Nestled in the Hudson Valley, The Thayer Hotel at West Point in West Point, NY provides a sophisticated wedding venue. Overlooking the Hudson River, the magnificence of nature combined with the beauty of this antique hotel creates an upscale and enchanting setting for weddings. Near the United States Military Academy, tradition takes center stage at this gorgeous location.
The Thayer Hotel at West Point was opened in 1926 and has become an important historical location since then. International leaders, celebrities, and former US presidents have all visited here, making it a legendary location. A large hotel with 151 rooms for guests, grandeur and sophistication merge within this building’s walls. Without losing its historic charm, the amenities are modern and elegant for a wedding held in luxury. They have rooms for both small, intimate weddings and large affairs of up to 220 people. In addition to a number of spaces for hosting nuptials, they also have the Zulu Time Rooftop Bar and Lounge. The only rooftop bar between Albany and New York City, it provides for an evening of socializing after the reception ends.
Both the grounds and hotel at this location boast romance and enchantment. The property is covered in swaths of trees and vegetation with vistas of the flowing water and rolling hills. Inside the ballrooms, couples and their guests are greeted by rich, hardwood flooring and ornate molding. Windows with thin latticing coupled with the brick, exterior walls and archways create a castle-like feel.
The Thayer Hotel at West Point has a number of suggested vendors so couples can create a wedding day with uniform sophistication. Cuisine, both beautifully presented and plentiful, is provided through their full-service catering packages. Buffet, station, and plated options are both available as well as beverages, cocktail reception, and dessert. After parties with a bartender and sandwich platter are available on their rooftop bar. An exquisite hotel, accommodation is available for out of town guests. Roomy suites are available for the wedding party to get dressed in both comfort and privacy. With so many wonderful amenities, this is a venue for a wedding to remember.
The Thayer is THE PLACE to get married. The staff was completely wonderful from planning to days after. The venue is just beautiful, the service from every employee is top notch, and the packages are completely reasonable for everything you get. Special shout out to Krista, Marie, Gino, Chris and Aaron who were extremely kind and who went over and beyond to make our day everything we could ask for. Everyone, literally everyone, who came to our wedding have only good things to say. Zero drama. Zero issues. Literally from finding a magical crochet hook to accommodating a Filippino food station they made magic happen. These people made a profound impact that my (now) husband and I will never forget. Choose this place as your venue and do the room block- especially on game week- you will not regret it. Oh and be sure to ask for Marie Schuette as your planner and Aaron Faulk as your Maître D’. Together you're in the best of hands! Reviewed on 21-11-2023

If you're looking for an all-inclusive ceremony, reception, catering, and lodging location in a picturesque setting amid the Hudson River and mountains for your wedding, then the Thayer is the venue for you! My husband and I wanted to get married at an \"all-in-one\" venue so we could take some of the additional planning out of having to confirm multiple venues/vendors. The Thayer offers multiple rooms and locations, including outside, to give you options for where you want to have your ceremony and/or reception. Having the hotel rooms onsite was such a blessing, so no one had to drive -- they could just take the elevator upstairs and go to bed! Plus, having the U.S. Military Academy right next door offered our guests something to do in -between events; whether they paid for one of the 1.5 hour tours on post, grabbed a bite to eat at one of the quaint restaurants in downtown Highland Falls, or visited the Museum at the West Point Visitor's Center (which is free), there was something for everyone. Chef Chris did an amazing job on the food, and after our original coordinator, Marie, had to step away 2 weeks before our wedding, Chelsea Allen stepped in immediately, got up to speed, and took us through to the finish line. And, throughout the day and night, our maître d', Diana, made sure to check in with us to ensure everything was going smoothly. To this point, because things happen/get lost in the shuffle, when we realized the macarons we had for our dessert table weren't put out, we found Diana to let her know and, within 5 minutes, the situation was remedied. We are so happy with our wedding weekend and the service we received from the Thayer team, and highly recommend them as a venue! Reviewed on 20-11-2023

It has been a little over a week since my wedding and getting married at Thayer truly felt like a fairytale. The scenery was amazing, the hotel is beautiful, and the food and drinks were outstanding. Aaron, our maître d, was incredible- he ran the rehearsal, wrangled my bridal party, and made sure my husband and I were totally taken care of before, during, and after the wedding. Guests loved the rooftop bar after party and the staff were friendly and helpful. While I had the most wonderful day, there were a few snags that I think are important to point out for future couples looking to get married here:When you are assigned an event coordinator, if possible, request to have Chelsea Allen. My original coordinator, Marie, was initially responsive, but about 1 month prior to my wedding she stopped answering me despite multiple follow-ups and phone calls. 2 weeks before my wedding, I emailed to follow-up, and received an auto reply that she was out on emergency medical leave, with no coverage listed. I called the catering office and got a hold of Chelsea, who immediately assured me she would cover my event and took several hours to review the BEOs with me. Chelsea made me feel so comfortable and that my event was in good hands. Marie was originally supposed to be with me the morning of my wedding, but due to her leave, and the fact that Chelsea was not scheduled for the day of my wedding, there was no event coordinator presence the morning of my wedding, which was disappointing. Additionally, multiple requests that Marie told me could not be accommodated were handled instantly and with ease when brought up to Chelsea. To this day I have still not received an apology or email from Marie, even though we regularly were corresponding with one another for almost a year. I do wish I had Chelsea from the start as I think the planning process would have been smoother and less stressful. When I booked Thayer with the sales coordinator, I was told a perk of the property was that valet was included in the wedding package. A couple months later, after contracts were signed, I was told this was no longer true and that I had to pay a fee to cover valet for my guests. I paid this flat fee but heard from multiple guests that they were turned away from valet as the lot was full. To me this was completely unacceptable since I paid a decent amount of money to have valet, and it was a bit embarrassing to hear this feedback. We had gift bags for hotel guests, and my MOH overheard the front desk say they forgot to hand out some bags to those who checked in. The bags had invitations to a farewell breakfast on Sunday, so about 12-15 people did not get the invite (there were 6 bags left over and we made enough for all the rooms in our block).Overall, I loved my wedding at Thayer, and I really feel like it was a wonderful venue choice; however, I would highly recommend a wedding planner for those couples getting married here to assist with the planning process. Everyone from Krista in sales, who helped us choose the type of reception we wanted, to Hayle, our on-site coordinator who was the best show-runner we could have hoped for, to the bartenders at our celebrations and the valets (Thank you, Phil!) who made getting in and out seamless and easy.... They were all just as helpful, friendly, professional, and cheerful as could be. The rooms were immaculate and luxurious. Everywhere you looked, there was another gorgeous view! The bridal suite was perfect for not only getting ready, but for our pre-wedding ceremony of signing our wedding ketubah and