The Thaxton is more of an experience for your guests than a wedding venue. It is so charming and really is a hidden gem in the STL area. All of our guests are still raving over how much they loved the venue. It is great for large or small parties, there are several floors which made it comfortable for our 100 guests. Kim and Maddog were so helpful in the planning process and made sure the day went smoothly and my husband and I were completely taken care of. They even helped with setup and cleanup. I can’t say enough nice things about The Thaxton. This place is just B E A UTIFUL, from head to toe. All art deco and original art. We had our wedding and reception in the building. The ceremony was small, on their balcony/ mezzanine level overlooking the grand hall. And the reception followed on three floors complete with two bars. If you want a seamless, low stress timeline, this is the place. The owner, Kim, and the “groundskeeper,” Mad Dog, have such an attention to detail. They will help you with things you didn’t even take into consideration. And they will guide you every step of the way. 10 out of 10 would recommend to anyone! Reviewed on 17-11-2023

With all the stress of putting together a wedding, it’s such a relief when you know the biggest part of your biggest day is in the hands of an absolute professional. If Kim comes off a little too calm, it’s because you’re panicking about something she’s handled a thousand times before. At no point did we feel uncertain, abandoned, or taken advantage of. After seeing pictures of the venue online, I knew this was the place for our event. It is simply gorgeous. Our original date was postponed multiple times due to the pandemic. Each time, Kim approached us with compassion and understanding. We will never be able to thank her enough for the kindness she showed to us over the course of the last year. I heard awful stories from friends who were in similar situations and felt even more grateful that we chose The Thaxton as our venue. Perhaps my favorite part of The Thaxton (other than Kim) is that it is so unique. Other locations required us to bring in countless decorations and pieces of entertainment. The Thaxton is so beautiful and unique that it required very little decor. We honestly could have gotten away with bringing nothing. Every single picture that was taken by someone, even on their cell phones, looks like a work of art.The drinks at our party were amazing. A month later, people are still commenting on how wonderful the venue was for the event. Multiple people noted that it was the best wedding they had ever been to. The price was extremely affordable. We just had our wedding last night. Peter, Kim and Mad Dog run an unbelievable venue. Even without their hospitality the venue itself is elegant, unique and brings a completely different atmosphere than typical weddings. But what makes this absolutely stunning and gorgeous location for a wedding even better is are the staff that make the evening an easy, stress free moment for the Bride and Groom. Peter is wonderful leading up to the event, providing ideas and insights to what works well at the Thaxton. Anything from music to perfect picture locations. Once your evening is underway both Peter and Mad Dog make sure you and you Bride/Groom want for nothing. Mad Dog will usher you through the night with a calm and collective attitude. You will be able to enjoy yourself and not have to worry about anything. If there Is ANY downside to the venue, it is that you'll be to busy taking pictures with your bride/groom and not downstairs in the lounge after the reception dinner. The lounge is only something I can describe as a scene out of a Tim Burton's Batman Movie, and is easily my most favorite part of the venue. If I could only make one recommendation is that you start your event early, and end it late. It is truly a once in a lifetime experience if you are considering this location for a wedding venue. Amazing. Absolutely stunning building. Absolutely incredible staff. We had our rehearsal dinner here and we could not have had a better experience, it was perfect. From the moment I saw the space, my jaw dropped, they did an incredible job.\r \rI met with Peter and from the beginning he was kind, accommodating and interesting ;-). He met with the moms and I first and then again with Kevin and I months later. He made it affordable for us to have my dream rehearsal dinner! \rThe food was soooo good and all made upstairs, the croissants were fresh made and there is such a beautiful pride about where they get their ingredients and how it is made. Props to the Chef. \rPeter let us come early to the event to shoot some photos. The Lemon Drop (that I was hand delivered during our little photo session) was the best I've ever had! \rAfter the event, we had forgotten our parents' gifts and Peter was efficient the next day to come downtown and make sure we had the gifts for our wedding day.