The Salem Herbfarm is a characterful wedding venue located in Salem, CT. This enchanting New England getaway is a wondrous location for couples seeking privacy, serenity and scenic views on their special day. Valuing the quiet moments spent with loved ones, the staff of this location hopes to help create memories you will look back on with a tender smile. Owned and operated by couple Anne and Joe Duncan, the Salem Herbfarm has been a family business stretching back generations. Anne’s great uncle, a man by the name of Fred Washburn, bought the farm in 1915. The property has gone through many practical iterations since then, most notably when Anne and Joe refurbished the property to serve as a retail plant nursery in 1997. This venture lasted up until 2015 when the couple decided to take advantage of their storied space on the farm and create a wedding venue rich in authentic rustic charm. They renovated the original barn structure, dating all the way back to the late 1800s, to include a larger capacity for guests. Elements of the original building can still be seen in this updated version. Their classic timber frames featuring American chestnut posts and exposed beams remain intact. Surrounding the barn are the long stretches of lawn and manicured gardens. The property’s white arch can serve as a striking backdrop for your outdoor ceremony. Inside the barn, where you may host your reception, you’ll find many accouterments dating back to the building’s build date. Items of note include old tools, license plates, dog tags, and lanterns that serve the vintage feel of this venue. The barn itself has an ample seating capacity of up to 140 guests. The staff at the farm has generously compiled a list of their most trusted vendors for couples seeking a perfect match for their special day. However, should you already have your preferred vendors picked out, this team is more than happy to accommodate them. The rental of this venue comes complete with access to tables and chairs, as well as parking on-site for up to 65 vehicles. Book the Salem Herbfafm!!! You will not regret it. Elizabeth and the team are extraordinary going above and beyond anything I could have imagined. The venue itself is breathtaking. It is even more gorgeous in person so I highly recommend taking a tour. Every single guest commented on how beautiful the grounds are. Also, everything is included. There are fire pits and fountains, handmade farm tables and large barrels. Unlike some venues we researched, everything was included in the one price. It was difficult deciding on our ceremony location becsuse they created and landscaped 3 gorgeous choices. Seriously it was a dream to be in these gardens.The real wow factor is Elizabeth. She is responsive, communicative, generous and very talented with floral design. There was a slight dress issue and she immediately got involved offering solutions. I had a long list of decor tasks and a specific vision. She assured me everything will get done to my liking. The final decor and set up blew me away. She nailed every single thing. I cannot recommend Elizabeth enough. She was born to do this!

This place is magnificent! From the moment we stepped onto the property we knew that it would be the perfect place for us to get married. The gardens are stunning, there are multiple options of places to hold a ceremony or reception, and the handmade touches around the grounds were beautiful.On our wedding day we got the experience the joy of seeing our guests walking around the venue, taking pictures of the property, and in the gardens. The fire-pits and outdoor lighting was perfect once the sun went down, and allowed us (and our guests) to experience a magical scene. Since our wedding day, we have had family and friends reach out to both of us and tell us numerous times that this was the best wedding that they had ever been to, specifically because it was the most beautiful venue they have been to. We both have to agree with our guests’ assessments. We had our ceremony by the fountain, cocktail hour under the tent, dinner, first dances, and cake cutting in the greenhouse and then the late night dancing and desserts in the barn. The whole venue was used, which we thought made the day so much more special. Our guests were able to be anywhere on the property that made them comfortable. There were always quiet spaces and chairs around the fire pits for those who were not dancing, or just people needed a break from the music. We also had several lawn games set up in the garden area as an option for our guests to enjoy throughout the evening.We will admit that the one thing we were nervous about was that a noise ordinance required of all late night music to be in the barn. I (husband) was not too thrilled with this news when I first found out about it because we had originally wanted to be outdoors the entire evening, but the more my wife and I thought about it and talked with the venue coordinator, Elizabeth, the more we could see the benefits of this change. After the wedding, we both agreed having this change made the whole wedding ebb and flow so nicely, gave more opportunities to our guests, and also was perfect for a summer evening. In addition to the property being absolutely amazing, the people who you meet within your experience there are equally as wonderful. Elizabeth is so unbelievably warm, friendly, caring, professional, and genuine. We felt a strong connection with Elizabeth from the first walk through, she was open and honest with us as we were with her, and it was evident that she truly wanted the day to be perfect for us. She was open to all questions, all ideas, and worked with us to make this day so so special. We walked through the venue multiple times throughout our wedding planning process, and Elizabeth was so accommodating to us throughout the year leading up to our big day. We enjoyed working with her as our wedding coordinator, however, we know that working with her in any capacity would be a fantastic experience. Joe was also wonderful, and built many of the pieces of both furniture and garden art that you will see on the property. It was some of these truly special personal touches that made us want to be married here. Again, we cannot say enough about how wonderful EVERY aspect of the Salem Herb Farm was. We encourage anyone to go visit and see how truly beautiful it is.Salem Herb Farm Family, thank you for being there for our needs and wants, as well as being awesome people! I could go on for days about the details and how beautiful it is..alot of hard work definitely goes into keeping it that beautiful, but what stands out the most are the owners. Joe and his daughter are some of the most welcoming and wonderful people I have ever met. They put endless hard work into making sure every detail is perfect. They are both very responsive, professional and just amazing. They made every process feel stress free. I'll never forget the first time I met Joe and we saw his herb farm. The Salem Herbfarm is a truly spectacular venue. We honestly cannot believe how lucky we are to have found it. We got married in June and it was STUNNING with so many gorgeous flowers everywhere—the landscaping is amazing and it was just truly an incredibly beautiful place to get married. What might be less obvious from photos is that the space is also extremely open, which makes for a really magical vibe for guests to mingle during the cocktail hour and reception of a wedding. There are so many lovely spaces for guests to spread out and enjoy each other and the beautiful venue and SO many of our guests were raving to us about how perfect the space was as a result. We did the reception in the outdoor greenhouse space and loved it so much; it was just perfect for dinner and dancing on a warm summer night!!! We also loved working with Joe, Elizabeth, and Hannah. They were all so kind and warm and relaxed/accommodating, and also super professional and responsive. They always answered questions right away and had clear and reliable communication. And on the day of the wedding they were so helpful in working with our people (planner, vendors, family, etc) to make our vision come to life!!! We honestly couldn’t recommend this venue more strongly and think it was a truly incredible find/deal. We will forever be grateful to the Salem Herbfarm!!! Thank you!!!