was spacious enough to accommodate our entire family. We cannot say enough good things about Chef Chris and his entire staff! I am celiac, and he went above and beyond to ensure that we could have the champagne brunch reception of our dreams, right down to the gluten-free waffles. We don't have room here to express all the compliments that we got from our guests regarding the quality, presentation and variety of our celebration feast. Having a dedicated maître d' for our reception was indispensable and we didn’t even know that until Amy and her colleagues granted every request just as it was asked. Amy introduced herself to the principals in our wedding party, saw to their every need, and made sure that everything was exactly as we had wanted for our big day. She was so friendly and accommodating and made us feel like we were the number one priority for the entire hotel and staff. It was an absolutely welcome surprise to come to our bridal suite after the reception to find a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries to cap off the most perfect day we could have imagined. Casey Butler, our event planner, was wonderful to work with. She took the time to meet with us individually and walked us through what to expect the day of the reception. Any questions or issues that may have arrived after that meeting, she was always available via email or phone to answer and resolve. On our arrival to the hotel on the wedding weekend we were met with smiles and pleasantries from the Valet, Bell hops, Front Desk and Housekeeping. Everyone was always so pleasant to be around. My family can be a bit demanding and as usual some were, but the Front Desk along with their Supervisor Kaitlyn and Casey handled them with the utmost respect and resolved any issues they had. Our Maitra D ' Amy was the best! She made us feel comfortable and welcoming the minute we met her. Everything was perfect the day of the reception and the next day at Breakfast. From first booking to the day of the event itself, their staff were quite helpful. We had a million questions and concerns for our planner, Molly, and she was very quick to reply. The venue itself is beautiful. We had the ceremony on-site on the lawn with the Hudson in the background. We wanted to get some photos at Trophy Point, a beautiful outlook deeper into West Point's campus and Molly worked with us to ensure that our wedding party and vendors could access the area. Our event of 135 guests was held in the larger ballroom, on the ground level and it was perfect. The room could easily have held more people. Some of our family have specific dietary requirements and the kitchen staff were very flexible, including several silent menu options to those guests at no extra charge. We heard from our guests that the wait staff and bartenders were very attentive and helpful. Our day-of coordinator, Amy, was also very efficient and helpful. She was omnipresent and on top of everything, knowing what signs needed to be where, when different events needed to happen, keeping the favors table stocked, etc. She made us feel like we were totally in control of the flow of the evening without being intrusive on the experience itself. For the price, the Thayer is very similar to many catering halls and event spaces around NY/NJ, but they are a much better deal for the money. My wife and I will always be able to return to the place we were married, and we love that it is a historic and beautiful site, rather than just a nice banquet hall. Kate Campbell(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 02-10-2021 I wish I could give this place zero stars, but alas that’s not an option. My father and I both wrote separately and privately to the GM who never responded. Twenty days later, I did instead get an email telling me that this review had been disputed by the Thayer. Truly disgusting business practice. You want to feel special on your wedding day, not just another cog in the machine, but that was not the experience I had here. They booked SEVEN weddings the same weekend as mine, including THREE on the same lawn at different times. There was a 3:00 wedding just before my 5:00 wedding and we were having to kick the other couple off so we could get our wedding set up as guests were arriving! We were told by Casey (our banquent manager) that we could access the lawn at 4:00 and that there were no other wedding that day as of a few weeks prior. Wrong! Regardless, it was truly dispicable and I feel so awful for the other bride who didn’t get to bask in her moment either. Casey was awful to work with. She didn’t know what was going on at any point, sent us documents to fill out last minute, dropped the ball at every point. Not one thing ran smoothly because of her incompetence. One would expect good service, but it was not delivered. We were bounced around from person to person. This venue is essentially a banquet hall wedding factory. If I had wanted that I should have saved my money and gotten married there because I would have received the same service without the same huge pain in the wallet. There’s an upcharge for everything, like $10 if you would like to use one of their easels for a sign you have. They wouldn’t separate out the line item for service charges so that we wouldn’t have to pay sales tax on top of the 21% service fee, despite showing the accountants and contract team the actual statute that would allow them to do so. I was hoping maybe the food would be the saving grace, but the food we had at the tasting wasn’t even close to the quality of the food served. All of the entrees served at the wedding was cold and inedible, despite it being amazing when we did our tasting. Bottom line - I would never ever ever choose this venue if I could go back in time, or wish it upon anyone else. The Hudson views are not worth the tears or the tens of thousands of dollars. Carly was great at managing our multiple needs and communicating back to us that everything was all set. The staff were all extremely polite and assisted with all of our requests. The food was fantastic! Kelly our day of coordinator took the time to go over everything the day before and then managed things flawlessly throughout the wedding day, taking the hiccups in stride and coming up with different alternatives. The one thing we didn't double check was the food for our special dietary needs guests. While any issues Kelly immediately took care of, there were definitely some differences in what we agreed to and what was provided. Justin Indovina(groom)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 02-02-2020 We just had our wedding here. It was an amazing weekend. We and several of our guests checked in on Friday and we didn't leave until Monday, it was just a wonderful weekend.Let's start at the beginning - Gina and Brianne in the sales department were wonderful. We set-up a couple of meetings, looked through the space and each time we sent an email (with many questions), it was answered in a timely manner.Food - Chef Chris is incredible. So much good food. Our guests couldn't stop talking about how great the food not only in the restuarant, but at both the cocktail hour and reception. We chose this venue because of its beauty and historical significance, but also the price we got was so much better than anything we were trying to do in the city. Having a winter wedding you are always concerned about weather, so having everything - ceremony, reception, and place for people to stay all in one building was a real positive note, not only for us, but both our families. Also, everything that is included from the food and bar to the linens. It really cut down on the number of vendors we have to work with. The front desk staff was great and helpful, especially with our guests checking in and out all weekend. I had a cousin who had an issue with her dress and they even took care of that for her.So why not 5 stars - Here are the small (very nit-picking) things that happened.1) the reservation line - there were many inconsistencies when our guests called in to make a reservation in our room block. For example, a cousin called getting two rooms and he was told by a rep that there were no more queen rooms. His mother called 10 minutes later, spoke to a different rep and was able to get a queen room no problem. We had to make several corrections on room size, price, and dates of reservation. They should figure out a way to do this reservation online. I think it would streamline the process. 