\rWe had an open bar, then dinner upstairs an then open bar again until 9:30 when the rest of our guests and public guests were then invited. Our guests came earlier than9:30 (they were excited!) and Peter was kind enough to let a few of them in before the open bar was over.\rWe were lucky enough to have Miss Jubilee and her band sing live... OMG, it was incredible! Everyone was having a blast dancing and laughing. It was so great.\r\rI cannot say enough about this gorgeous venue, or the beautiful hearts of Peter and his partner Kim. When it was time for me to go home and attempt sleep, I was SOOO sad to leave, (though a lot of our guests stayed.) We had a lovely heart to heart with Peter and his kindness, again reminded me of why we will DEFINITELY be having an event here in the future. We will have to come up with some excuse, because it was well worth it!\r\rIf you are thinking of this venue. Do it. Absolutely do it. Thank you Peter and Kim! Weeeee! Photos to come! Anonymous (bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 02-08-2015 The Thaxton was everything I hoped it would be as a wedding venue for our unique wedding reception. We had very specifics requirements (halal caterer, accommodating a tight budget, needing to finalize details only a few months and weeks ahead of time) and Peter and the Thaxton staff were incredible. We only had the wedding reception there (instead of both ceremony and reception) as we needed to do a quick and intimate ceremony upon my husband's arrival to Connecticut where we live - we booked the venue for the reception at the Thaxton a year in advance in order to have this wonderful place to celebrate with our family. St. Louis is my hometown and I wanted the event to celebrate the history and culture of the city. The venue is gorgeous - great lighting, vintage Art Deco feel and just the right setting for a group of 50-60 people attending our event. We had the meet and greet, dinner, and dancing over a four hour period from 7-11 p.m. As the Thaxton is one of the few venues to allow for outside caterers, we were able to work with The Vine, a Mediterranean/Lebanese restaurant off of Grand Ave that offers halal menu choices. The Thaxton was able to provide servers for the buffet. Peter even accommodated for the fact that we chose not to have alcohol served and opted instead for non-traditional drink items. The tableware, the linens, the recommendations for the florist and a few other featured vendors were exactly the right choices for our event.\r\rTo sum up, with a few adjectives - accommodating, elegant, memorable, Art Deco, and intimate. I can’t say one negative thing about this venue! My husband and I had our wedding reception here a few months ago and all of our guests are still buzzing about how much fun they had. We both knew the first time we met with Peter and took a tour of the Thaxton, that this was the place for our special day. The building is both unique and timeless and the Art Deco décor is absolutely beautiful and glamorous. We both wanted something different than the typical ballroom reception, and this was definitely the right choice! We still included all the typical traditions (cake cutting, garter/ bouquet tosses/ first dances) yet our wedding felt like one big party instead of a stuffy affair.\r\rWe worked with Peter who was both incredibly knowledgeable about the entire wedding process and accommodating to all of our special requests . He was always quick to respond and his years of event planning really helped us with any of our questions, especially concerning the timeline of the evening. He also worked well and communicated with all of our vendors and everything came together perfectly! We truly felt like we were working with a friend that really cared about making our big day perfect.\r\rThe night of our wedding went off without a hitch. Peter even made sure that my husband and I took some alone time to be able to sit back, relax, and take in our special day. Both he and Terry (Mad Dog) were very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the evening (and that our drinks were never empty). Terry was always there and ready to take us up and down the elevator to the various parties that seemed to be happening on every level of the building. He also made sure to accompany my grandparents and other elderly guest, so they did not have to use the stairs at all.\r\rWe loved the DJ that Peter recommended (DJ Uptown). The bottom floor was a HUGE dance party all night long and the bartenders kept the drinks flowing. Still a few months later, I am still getting complements from our guests that “our wedding was the most fun I have ever had at a reception”.\r\rA BIG thanks to Peter and Kim and all of the other staff at the Thaxton for throwing us the wedding of our dreams, we will remember it always! \r Reviewed on 08-07-2014