It's such a beautiful venue-so spacious, has indoor and outdoor options such as a barn and a beautiful greenhouse pavilion, and the grounds are covered in beautiful flowers. All my guests couldn't stop talking about how incredible it looked. The best part is the people though- Joe, Elizabeth, and Hannah are absolutely incredible to work with and make you feel like family. Just a thank you isn't enough, they truly go above and beyond. If you're from the CT area, get married here! You will not be disappointed.

My husband and I had a phenomenal wedding at The Salem Herbfarm! The venue was incredibly beautiful, and there were both indoor and outdoor options for the ceremony and reception. The landscaping was absolutely stunning. Between the flower gardens, lighting, fire pits, and rustic decor, the atmosphere was amazing, both during the day and when the sun set. Joe and Elizabeth were super flexible and responsive throughout the entire planning process. It was the perfect venue, and our guests had a wonderful time. If you’re looking for a gorgeous and charming venue, I would 100% recommend The Salem Herbfarm!

We feel so lucky to have found the Salem Herbfarm for our wedding venue! We loved the venue as soon as we saw it. It is a new venue but the owners made us feel comfortable with their vision. We were fortunate to have wonderful weather and the flowers were in full bloom. There were multiple spaces for people to hang out during the event, including high top tables and a fire pit. Our guests loved taking pictures among the multiple gardens, pergolas, etc. The reception was under the converted greenhouse. Our guests raved about the venue and even the caterers were asking how we got lucky enough to find this place. It was exactly as we pictured. The Herbfarm met our desire for a beautiful outdoor wedding venue that didn’t feel stuffy or pretentious.

This venue was the talk of our wedding! Because the Salem Herbfarm is still a fairly new venue, everyone was asking us how we found this hidden gem. We were able to connect the venue to all of our great vendors, so we're hopeful they continue to have great weddings in the future. It rained late in the evening, but with the flexibility of the venue, we barely noticed. Even in the year we had our venue booked, Joe continued to make enhancements to the property for the better. There are so many good options for ceremony/cocktail hour/dinner, so you can create exactly the event you want. I will say, it did get a little muggy in June with the a storm brewing. It would be great if one day they can install AC in the barn, but I know from tours we took on cooler days, the barn is usually very comfortable.Thank you so much, Joe!

Absolutely beautiful venue. The photos do not do it justice. Joe meticulously takes care of the lawn/gardens and is always improving the area. It is especially beautiful at night with the fire pit lit and the various string lights on. There is a great ceremony area outside with a arch with vines crawling along it and behind the arch is a pond with a fountain. The barn is beautiful on its own with many authentic historic pieces. I cannot put into words how much I would recommend this place for any couple looking for a peaceful, natural, rustic wedding. You can really dress the place up if you want or it is beautiful on its own without a bunch of decorations.

Absolutely beautiful venue. The photos do not do it justice. Joe meticulously takes care of the lawn/gardens and is always improving the area. It is especially beautiful at night with the fire pit lit and the various string lights on. There is a great ceremony area outside with a arch with vines crawling along it and behind the arch is a pond with a fountain. The barn is beautiful on its own with many authentic historic pieces. I cannot put into words how much I would recommend this place for any couple looking for a peaceful, natural, rustic wedding. You can really dress the place up if you want or it is beautiful on its own without a bunch of decorations.

The venue is stunning! Even with COVID-19, having a large outdoor space allowed my husband and I to have the wedding of our dreams. With all the constant changes, the owners were very helpful and understanding. I would highly recommend checking this venue out!

In 2016 - before the recent improvements - my eldest daughter and her husband got married at \"the Herbfarm\" - and my wife (not my daughter's mom) and I had our wedding reception there. The Herbfarm was a great venue then and it's spectacular now. More, clients and guests won't find more diligent, attentive, practical and honest hosts than the owners, Anne and Joe Duncan.