2) while the room we got was lovely, was it a bridal suite? What is shown online and what we got were not the same thing. As I said, our room was great, but advertising might be off.3) our day of maitre-d was not as \"on the ball\" as everyone else we worked with was. It seemed that he didn't read any of the notes prior to our rehearsal. I think this because the first question asked was, \"how many in your bridal party?\" (the information was provided and reviewed with management). He also missed several details that we put time in to creating that were then not there during the reception. One my guests called him \"unprofessional\" in the way he spoke to guests and another called him \"mediocre.\"With those three things said, we had an incredible experience planning and executing a beautiful wedding and thank the great people at The Thayer for making it a wedding we will never forget. Mariel Klein(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 14-07-2019 We didn't actually get married at the Thayer; we reserved our block of rooms there and used the restaurant for our rehearsal dinner and the rooftop bar for our after party. Having the Thayer as our hotel made the whole weekend feel really special; it's so grand and historic and our guests who had never been in the area were so impressed with of course the views, but also the quality of the rooms, and the restaurants. The staff was helpful and courteous and accommodating. Our only issue was with the rooftop bar, Zulu Time. I would absolutely NOT recommend booking it for an after party. We booked a private area for Sunday night after our reception because we wanted to party later than the bar would have otherwise stayed open. We paid a lot of money for that space- over $1000, and we were treated like we weren't wanted there. The bartender, who was also apparently the bar manager, wouldn't at first even let us play music, since apparently there was a lacrosse camp staying at the hotel that didn't want music being played? We finally convinced him to let us play some music but were told \"nothing vulgar\" and the volume was turned down to a whisper. Mind you, we were the only ones actually at the bar, there were no other outside bar patrons that we were disturbing. Also the exorbitant fee that we paid for the space got us a cash bar, which okay fine, and sandwich platters, which we assumed would be ample and fitting the price tag. We were pretty disappointed to be met with grocery store sandwiches and one bowl of plain potato chips. Of course you have to pay in full beforehand, or there would have been no way we would have agreed to pay the insane fee we did to basically get a snippy bartender, no music, and a couple of $20 sandwich platters. Save your money. We were really sad about that experience because the rest of our time at the Thayer was so wonderful. Reviewed on 16-07-2019

My husband and I, and our families, were treated so well the entire weekend, from the rehearsal dinner, to the reception, to the breakfast the next day. The whole staff made sure my husband and I were taken care of and went out of their way to make sure we got the drinks and food we wanted. The grounds were the perfect spot for our first look. Plus, everyone loved taking pictures and hanging out outside during our cocktail hour. The grounds are beautiful. The food was absolutely delicious. Everyone loved the food at the cocktail hour, including the hors d'oeuvres and the taco and pasta station, as well as all the food at dinner. We worked with Carly, who was incredibly professional and helpful throughout the whole process. She answered all of my questions, gave me helpful information, and replied to all of my e-mails quickly. She was amazing to work with. My husband and I were planning our wedding from far out of state, so it was so wonderful to have someone so attentive to my questions and someone who answered my e-mails so promptly. We also worked with Brianna, who was our day of coordinator. She was awesome! She made sure all of our needs were met and answered all of my questions. She really made sure the day ran smoothly and everything was taken care of. It would take almost a week if not longer to receive a response. If you are looking to get ready at the Thayer for the big day I highly recommend booking your room as soon as you sign the contract! I didn’t have too much interaction with the maitre’ D and I felt as if we didn’t know what to do, how to line up or when to line up for the ceremony until minutes before the ceremony. We had very little interaction the day of. I also saw her kicking the decorations boxes after they set up the ceremony with the florist. It was extremely rude and not professional at all. They also claimed one of the picture frames broke upon arriving to the Thayer, it’s possible but they also broke one of the florists center pieces that I rented and failed to tell me. I didn’t know it was broken until I had to return the piece back to my florist in which I had to pay for! They should have at least notified me. The communication deserves a 2 but the venue itself deserves a 5! At the end of the day it didn’t ruin my wedding, it will be a day my husband and I will truly never forget and the beautiful scenery and venue and food was exactly what we needed! Jaimie Herr(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 30-06-2018 My review on the Thayer is very split because the wedding that we held here was one of the best days of my Husband and I's life, and there is no place like the Thayer to experience West Point. Ultimately, we threw a beautiful event and I wouldn't have wanted it to be anywhere else. With that said, working with the event planning staff at the Thayer was not always easy and in fact was the cause of the most stress of the entire wedding planning process. When we signed, we LOVED the woman we met with, she was understanding, attentive, cared about us as a couple and showed us how flexible the packages could be. Unfortunately she left for another opportunity before planning really got off the ground and the rest of those we encountered didn't seem to be on the same page at all. It would take weeks for a response to my questions, which I often had to ask multiple times, I got different answers from different people, and most of the time the answer was \"no\". My main question since the beginning was around whether we could swap a station for a beverage upgrade (the house champagne is a $6 bottle that I couldn't stomach), but for weeks no one seemed to be able to give me a straight answer. Eventually I was able to connect with the sales manager and explain to her some of the things we were trying to get answers to. It took weeks to connect and when I pointed this out I was told \"well we're talking now\ Reviewed on 31-07-2018

The transition from switching planners was seamless. Before the wedding we picked out our cake in Peekskill and also had our food tasting. We were able to bring four guests and the food/chef was outstanding! On the day of the wedding everything went so perfectly. It was beyond my expectations. maria K(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 20-08-2016 We had our wedding in the Washington Ballroom on a Saturday Evening, no ceremony on the grounds, we were married in a church. There was another wedding going on at the same time upstairs. I'll start with this: the grounds are beautiful, we took our wedding photos around the grounds of West Point and they are stunning. But this review is about our reception, which was underwhelming and disappointing considering the enormous expense. Over the course of our \"planning\" with the Thayer, our point person changed three times. On our wedding day, the disorganization was incredible and it can definitely be partly attributed to that. But the most disappointing point of all: the food. First of all, an hour for the cocktail reception is way too short and anyone considering booking the Thayer should staunchly insist on a minimum of an hour and a half. My husband's family is in the restaurant business, so to say he was embarrassed by the food would be an understatement. There was another wedding going on in the upstairs ballroom, and our wedding was roughly 200 people so the kitchen definitely had to be organized to get things done right. All of the food came out cold - the pasta dish was stuck together, the meat wasn't cooked to anyone's