The Victorian Belle Mansion Reviews
Elisabeth Kramer(other)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 21-05-2022 I'm a wedding planner, which means I work with a lot of different venues. Usually, I don't write them reviews but I'm making an exception for The Victorian Belle because Kylie and her team were just that good. The Belle team really went above and beyond for a wedding we worked together in May 2022, putting in countless hours before the wedding to get up-to-speed and showing up with positive energy and hard work on the actual day.I was impressed by everyone I encountered on staff, from the main venue lead to the newest employees on the catering team. All were eager to help, kind, and excited to celebrate the couple and their guests. That's notable and I felt worthy of a review so thanks, Team Victorian Belle! I appreciate you. My wife and I had our wedding here in Sept 2023. I’m glad we chose them over the 20ish other places we toured. Working with Diana and Amy made the planning and the day of super easy. I was worried that our constant barrage of questions leading up to the event would get annoying, but Diana responded quickly and thoughtfully. I’m glad we also hired Kari from “Don’t Mess with the Bride” as our day of coordinator. Amy was amazing and constantly on top of the flow of the day, but it was really helpful to have a coordinator for the vendors and to keep our wedding party on schedule. The place looked immaculate! Everything we needed was taken care of quickly. And there wasn’t even one thing I can think of that fell through the cracks. (Except for me forgetting to write my own little speech thanking our guests). After doing the tastings we were worried that the food wasn’t going to be as great as the hype, but we brought up our concerns and they were all addressed. The food came out better than anticipated and we had lots of compliments from our vegan guests about how great the options for them were. Unfortunately with 140 guests I heard that some of them weren’t able to get the chicken because it ran out before all the tables were served. (Later I heard that some guests were going back for 2nds and 3rds before all the table had a chance to get served. Plated service would’ve prevented this). The drinks were strong, and we got to design three signature cocktails named after our pets. We printed beautiful themed drink tickets to manage our bar bill, and ended up paying less than we had anticipated. They even made an exception for my wife and I to allow us to bring a bottle of special champagne from our engagement (with a corkage fee). The dance floor in the gazebo was great! Large enough to fit the DJ and all of our guests with room to dance. It was an 80 degree day, and the night was in the 70s, so it would’ve been nice to have some fans moving air across the dance floor. After the event we had a few items left at the venue and they held on to them and arranged a time to pick them up.In all I am grateful that the Victorian Belle exceeded my expectations! I can’t wait to revisit for High Tea, and Burlesque dates. Reviewed on 24-11-2023

Everyone at the Victorian Belle was knowledgeable, helpful, and took care to make sure every detail was in place! It unexpectedly rained, and they had tents, umbrellas, and were able to relocate the ceremony into the large gazebo without any issues. It was an absolutely perfect day! I couldn't have picked a better venue for our wedding! Reviewed on 13-11-2023

We had our wedding in June of 2023. The venue was beautiful, the staff was incredible, and everything went so easily. The fact that the venue offers so much in the way of decor made clean up a breeze. Diana and the staff were incredible and saved the day when our florist forgot a basket for the flower girl. The Victorian Belle was the most beautiful venue and the staff was so good. Working with Diana and the other staff was a breeze. Everyone was so supportive and so kind with2 all of my questions. We had a ceremony in one part of the garden, dinner in the other part, and then a live band in the gazebo for dancing. They have their own kitchen, and the food was amazing! It was also one less vendor to coordinate. The people who work there are all fantastic, and they were super accommodating with covid issues that made us reschedule 4 times. We also had afternoon tea here one sunday and that was really fun too! Madeline Kozloff(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 21-03-2022 I am really upset to leave this review. Initially my now husband and I were supposed to get married a week after Oregon announced its lockdown for COVID, however the Belle decided to cancelled our wedding date leaving us to scramble 9 months before our available date. When we tried to sign the contract, they had just fired their manager so things were scattered, however, we loved the atmosphere and pushed forward. Then we had 2 coordinators before our day - neither of whom kept or passed along our notes. Then after postpone and having another 2 coordinators from the Belle (who they did not communicate had left and been assigned new ones), we requested to work with a manager (the coordinators were very nice, but it was hard to get anyone to respond to us and we were looking for consistency and communication). We found a new date and took time off to go there and re-sign the contract only to find no one there when we arrived. 45 mins and multiple calls later, we finally get ahold of someone telling us Bennett (who we could hear in the background) would call us directly. He had his secretary call us. And while she was very kind, it was completely inappropriate to send her to call, as we were expecting him. We told her while we appreciated her reaching out, it was his job to call us and he needs to email us to find time to reschedule.Instead they emailed to cancel our contract and offer us part of our money back (~$4k). Only part because they didn't keep accurate records of our transactions. We had to search and find them (accurate total was over $9k). In short, it's a beautiful location, but you cannot count on them to communicate, follow through, keep accurate notes or transaction data, or even have the same person to talk to. I'm so glad we had a different venue who were able to deliver a worry-free wedding. Something I definitely couldn't count on from the Victorian Belle.Run. Far away. Reviewed on 25-03-2022

