found cheaper rates online on a regular basis. We had issues booking rooms from day one. Incorrect dates, wrong room types (2 queens instead of 1 king, and vice versa), etc. We got a different answer for multiple questions every time we called. Also, the air conditioning unit is very week, as our room would not drop below 77 as 5 men were trying to get ready in the small room that should have been a large suite.\r\rTo top it off, my bride was thankfully upgraded to a suite the night before the wedding, as they overbooked the 2 queen room we requested. Her room was great, lovely view, very big. Unfortunately, on our wedding day/night, they moved us to smaller room with a shared balcony with a divider and no bath tub or living room. She demanded to be moved, we ended up a floor lower, in a regular room with ocean view, but with a bath tub. One would think the hotel would go out of its way to provide the wedding couple spending $20K in one evening the best possible room they offer. NOT THE CASE. We received weak and rude explanations for the unsatisfactory room.\r\rTo top it off, a guest lost a cell phone and received more rude service. My wife also left a backpack, and we were told the lost & found was online and they would not answer questions over the phone. In fact, you just fill out a form and HOPE they get back to you. We drove by later that day and apparently the 2 people who have a key to lost & found were not on the premises. Wonderful. I called again the following day as they had not contacted us, thankfully the lady with the key was there, and we got the backpack back. \r\rOverall, the wedding portion of it all was spectacular! I do recommend getting married there. Just have your guests stay at the Crown Plaza just down the road. ;-) Reviewed on 15-09-2014
Sanaz Norouzi(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 03-08-2013 My husband and I were recently married at the Portofino hotel and couldnât have had a better venue and support from the catering department. The Portofino Hotel is a beautiful location that has lovely views of the Redondo Beach Pier, the marina, and also within the lobby of the hotel as well. The catering manager of the Portofino that we dealt with was Lisa Fleming. She did a marvelous job at helping us plan our event. The communication between Lisa went very well as she helped us with the planning of the event and also helped give us a guideline/general timeline from which we could customize our event as well. Emails and phone calls were always answered back promptly and there was never any gray area of lack of clarity between us. In addition to contacting and coordinating with our other vendors, she helped to make sure that the ceremony and the reception went on time and smoothly. I would give high recommendations for anyone I know to have their wedding there as well, as the whole process from start to finish was as painless and as smooth as could be, and that was in a large part due to the staff of the Portofino and Lisa. Regan Daigneault(bride)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 20-07-2013 The Portofino is a beautiful boutique hotel on the Marina in Redondo Beach. Of course, I had an amazing wedding day but I would not say the hotel contributed much to that. Their customer service in their catering department left much to be desired. They NEVER took accountability for their actions by simply apologizing when they made a mistake or I wasn't happy with something and always had an excuse for why they were not in the wrong. It was excuse after excuse. It took them forever to respond to my questions and sometimes I wouldn't receive a response from them at all. They told me certain things would happen on my wedding day that did not happen. The allowed someone to set up a meeting with me and then when that person didn't show up for the meeting, I was told \"he's just an intern and shouldn't be setting up meetings\" and then made to feel like I was in the wrong for wanting to meet with someone that day. \rI don't consider myself much of a bridezilla by any means but I do expect excellent service when I'm paying an arm and a leg to get married at your establishment. Throughout the whole experience, I continued to be amazed that a hotel of this caliber did not have a top of the line wedding coordinator/department. They failed to be upfront about things initially and I would find out about stuff at much later meetings, after I had already paid our deposit. And again, no simple apology but instead I was met with more excuses. I think the hotel just rides on its location so they don't care about their customer service as much. It will be interesting to see what happens to them when Shade opens up just down the street, another boutique hotel. Hopefully this will make them step up their game. There wasn't really one major thing they did but instead a number of smaller issues that alone would not have bothered me so much but as a whole, made the whole experience rather frustrating. I found myself constantly telling friends and family what \"went wrong\" this time. As I said before, in the end everything was beautiful and I had a perfect wedding day but just be aware of who you are dealing with going into it. Reviewed on 09-08-2013

We had our wedding on a Sunday which was much cheaper than a Friday or Saturday. The food tasting was great and they let us pick 3 proteins if we made all the plates have the same starch. Nice trade off if you ask me. The ballroom was set up and ready for us at 9am and my wedding didnât start until 5pm. They offer changing rooms for the bride and a free night stay for the bride and groom the night of the wedding. The only issue I had was with their billing. MrsLZ C(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 27-08-2011 The Portofinoâs a beautiful place to get married! A hidden gem in the heart of the South Bay. Our on-site coordinator was Shelley and she was great to work with; very responsive and professional through the entire process. We got married at their wedding garden along the peninsula (small boats do go by, and cute sea lions on the rocks). Our cocktail hour was held in the same area. The hotel staff moved chairs out and put in cocktail tables; all done pretty seamlessly. It turned out to be a really pretty location for cocktail hour. Note, there's a terrace that is along the water (south side of the building) you might be able to use only if there isn't another wedding reception going on in the Pacific Ballroom. Our reception was held in the Bayside Ballroom - amazing views of the water, Redondo pier and the PV Peninsula.\r\rOn wedding day, the hotel provided the Harbor Room, with room keys for my bridesmaids and I to use (9a to-7p). It was wonderful! They set up a large round table and had high tables set up with high chairs for hair and makeup. And they provided garment racks for us to hang the wedding dress and bridesmaids dresses. The room also has a lot of natural light which helps the hair/makeup team and has a restroom (no shower) so a very functional space. \r\rWe did most of the bridal party pictures in hidden garden areas along the hotel. Family wedding photos were taken in the \"Living Room\" through the lobby. It's very elegant and takes great photos. The only thing was we had to wait to use it. There was another couple getting married that day (they married off-site and had their reception in the Pacific Ballroom) and they were using the room after they were back from their ceremony. We knew there would be another couple getting married that day, but we were assured the \"Brides\" would not see each other. At the end of the day, it was not an issue. Funny thing, there was actually a 3rd bride who was at the hotel waiting for the area for photos (she didnât get married there; they were at a venue nearby). From what the hotel told us, the hotel is popular for brides to stay, prep, and take photos. So don't be surprised if you run into more than 1 other bride there. It will still be your special day no matter how many other brides you run into.\r\rFor the food, we tasted the selections before making them at a showcase the hotel offered. The hotel invites couples getting married there to come and taste the different dishes and meet vendors. Great resources so definitely sign up and go! Everyone at our wedding loved the food, we received a ton of compliments. During dinner and with the speeches our guests in the back couldnât hear very well because of the music in the other ballroom. The hotel did make a point to tell us it would not be a problem with sound, but turns out it was, but only during the speeches. So make sure your DJ or sound people do an extra check on that. Not a huge issue for us; by the time dancing came around, the sound was fine and everyone was dancing and having a great time. \r\rOur wedding was incredible and The Portofino really did a great job in having it come out perfectly for us. Iâm sure it also depends on who you have working with you. We were lucky in that all our vendors were great, including our day of coordinator who was also on top of everything for us.