specifications, the desserts and our wedding cake didn't make it to most of the tables, and the cappuccino machine that we paid significantly more to have was not used at all, as no guests were asked if they wanted espresso or cappucinnos - so we paid extra for nothing. Best of all, at the end of the night when I was exhausted and asked for an espresso (which wasn't offered to me at any point during the night), I was told they already turned the machine off and I couldn't get one. Also, we had chose signature drinks for our the bar - which weren't displayed so no one knew about them, and when I went up to order one it was the worst drink I've ever had. Best to stick to the basic drinks like a gin & tonic because I also don't think the bar tenders they staff for the weddings are the real deal. They touted themselves as having a world class kitchen staff trained at the Culinary Institute - suffice it to say that there was no evidence of that on our wedding day. Luckily, we had a phenomenal band and everyone danced all night so the night wasn't entirely wasted. But you pay for your reception and your focus is on the food. You pay an exorbitant amount per person to have it done right, and it was such a let down. I went to events at standard catering halls that had better food - it was just so disappointing. After the wedding, we communicated this plus much more (I could go on for pages) to the Thayer, their response was that they had too many events that night and their head chef was out that Saturday so that's why it all happened that way- seriously? You charge a ton, then your head chef isn't there overseeing it? Who knows if that was even true. Needless to say, their response to us after the wedding was equally disappointing. We didn't get reimbursed for everything we paid for that wasn't there, and they promised us other accommodations which, suffice it to say, turned out to be more of a hassle and additional frustrations and disappointments with the Thayer that we did not need. I'm hoping they've addressed the issues since, but my advice to anyone considering or booking their reception - be 100% on top of them up to the day of and during your wedding. They need the supervision for you to get your money's worth. Reviewed on 06-02-2018

Kayla Rachel(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 04-11-2017 We had the BEST day at the Thayer Hotel! We only looked at 4 venues when we got engaged and fell in love the second we drove up to the hotel. The sales consultant we worked with is no longer with the Thayer, but I would assume that the experience is still the same... many of the venues we looked at were not flexible regarding some options we wanted to have, but the Thayer was quick to explain what we could work out rather than just a flat no. Once we got to the planning stages, we worked with Joanna and Gina, both of whom were incredible to work with. I never had to wait more than 24 hours for a response to any questions I had and they were both so accommodating to our requests and inquiries. Our Maitre D and the rest of the staff on our wedding day were also phenomenal. Many of our guests have commented to us about the quality of service they received. Now - THE FOOD!!!!!! I can't rave enough! My husband typically never orders steaks at a wedding because he is always frustrated that they are not evenly/properly cooked. Even he was blown away at the quality of the steaks at our wedding - everyone's was cooked perfectly! The cocktail hour food was also delicious and very well-prepared, we've received many comments on this so our compliments to the chef! Everyone has been saying it was the best wedding they have ever been to and this is a direct result of the organization and hard work we witnessed. We also want to thank the entire wait staff who served our guests. They absolutely went above and beyond and personalized the service they provided. They got our gluten-free guests the appropriate meals and cake, they made \"to-go\" meals for my brother and his family when their kids were fussy and they had to leave the reception before eating dinner, and my husband said he never had to order a drink all night because the waitress for our table would hunt him down with a fresh glass of his special bourbon each time she noticed he was finished and even spent extra time helping his mother make a decision about which meal to order based on her dietary preferences. Perfect for outdoor photographs. Our tasting was amazing (my Dad raved about it for weeks!) and we got plenty of compliments on the food the night of the wedding as well.We were able to book a block of rooms ahead of time for some of our guests, and we even had the rehearsal dinner and day-after breakfast at the Thayer. Amy Koppe(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 31-12-2016 We had the PERFECT wedding day thanks to the Thayer Hotel! My husband is in the military, and it was important for us to get married in a venue that highlighted that, and we also loved the idea of having everyone be able to stay right at the wedding venue. It was wonderful after a long, fun night, that everyone was able to just walk right upstairs to their rooms! My husband and I got married in their biggest ballroom on New Year’s Eve, and there were several other weddings going on that same weekend. Despite this, we felt that the staff gave us individualized attention and you would have never known there were other weddings except for the lobby being crowded with families gathering. The food and service, along with our Maitre D Amanda, were OUTSTANDING the entire weekend and everything ran incredibly smoothly. Our guests could not stop commenting on how beautiful of a venue it was, and how amazing the food and service was the entire weekend. We also had a wonderful experience working with Stacey to book our venue. The only reason I did not give the Thayer a full five stars is because of a couple of hiccups we had during the planning process. Our initial planner Cathy was not the best at communicating with us. She eventually left the Thayer several months before our wedding, which made us incredibly nervous. However, once we were paired up with Joanna, our new planner, we were relieved to find that she was kind, patient, organized, and on-top of everything. In addition, we had some difficulty adding rooms to our hotel block because they wanted to save some rooms for the other weddings going on that weekend, which was unfortunate since we had booked our (very large 200 person!) wedding first. Furthermore, on speaking with the general manager on one occasion, we found her to be a bit impatient and not the best in terms of customer service. However, the unbelievable perfection of our wedding day and of working with Joanna close to our wedding date completely outweighs these minor instances, and we would book the Thayer again in heartbeat! Lisa Romesser(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 07-01-2017 I waited to write this because I wasn't sure how to rate the Thayer.Elizabeth, the Sales Manager, was knowledgeable and sweet, great at answering questions, showing us around, and overall selling the place. Just remember, she isn't the person who will be your event coordinator once your contracts are signed. My first event coordinator was Cathy who was new to the position and we had time - we booked our event a year in advance. She was slow to respond, but well intentioned. And thank goodness for her, because she sent us a list of what to do when that we relied on later. But then she left.We still had a decent amount of time left for planning, so when Joanna took over as our wedding event planner, we were thrilled, mainly because I had read such good reviews of her and knew she had more experience. But apparently organization in the events department was pretty chaotic because we were repeatedly told to just be patient, just get through the busy season because Joanna had to pick up things that she had just been handed off, etc. During this period, we were lucky we had Cathy's list of when things were going to happen because we weren't invoiced for payments and we had to prompt for things like information on scheduling our cake and menu tastings. I know it sounds petty and high maintenance, but we just kept waiting to feel like our wedding was a priority, and it just didn't feel like it ever quite got there. Joanna did ultimately provide us with what we needed to get