The staff of this beautiful Art Deco style building was very welcoming and helpful. This venue books up fast so plan ahead. Most of the things I needed to take care of for the big day was handled in-house at the Thaxton. Such as linens, catering but most of all the elegance of the venue itself allowed me to scale back on decorating, the venue as it stands took away the need for most of that. The other details like catering werr handled by Peter. He took charge in taking the ideas and vendors I provided and helping sculpt it into a perfect day. The small staff of The Thaxton took all the work of the day on and let my family and myself relax and enjoy instead of working and orchestrating the day. The house caterer, Chef Pierre, provided and choice menu for our meat eating as well as vegetarian guests. I appreciated the fact that such a grand meal can have such a small footprint, the food was locally grown and sourced. Some even on the roof of The Thaxton itself. My wife and I got married here last month and we could not be more pleased. Peter and Kim were more than just there, they went above and beyond in every facet to ensure that we were happy, enjoyed everything, and had nothing to worry about. They made it so easy and hassle free for us; because we had a short window from the time in December when we found the Thaxton, until we were happily married on April 19th. They were able to take our vision mainly though our emails, voicemails, and phone conversations (because we are both very busy) and created a ceremony, dinner, and reception that blew our expectations out of the water. Mad Dog was one of the most helpful MC's, as Peter had told us it will fly by and it did. And again, my compliments to the chef! For most the wedding day becomes the most prolific one because it is the start of your life together as a couple. My wife Christina and I were engaged in Sicily October 10th, 2013 and married at Dromoland Castle in Ireland October 24th, 2013. After an amazing wedding and traveling across Europe together we were excited to tell our families of the fairy tale experience. The immediate challenge was in how we could top such an amazing journey here in the United States and create a memory for our friends and family that would last forever. Through recommendations of our friends in the catering industry (Tornatore's Catering in St. Louis) we were told to visit the Thaxton. Once the door opened there was no question that the unique character reminiscent of the 1920’s speakeasy had been recreated to perfection. After a conversation with the owners it was our last and only visit for a reception space. The space had plenty of room and 3 distinct spaces to accommodate all of our guests rather it be on the dance floor sipping moonshine , multiple bar areas to enjoy cocktails and dinner, or to enjoy quieter spaces for our families to relax with a nice glass of wine. The space speaks for itself, but the owners and staff are what separate this from a reception space to an experience. The attention to detail and the professionalism by the owners from the first meeting to our special day was outstanding. It allowed us to enjoy the process rather than to be overwhelmed with managing every detail. To see people be as enthusiastic and helpful in making our “Great Gatsby” themed party a reality truly gave our wedding the compliment it deserved. Anytime I hear from a guest at our reception the first thing they say is that it was the most amazing reception they have ever attended and that the venue and staff made it such a unique experience that they hope we find other occasions to celebrate just to go back to the Thaxton! The owners connection to those that can make anything possible for a reception or party and the connection we made with the staff at the Thaxton (Kim, Peter and Mad Dog) are why my wife and I consider everyone there friends of ours for life!! It kind of feels like you aren't just hiring a venue, but a wedding planner too. \r\rGetting married at The Thaxton was the best decision we ever could have made, and we will always be grateful to the team there for making our day perfect. AAzmy (bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 07-09-2014 Choosing to have our wedding at the Thaxton was probably the best decision we made about our wedding. Throughout the process we mostly worked with Peter. He was able to give us wonderful suggestions when needed, but also worked with us to make all of our ideas work in the space. The other staff that helped during the wedding were wonderful. Both my husband and I were already overwhelmed with everything and couldn't always keep track of what needed to happen, but the staff always took charge and made sure everything was as it was suppose to be. No worries for us! \r\rThe building itself is