things done (room layout, drop off scheduling, etc.) and did do several very nice things (fluff my dress before I walked down the aisle, for example).Pros of the Thayer: the site is absolutely stunning, the food was amazing (both at the reception and at brunch the next day), and the serving staff and valets were fantastic. Even though there were three weddings the weekend of our wedding (in January, go figure), I never saw another bride and we were never displaced.Cons: The hotel piece of our stay was disappointing. The room block situation is not easy to manage and different people got told different things when they called. One of my aunts was locked out of her room and couldn't get in (and staff couldn't either) to get dressed for the wedding. I had specifically asked for the pullout couch in the bridal suite to be made up with fresh sheets for the second night because my girls were on it the night before and my stepdaughter the night after, and this did not happen. Housekeeping did not take any trash out between the two nights or clean up anything in the room. My bridesmaids tidied as best they could but the trash was a mess. For the wedding itself: We did a first look and pictures before the ceremony. We did have a couple of guests running late, but somehow staff decided we were delaying the start of our ceremony a half an hour, and we couldn't find Amanda, our day of coordinator, anywhere, so one of my family members had to gather people to sit for the ceremony. We were scheduled for things in hour blocks and accurately guessed our ceremony would last half an hour, thus people had to stand around the lobby for half an hour before cocktail hour opened. Also, I did have to wonder why we filled out certain things on the questionnaires, because they didn't follow them - we asked for no champagne toast but got one, did not want to save our top tier, got a phone call the next day to pick it up, etc.Overall though, we loved our wedding. Vanessa Anderson(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 23-10-2015 The Thayer hotel was one of the best decisions we made throughout the wedding process. From the first exchange on the phone with their sales manager, Stacey, I felt at ease. A lot of people I spoke to and met with at other venues were rude and impatient. But Stacey was a different story. I initially spoke with her on the phone about the wedding options they offered as I wanted to make sure it was an affordable option for us. We set a day/time to meet and my fiance and I drove up on a weekend to see the hotel and meet with Stacey. The hotel is gorgeous. From the moment we pulled up to the hotel, we were drawn in by the historic charm and impressive scenery (and this is just the front). We met with Stacey who showed us around the hotel and all of the wedding room options as well as areas our guests could dine or drink at during the weekend. She even showed us a hotel room so we could see what our guests would be experiencing- so thoughtful! The ceremony can be held outside overlooking the Hudson River and surrounding scenery which is breathtaking. In the fall, with all those colors in the trees and the historic style of the hotel, this was my dream come true. After the tour we all sat down and discussed the menu, details, etc. I had a lot of questions and Stacey answered every one without making me feel like she was getting frustrated or impatient with me. We left and kept this one on the list. Over the next few weeks, I asked a lot more questions. Again, Stacey responded quickly and answered every one. I can't thank her enough for her patience. When we arrived the day before our wedding (of course we chose the place), we were greeted warmly by the event planner, Joanna. She sat with us and we reviewed all of the wedding items we brought for the event. She walked us through the timeline and showed us the room and how it would be set up. We had already finalized these details via email but now were going through it in person. Later we met for the rehearsal and all went well. On the day of the wedding, everything went smoothly. The only hick up was that our photographers showed up and they wouldn't give them the info for our room right away. We had put them on our vendor list so I'm still not sure what happened there but hey, if that's the worst thing that happened, no problem! Everything that had to do with the Thayer hotel and their staff was phenomenal. Rachel Fiuk(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 03-09-2016 From the moment I reached out to the Thayer to set an appointment to see the venue, I felt comfortable. Other venues had practically interrogated me on the phone about my wedding (of which I hadn't planed anything yet!), but the team at the Thayer was always beyond professional, calm, and friendly. We had a lot of wedding planning stress- the groom being stationed in another country and us moving overseas less than a week after the wedding, handfuls of guests flying out from Europe and Australia, and scheduling difficulties with our ceremony location- but while all of that was going on, I knew that I didn't have to worry about the reception because the Thayer team was on top of it all. Ashley D(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 29-05-2016 We had a lovely wedding at the Thayer Hotel. The venue itself is beautiful, and we were in the downstairs ballroom that has outdoor access and wonderful views that show off our beloved Hudson Valley. The weekend of the event, staff members were very accommodating and made sure everything went well. There was another wedding happening on the same date as ours, but there was no overlap of event space. The most stressful part was working with the Thayer leading up to the big day. We had some trouble with our room block and heard negative feedback about the level of service when guests contacted the front desk. Some people reported having a hard time sleeping on the river side of the hotel because it's attached to the outdoor bar area, so advise light sleepers to ask for a mountain side room. None of it really seems to matter now, but I do remember being frustrated at the time. If you do host your reception at the Thayer, know that it will all work out and your guests will have a fabulous time! Reviewed on 28-10-2016

Lindsay Haley(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 24-09-2016 5 out of 5 for sure! From start to finish, having my reception at the Thayer was the best decision ever. On the initial tour, Elizabeth was so detailed and took us to see everything around the hotel, even the bridal suites. She sat down and explained everything to us to the point that I barley had any questions. Through our engagement I had a ton of requests and questions, between Elizabeth and Joanna, everything we wanted was taken care of. They were so on top of it and accommodating. They even gave great advice on things that I wasn't sure about. But the best thing I have to say about having my reception there was the reception itself. I brought all my things to Joanna and Debbie ahead of time and they brought my vision to life. The room looked INCREDIBLE! The food was amazing, the staff was so friendly, Debbie was a rockstar Maitre d, and people were raving. We went right upstairs to Zulu Time rooftop lounge for the after party and Debbie even helped some of my guests find food late at night for munchies. She made me a hot toddy because my throat was killing me. I really can't say enough good things! All of my things from the reception were packed up nicely and easy to take home the next day. We went to our wonderful Sunday brunch at the Thayer and got to reminisce about the night. I would recommend this stunning venue to anyone! Reviewed on 26-10-2016

I dealt with mostly Alex who was new and came in the middle of my planning. My main point of contact was switched after booking and she was great and always answered me in a timely manner and gave me the responses I either needed or was looking for. The food was very good for a party of 200. Cooking for that many people can be hard, but everyone had nice things to say. \r\rThe only thing I would say negatively was the communication between the hotel desk and the sales team was challenging. It felt like they did not communicate, which made it harder for me. All in all it worked out, and everyone worked together in the end. \r\rWe had the most perfect weather, which can really make or break a day at The Thayer so we really lucked out. Anonymous (parent)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 24-11-2016 On the evening of February 13th, our daughter and her boyfriend gave us the happy news that they had just gotten engaged; on February 14th they let us know that they planned to get married sometime in August. At that point, my wife and I sat back in our chairs and realized that we had to plan and host a wedding, all within 7 months! To add an additional layer of complexity to the situation, my daughter and her fiance had decided to get married at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY, since her fiance, Todd, was a recent graduate of that school. ……..We live in Louisiana!!!! Panic then began to really set in, and the very next day we began our scramble to plan for an August wedding that would take place more than 1500 miles away.\r\rWithout going into all of the angst and panic that ensued with regard to searching and finding a place to hold the wedding reception, thanks to the reviews on the Knot we made the decision to hold the wedding reception at the Thayer Hotel at West Point. The entire process of booking and arranging the reception was made very easy due to the efforts of Elizabeth Keith, the Catering Manager, and Joanna Signorelli, the Wedding and Social Event Planner for the Thayer. Our interactions with the Thayer Event team were nothing short of outstanding! \r\rIn May, my wife and I flew to New York and visit West Point just to get an understanding of the enormity of the task facing us. We also arranged for a food/beverage tasting with Chef Lee Clements at the Thayer hotel during our visit. We were delighted with the quality and selection of the food that was presented to us during the tasting; the main difficulty we faced was making our final selections for the wedding.\r\rThe wedding did take place in August. Although one might expect that numerous glitches would arise during the day, everything went off without a hitch! Debbie Chichetti, the Maitre D assigned for our reception, worked quietly in the background making sure everything moved smoothly during the cocktail hour and the reception. The banquet hall for the reception was beautiful, the flowers for the wedding and reception arranged by Mayuri's Floral Designs, New City, NY. The DJ was Andrew from Turntable events. The photographers and videographers were from H& H Photographers. The Thayer staff (Joanne and Debbie) worked seamlessly with these other vendors to make sure that everything was in place, and the specific needs for each vendor were met. The Wait Staff was extremely professional and went out of their way to make sure everything went well with the dinner service. The server for our table went out of her way to assist my sister and brother-in-law with a emergency situation, taking care of the situation quietly and discretion. \r\rI cannot say enough good things about how the entire Thayer staff worked so hard to make our daughter's special day a success and a wonderful occasion to remember. \r\rWe followed up the reception experience the next morning, by hosting a Farewell Breakfast for our guests at the Thayer. Again the event went off without a hitch, due to the efforts of Joanna, Debbie, and the dining room staff. \r\rA very recent comment of one of guests can be used to succinctly summarize our Thayer Wedding Reception Experience……… \"the minute we stepped into the Thayer, we were treated like royalty\". \r Reviewed on 24-09-2015

It was a wonderful summer evening - absolutely beautiful venue with great views, good food & service. \r\rWe had our ceremony offsite and bussed guests back for a beautiful outdoor cocktail hour followed by a seated dinner and dancing. The food was great & I can't say enough good things about our maitre d' Debbie - she was kind, thoughtful and helpful the whole evening. After the reception, we moved up to Zulu Time (the rooftop bar) for an afterparty celebration - so much fun! We stayed in the older bridal suite (we had a choice and chose the one with a four poster bed) - such a beautiful room with a stunning view. And a great space to get ready in! The morning after, a few of us had brunch at MacArthur's - a delicious buffet. \r\rMost of our guests were from out of town and stayed at the Thayer. We received so many compliments about the guests rooms and other restaurant options at the Thayer (rooftop lounge, Patton's Tavern..) but heard mixed things about the ease of making reservations at the front desk. \r\rAs great as the actual day was, we did have a few difficulties leading up to it. My husband and I initially booked with a different venue but switched to the Thayer when our original venue became incredibly slow (1+ months) to respond to emails. Unfortunately, we switched to the Thayer during a time of their own transition so we experienced many of the same problems. Our original Thayer coordinator was Lexi. However, after we signed our contract, she left and we were assigned to Stacey. I could not get in touch with her for almost 3 months despite multiple attempts. She did not contact me at all until a payment was due. However, we were then soon advised that Stacey would help with only some of the planning and Alex Spezial would help with most of the coordinating and details. From this point forward, we had limited interaction with Stacey so I can't speak to her skills. However, Alex was great from the start. She had good ideas, responded quickly and was accommodating - we had quite a few special requests and she made almost everything happen. We had our tasting (along with 4 guests!) with Alex and she fielded dozens of questions from me and my family. The chef and maitre d' both introduced themselves during the tasting which I appreciated - it was nice to see Debbie's familiar face the day of!\r\rOn the wedding day, we returned late from the ceremony - Alex worked to push back our cocktail hour and reception to accommodate this. \r\rDespite the few difficulties in planning the wedding, I would highly recommend the Thayer to any couple looking for a romantic venue with views of the Hudson River and tons of photo opportunities. \r\rEverything with smoothly with Durant's & Pastry Garden as well - two of their recommended vendors. \r\rThanks to the Thayer team! We hosted our welcome party, ceremony and our reception at the Thayer and we couldn't have been happier with the way the day ultimately worked out. Everything was perfect and weeks later, we're still hearing rave reviews - from the food, the open bar, the location, to how smoothly the ceremony and reception ran. We are still in awe of how great it truly was!\r\rThat said, leading up to the wedding was not without hiccups. Our original coordinator left the Thayer approximately 5 months prior to our wedding date. We did not receive the phone message the new coordinator sent informing us of the change, nor was there any formal mail or email correspondence. Instead, I learned of the change after I received an email response to an outstanding inquiry that did not appropriately address my question nor did it have my wedding date correct. To the Thayer's credit, as soon as I called, the catering manager called me directly on her day off and put me at ease.\r\rThe transition was slightly bumpy as the new catering manager did not take down all notes and often was late to reply or did not respond fully to my or mother's emails - causing additional back and forth. This became particularly frustrating following our tasting (Which was amazing!!). Following the tasting we agreed on when we would submit our menu and seating chart (and emailed again to confirm the deadline). The catering manager gave us a later a due date, and then called me, my dad, and my mom on a Friday night (3 days prior to the agreed upon deadline) giving us a very hard time about us not sending in the required information - because she was getting yelled at and would be out of the office and also told my mother she needed a checklist. Had she given us an earlier deadline, we would have have happily sent it in on time. She reminded us of this during our walk through the day of the wedding. It was an unnecessary cause for stress that none of us needed and I was very well on top of things. \r\rAside from managing my catering manager, I was very happy with the staff at the Thayer. The tasting, the service, and the venue was incredible. The banquet manager and the catering manager's assistant were spot on the day of (reminder to brides - your catering manager leads up to the wedding, but her assistant and the banquet manager drive the wedding day itself).