beautiful and made for the perfect setting for a unique wedding. Having the ability of have the ceremony, cocktails, dinner, and dancing all in one building AND make it all flow seamlessly was amazing! Because of the beauty of the building we were able to save A LOT on decor. We decided to forgo costly floral arrangements and stick with candles. It looked amazing! \r\rFor the cost of the Thaxton you get not only an interested building but fabulous decor, a staff that cares about your event, an \"almost\" wedding planner (Peter), and an experience that your guests will never forget! Candace Aites(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 31-08-2013 Now that I am a Mrs. the advice I would like to give other Brides and Grooms is… remember what YOU want when it comes to your wedding day. If you want a party with incredible food, music, atmosphere and GREAT drinks… book The Thaxton! If you are creative and want to make your own centerpieces, décor, photo booth or even if you’d rather pay someone to do everything for you the Thaxton is totally flexible! We chose the Thaxton for its 1 of a kind charm! We actually live in Chicago, IL and my husband grew up in St. Louis, MO. Since we started dating we knew that we wanted to get married in STL. We had our eyes set on a few fabulous places but the second we walked into the Thaxton we knew that was the place! \r\rPeter Venzia is a true professional; he helped us plan our event and met with us twice before we even had our rehearsal. Very responsive to email and phone calls, once you get closer to your big day. Our rehearsal went so smoothly, we were actually disorganized but Peter knew how to get us on track! We made our own wine bottle hurricanes and Peter had them setup for us ahead of time. We dropped all of our wedding materials off the day before our Wedding. Terry was also an integral part of our day, known as “Mad Dog” such a wonderful character he helped us keep the flow of our reception on cue. The Thaxton staff is incredible; they paid attention to every detail and made sure that not only our guests we WOW’ed but that we were having a great time. They had two choices of “moonshine” which was fruit infused alcohol that our guests raved over. The bar manager and staff were quick to help with any spills/issues. \r\rWe literally just had to show up, get married and party all night. The DJ whose name was Jerry Hill was fabulous! We gave him an idea of the genre of music that most of our guests would like and he ran with it! If you made a face at him and he saw that you didn’t like the song… boom he would change it to something else! That’s a phenomenal DJ!!! At the end of our special night every guest complimented us on our choice of venue, caterer (Hendri’s venue referred) and DJ (venue referred)… and said that they had an AWESOME TIME! We were sad the evening ended but ecstatic that we paid for the extra hour! Reviewed on 16-09-2013

From the beginning, Peter was very accommodating and helpful. He responded promptly to emails and helped guide us every step of the way. We used many of the recommended vendors, which were great. The venue itself is gorgeous, and the location downtown is very convenient. We had many out of town guests who took the metro in from the airport and stayed in a nearby hotel - no car rental needed. \r\rThe actual event was wonderful. Peter, Mad Dog, and the rest of the staff made sure everything flowed very smoothly, and with style. The unique space and lighting of the Thaxton provided for some beautiful pictures. We had around 100 guests, which gave us plenty of room while still maintaining an intimate vibe. If you are like us and looking for a more intimate venue with character to boot this is your place! The Thaxton was an absolute dream; as you walk into the building you are greeted with the most gorgeous art deco murals gold crown molding, and a spiral stair case leading to the upstairs mezzanine. After dinner, you take an old time elevator to the speak easy lounge in the basement. The speak easy was just what the party needed to get started! Our guests are still talking about what an amazing experience they had; we had 110 people for a sit down dinner. Peter, Mad Dog, Kim and the entire Thaxton staff was such a pleasure to work with. During the planning processes they were there by our sides with any questions or concerns we had, and they made our day run so smoothly. My fiance, myself and all our guests had such a spectacular night I couldn't ever imagine having our reception anywhere else. We also used Bridget from \"flowers to the People\" florist, I HIGHLY recommend Bridget! She made The Thaxton look even more romantic and special than it already is, and she was a pleasure to work with as well! Russo's did our catering-Yumm! My only regret was that the night was all too short! The entire Thaxton staff knew and