\r\rLastly, please ensure your guests are aware of the 4pm check-in requirements if they are travelling the day of an evening ceremony. This was challenging for our guests, but the staff did do they best they could to accommodate.\r\rAll in all - The catering manager was excellent on the day of and despite the minor hiccups listed above, at no point did I ever worry our day wouldn't work out perfectly! We can't wait to visit the Thayer again. The food and open bar, the setting, the wait staff, the front desk staff - everyone- kudos to all of you. She was always willing to answer my calls and work with me even months before the wedding when I know she was swamped with a number of other weddings; she never let me feel like I was second to anyone.\rWe had a pretty large wedding and many guests staying over. The Thayer had originally reserved 30 rooms at the Hotel in a block for our guests. The reservation team was very pleasant to work with and dealt with hundreds of our family and friends. We ended up having 68 rooms in total. Our wedding guest took up most of the hotel and no one complained to me about anything! It proves that the Thayer was very professional and can handle some stressful situations.\rWe had our rehearsal dinner in a private room (Hap Arnold Room) with family and bridal party on friday night and it was delicious food, helpful service and a great time. The day of our wedding, the girls hung out in our suite and had breakfast delivered and everything was seamless (on the bride's part )\r15 minutes before the groom was supposed to leave for the ceremony, he realized he did not have a bow tie or suspenders! Lorraine was ON IT and quickly fixed our mini disaster and had a bowtie and suspenders ready for him and he was on time for photos and the ceremony!\rThere was a ceremony an hour before our cocktail hour on the lawn and it was so quickly cleaned up and out of the way that I didn't even realize there was another ceremony. \rThe photos were breathtaking from the West Point Campus at Trophy point and also from the Thayer.\rOur cocktail reception was downstairs next to the George Washington Ballroom and also had a tented outdoor area. The cocktail reception appetizers were delicious and everyone loved them.\rThen our reception was in the George Washington Ballroom. Everything was set up exactly how I wanted it, the room looked gorgeous. Again, Lorraine was so helpful with organizing everyone's entrance and making sure we had everything we needed.\rThe banquet coordinator (I forget her name) was very helpful and since we did not get to eat anything at the reception, she arranged that all of our food (apps, main course, bread and dessert) were taken back to our suite for a midnight snack. \rAll of our belongings that we had brought to the wedding and our gifts etc were taken back to our room and waiting for us.\rThe next morning, we had a breakfast buffet for our guests. Again, beautifully set up, plenty of space, great food. They reused our flower arrangements from the reception at the breakfast and it looked great.\rOverall, our wedding was truly perfect and we were so pleased at how everything came together the day of our wedding. Only an hour from NYC and most northern and central NJ locations, and nestled in the beautiful Hudson Valley region, the Thayer offers you all of the perks of a destination wedding but close to home! \r\rThe Hotel: The Thayer is a castle-like structure set on a hill at the entrance of West Point. From the moment they step foot into the lobby, your guests will be awestruck by its grandeur and historical significance. The rooms are wonderful, ranging from cozy traditional rooms, to more modern suites. \r\t\rThe Ballrooms are each more beautiful than the next. The Grant Ballroom is enchanting with its cathedral-like feel, high ceilings, stained glass windows and beautiful chandeliers. While the three ballrooms on the lobby level are all spectacular, we wanted to have our ceremony outside and wanted to have use of the hotel’s back lawn and patio, so we hosted our reception in the Washington Ballroom. The Ballroom is magnificent – beautiful brass light fixtures, lovely linens, a dance floor with a beautiful wood inlay design, no kitchen noise, no interaction with the other hotel guests, very private, and what is most spectacular are the walls of windows overlooking the spectacular view.\r\rIf you want wow factor, the Thayer is the place! The view will take your breath away! We were married outside against the backdrop of the Hudson, the mountains, and trees. We first saw the venue in late fall, had our tasting during winter after a snow, and married in late spring when everything was in bloom. The Thayer was beautiful during every season!!!\r\r\rThe Food:\tI am Italian and my husband is a Foodie, so the pressure was on when it came to feeding our guests. The Thayer’s food ROCKED!!! The cocktail hour offered a wide array of passed appetizers, as well as a few stations. The dinner was also delicious! The portions were generous, but the food was so good that everyone cleared their plates! The cake was included in the contract price, but was made at one of the local bakeries – so we were able to go for a tasting, choose from awesome flavor options, and come up with a design that went with our esthetic. \r\rThe True Gem of the Thayer: Everything about the Thayer is perfect! But what truly sets the Thayer apart is Stacey J. She is an incredible professional so I have no doubt that she made every bride feel special, but I felt as though I was the only person she thought about for months leading up to that day! But so did my husband and so did my mom and so did my in-laws! She gave each of us her full attention! She was not only prompt in responding to our inquiries, but she also anticipated most of our needs and questions before we even thought of them! \r\rShe was invaluable in the planning process. She handled the emotions and tensions attendant to planning a special (and expensive) event meant to combine two families into one, with grace, sensitivity, sincerity, and always with a smile!! While I am sure all of her colleagues are also extraordinary, we were lucky enough to have Stacey Jones as our wedding point person. She is a delightful, charming, kind, and lovely person – you could not ask for someone more special to be a part of your wedding day! \r Reviewed on 07-10-2013

Allison Nelson(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 21-07-2012 I got married at The Thayer Hotel on July 21, 2012. The hotel was pretty much my first vendor so I worked with them for 14 months before the wedding. The venue had everything we were looking for - a hotel without it looking like a hotel, outdoor space for ceremony, and a sizable ballroom for 200 guests. The day turned out amazing - the staff was wonderful. They created a lot of food stations they don't normally do for our cocktail hour, and while they charged extra, they did it with a smile. I do have to warn brides about a catering manager in the office, though. We were working with Lexi, the senior catering manager, until about a month before the wedding. My husband and I were not too thrilled with her in the beginning because her personality was very blah and for someone who coordinates people's happiest days, she was very unexcited. I also realized very quickly that she didn't carry her promises through, so I learned to only communicate through email with her. About a month before the wedding, I found out about a few things that I wish I had known/I felt as though she had plenty of opportunity to at least mention. For example, that another wedding was using my ceremony space up until 1 hour prior to my ceremony (we had been told up and down that we were the only wedding that weekend), thus not allowing the florists to decorate as we thought; she told me she had no idea why all the hotel rooms were booked when the reason was that there was another wedding going on; she told us we'd have to pay an extra $400 per her beverage manager to provide mint at the bar in case our guests were to order a mojito - we found out later that the bar always has mint and we wouldn't have to pay the money. When the smoke cleared, I asked for a new coordinator, Stacey, who went above and beyond, on top of being sweet and patient (and she was in charge of the other wedding that day too, but she did it all with a smile - unlike Lexi, who never smiled). I would advise every bride to STEER CLEAR of Lexi, but know that once you do, the hotel will definitely take care of your wedding. Reviewed on 07-08-2012
Stephanie Iammartino(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 23-05-2011 We had our ceremony at the Cadet Chapel and our reception at The Thayer Hotel. Let me start by saying that our actual wedding reception was gorgeous and everyone had a wonderful time. The problems we had were with the planning process. \rWe had to plan our wedding from out of state, as many couples who marry at West Point do. One of the major issues we had was that as we grew closer to the wedding day, about 98% of the time when we called our wedding coordinator she was \"out of the office\" for the next couple of days. Then, of course, she was out of the office the day before the wedding as well. This was a problem because we had guests who ended up with ants in their room, some had no air conditioning, etc. I found all of this out later, but the guests had to take it up with the front desk staff when really our coordinator should have taken care of it. Also, the morning of the wedding, we were promised the Bridal Suite to get ready in since there were so many bridesmaids and our hair/makeup artist was coming to the hotel. Well, it turned out that someone had checked into the Bridal Suite late the night before, so now we were out of luck - and the regular rooms at The Thayer are not very spacious. So my sister had to take it up with the front desk - she ended up getting us a conference room on the first floor which worked out fine. But again - could have been taken care of by the coordinator. The Thayer is a gorgeous hotel and like I said, the reception was wonderful. However, for the amount of money they demand, their service is extremely lacking. Reviewed on 27-06-2012
Breanna Brousseau(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 27-05-2012 My Husband graduated from West Point the day before our wedding and I knew I wanted to get married at West Point. Thayer Hotel was perfect for our low key wedding. We had our cocktail reception on the patio outside at \"Zulu Time\" and everybody had a great time. The staff was great and served our cake and champagne and was very accommodating for our needs! Reviewed on 19-06-2012
Victoria Kosara(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 12-05-2012 Lexi and the team at the Thayer went above and beyond to make our wedding special. Although there were three other weddings in the building at the same time, we felt as though all was focused on our event. Everything from the food to the atmosphere to the incredible wait and bar staff was just right. It made for a beautiful and memorable wedding day without any stress. The team also went above and beyond before and after our wedding--the customer service is outstanding! Reviewed on 08-06-2012
Esther Hu(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-03-2012 We had our platted dinner reception at the Thayer Hotel and the staff was absolutely fantastic. The wedding coordinator was always responsive to my emails, accomodating to our needs, straightforwad. and very helpful throughout the event. The event staff was super professional and thoughtful - they saved the centerpieces and reused them for our bunch the next morning, they thoroughly cleaned the saber we used to cut the cake, and they neatly packed all the cards/candles/pictures that were left over.\rThe only thing that was slightly disappointing was the platting of the food. The initial tasting was so delicious and beautiful but the day-of platting and taste were not of the same quality. Reviewed on 20-04-2012

She even helped us plan a breakfast the next morning. There were absolutely no suprises on the big day. Not only was Stacey a fantastic event planner, the whole rest of The Thayer team was exceptional. The whole event was incredibly well done, and I am still having people contact to tell me what a great time and great food they had! Everything I wanted was done, there was clear planning a head of time and such a fine attention to detail! We had a great time on our big day and would reccomend The Thayer to anyone! phyllis selini(bride)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 13-08-2011 Property beautiful & food was good! But..the air conditioning either wasn't on, or hardly worked. Guests were quite uncomfortable. We were told that the issue was that people kept opening the doors, but the doors were first opened because the room was so hot. * We thought \"wine served w/dinner\" meant that there would be bottles on the tables. Even if our expectation was incorrect, when my father & my sis-in-law separately asked the maitre d' to have wine bottles placed on the tables, they were told it would be done after the salad course, but that never happened. * Several of our guests asked servers for drinks at their tables and never got them. * We were told there was to be 1 bar on each side of the room. Instead 2 bars were placed on same side 2gether, which resulted in long lines @ bar. When asked, the Thayer rep said she did not know why.* No food or drinks were provided in the bridal suite. We specifically asked about this leading up to the wedding and were told there would be. So bride, groom, & bridal party did not eat cocktail hour food.* Cold rawbar & carving station were not kept well stocked. More came out once my father asked, but feedback was that they were replenished slowly. (At $20 pp not worth it) * Viennese hour was underwhelming. An inadequate amount of desserts and access were provided in a timely manner for 180 guests. Only 1 line was able to be formed since tables were set up only along one side of room. Cookies and pastries were late to come out, and thus most guests had already sat back down before they were made available. * Espresso/cappuccino station only had 1 server for 180 guests, and was placed at the entrance to the viennese room, resulting in long lines as a result, with many guests giving up and not bothering to enter the room for coffee or dessert due to frustration with the long line. (dont bother paying xtra for this). You are better off getting cookies served at the tables along with coffee). * Bride and groom had little to no interaction with the maitre d', nor did we have a bridal attendant. We saw the maitre d' just before our entrance to the reception, then not again until after dessert. Also, I thought during our discussions with the rep at Thayer (Lexi), that she was going to be present during the reception. She said that the first hour she was busy parking cars because they did not put enough valet on staff. Not sure where she was (or anyone for that matter) the rest of the night. We felt we had no one checking on us to ensure any of our needs were met at all during the event. As for the hotel portion:\r* Many of the guests were provided w/unrenovated rooms. This was embarrassing to us and not considerate to our guests. Our block should have been reserved with only the renovated rooms. We were not even informed that there was this distinction. One of the guest's air conditioning didn't even work in the room.* My maid of honor reserved 3 rooms, and at the time of reservation, sd she would nd cribs. Upon check in, she was told that there were no cribs and she had been misinformed. She was finally provided with one small playpen for 3 kids. Ordered room service for kids, did not show up until 10pm (even after calling many times). Kids fell asleep & did not eat at all! After event I called many times, hardly got calls back & when did, no explanations were provided to the long list of complaints. $200 pp was not worth it! I asked for $10k refund but settled @ $2500 to be done w/the poor service Reviewed on 20-12-2011

All of our guests said that they had a great time at the wedding and itw was so unique to have a wedding reception at West Point. We met with Lexi, the wedding planner, numerous times and she answered all of our questions and make sure to address all of our concerns. The wedding went very smoothly and it was very organized. After the wedding, the staff brought all of our gifts up to our room, which was a beautiful suite with amazing views. After our wedding everyone went up to the rooftop bar and continued the party.