were instrumental in pulling off the secret ceremony. Terry \"Mad-Dog\" and Peter were great!!! Peter made sure the party was tailored to our specific wants and needs. We had both bars open and they set up a dedicated champagne bar on the main floor which was their idea! The moonshine was delicious. They set up the valet service so we didn't have to worry about that. We had a photo booth set up at the bottom of the stairs. The space was great for our 120 people party. \r\rWe really wanted to have a great party instead of a traditional wedding reception, and I don't think we could have had a more perfect night. We also live in Chicago, so planning the event from out of town added another element of difficulty in pulling off the surprise and the party. But the Thaxton was great in communicating with us and accommodating our vendors. I saved a lot on flowers because the building has so much art already. I had always dreamed of having an Art Deco themed wedding, and after spending hours upon hours searching desperately for a venue that would satisfy my ideas, I knew this was the place in an instant. This place is the ultimate in beauty and class, and offers nothing less than stellar service from their staff. From beginning to end, Peter was more than accommodating, always calm and knowing exactly how to organize the wedding. Chad R(groom)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 21-04-2012 We have nothing but great things to say about The Thaxton. The Thaxton staff, Peter, Terry, and Kim, were proactive and responsive during the planning, rehearsal, and the wedding. They are very flexible and will work with your ministerial, florist, catering, and setup choices. They offer a recommended list on their website that helps you make the right choices. Peter promptly responds to emails and his advice was very helpful \r\rPeter went above and beyond by accommodating our special request for Grayson's Cabernet Sauvignon wine. Terry was there to open The Thaxton for our florist, Bridget Weible with Flowers to the People (http://www.flowerstothepeople.biz), who we found on The Thaxton's recommended list and also did an awesome job. Our photographer, Mandy Evans (http://www.mandyevansphoto.com), was also allowed to take pre-wedding pictures of The Thaxton. \r\rThe physical layout of The Thaxton is perfect for smaller venues of less than 120 guests. The layout allows an efficient use of space. The downstairs bar is open approximately an hour before the wedding so early guests (and the groom) can enjoy a pre-wedding drink. The ceremony is conducted on the main floor, which comfortably held our 80+ guests. \r\rTerry was on cue with all of our requested wedding songs, and Peter ensured the ceremony progressed as planned. The Thaxton allowed our own unique decorations, candles, and setup. The wedding went as planned. The speaker system is excellent and supports any device with an audio jack. Peter and Terry prefer Apple products, and an iPod works great.\r\rAfter the ceremony, guests move to the downstairs bar area for drinks and appetizers while the Thaxton staff and your caterers prepare the main floor for your toasts, dinner, and dessert. The staff completed this with speed and efficiency. In just one hour, the upstairs looked completely different than our wedding ceremony. \r\rFor dinner, the main floor is bigger than it looks. There was plenty of room for our guests, the tables were large and no one was cramped. For dinner, we chose Vito's (http://vitosstl.info/) who provided equally excellent service. Vito's was one of several caterers recommended by the Thaxton, and we were equally happy with his service. One of the several reasons we chose The Thaxton was our distaste for \"wedding food,\" which is basically overpriced hotel food. Vito's owns an excellent Italian restaurant, and the catered food was just as excellent as the choices on his restaurant menu. Vito's and The Thaxton staff coordinated wine and drink service with our dinner. After dinner, there was plenty of room to cut the wedding cake, which was provided by Russo's (http://www.russosgourmet.com/index.php?p=24), and was perfect in view and taste.\r\rAfter dinner and dessert, we return to the downstairs bar for the first dances and party. The Thaxton's recommended DJ, NAME, was responsive and helpful. He played all requested songs and kept the party going. The Thaxton has a full service bar, so guests that want drinks not provided in the wedding package can purchase them individually. These options include top shelf bourbon, scotch, mixed drinks, and other liquors. The bar a la carte prices were reasonable and in line to what the drinks cost at downtown St. Louis bars, there was no gouging.\r\rAt the conclusion of the wedding party, Peter, Terry, and Kim were gracious enough to humbly thank us for the business and gave us a wedding gift.