cheryl koller(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 15-06-2019 Our 50th Vow Renewal is in June and we booked the Belle last year. During that time the Belle changed management and the place was in disarray. I was heart broken to see this wonderful house in disrepair. We met with Taylor, the new manager and she outlined what needed to be done to get it ready for all the planned events, including ours. Needless to say I was very concerned as I looked at the mud and destroyed grass on the grounds etc.. We came back for the event planning with her and the staff and during that time they had torn up the lawn, leveled it and placed sod. It was beautiful. Other clean up was done and Doug the Special Project Manager told us what else would be done by the time of our event. We then proceeded to the menu tasting, with the new chef and his staff. The food was delicious and presentation was lovely. We left feeling so much better and I told Taylor that I am so totally amazed on the transformation in such a short time. It shows that she and her staff love the Victorian Belle and want her guests to experience the beauty that it can offer. I will post another review after our event. Thank You Taylor. We were so happy that they took care of the set-up and breakdown of tables, chairs, linens, etc. The staff is so helpful, accommodating, and kind. Joe (director), Jessica (day of coordinator), and Jeff (chef) were all quick to answer questions, assist in any way possible, and help us have a beautiful, stress-free wedding day. They went above and beyond to make sure we had a perfect experience. For example, they provided vegan dishes for some of our guests, and hunted down the mother-of-the-groom’s lost glasses. My friend ended up having her wedding here and I was one of the bridesmaids. From the perspective as a wedding party member, the staff were great and super knowledgeable. They clearly had done events dozens of times because they had great input, feedback, and general direction. Attendees I talked to thought the space was beautiful, and thought the food was delicious! They also loved that everything was on the same property - the ceremony, the cake cutting, the reception etc. Most weddings I have been in or attended have required everyone to go from one location to another - I also appreciated that wasn't the case at VB. Kelly Owen(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 05-10-2017 I'm not a wedding venue expert as this was my first and only wedding, but getting married at Victorian Belle was like a fairy tale. I initially went to look at the venue but did not think it was in my price range. However, Joe, the event director, went over different options with me, and I found out getting married during the week and off season meant I could have my dream wedding at the Belle and stay within my budget. In regards to communications, Joe and my wedding planner, Jade, always got back to me within the same day. Let's face it; having a wedding is expensive. But if you can swing it and have a venue that provides a wedding planner and most everything is included, it's well worth it! I couldn't imagine having to coordinate it all myself because as a bride, you are supposed to just enjoy your day! And that was the case with Victorian Belle on my wedding day. Several of my guests said it was the most beautiful and fun wedding they ever attended- no joke! The entire event went off without a hitch other than some wardrobe malfunctions that had nothing to do with the Belle. Lastly, as a vegan, I was told that vegan food was possible, and the chef made some amazing dishes and at the price point that worked for my budget. Several omnivores mentioned they loved the food, especially the gnocchi with the squash and coconut cream sauce - that dish was a home run. I honestly can't think of anything to criticize. I will recommend this venue to friends . It was lovely getting married outside of this gorgeous Victorian house that is impeccably maintained both inside and out. Then the grounds surrounding are just beautiful. Even in October, there were hydrangeas and other flowers in bloom, which provided a lot of color and beauty. Because of the sheer beauty of the venue, I spent next to nothing on decor; it just wasn't necessary. Control freak or not, this venue will take care of your needs, wishes, desires, etc as long as you keep an open line of communication. Thank you Joe, Jade, and other staff for making my wedding day a fun, non-stressful day where I could just enjoy myself and my guests. Reviewed on 15-12-2017

Jade and Jessica also helped during the reception to fulfill our vision of the evening. The catering is all in house and the food was delicious! Jeff helped us cater to a number of guests with allergies or vegan preferences. The grounds are beautiful as is and nearly everything is included from linens to tables and dishes (we did end up renting a tent in addition). Shannon Morey(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 15-05-2016 FYI---- I was nervous reading the previous reviews about the Queen Anne Victorian Mansion when we went to look at the place. It has a new name, The Victorian Belle, because it is under completely different ownership and these people are ROCKSTARS. We can't say enough nice things about the Victorian Belle and the staff there. From the beginning, Joe and Laura made us feel so welcome and at home. Through the whole experience they were quick to respond and make us feel reassured in our nerves pre-wedding. We actually had a whole plan in place to do the wedding fully outdoors and utilize the gorgeous venue completely. However, due to this bi-polar Portland weather, it ended up raining the weekend of our wedding and we had to change plans. Laura was quick to do so and reassured us throughout. We were so nervous but they made us feel like everything would be AMAZING, and it was. :) This venue is gorgeous and our guests have told me how wonderful it was over and over again. The wrap around porch was perfect to host our bar. They even included smores in our package when we booked, which made a fun addition to our dessert table! The chef was wonderful, creating dairy free pasta for us that was beyond delicious. Our guests left raving about the food! So good (even if I only got a few bites between talking to people). The house itself has the best hangout spaces to get ready. We wish we could have utilized it even more than we did, as it gets pricey to add on extra hours to hang out there in the morning, but the time that we did have was perfect. The space for the ladies to get ready was spacious, as well as the grooms quarters! They even have a pool table in the groom's quarters. I was jealous. Haha. The guys said they had fun up there waiting for us to get ready. I appreciated that the men's and women's spaces were separated so we couldn't see each other until we were ready. All the architecture and design of the Victorian Belle made beautiful pictures, and those cafe lights hung throughout the venue were a dream. The staff is so friendly and quick to make you feel at home. Joe and Laura took full interest in our wedding, and in us as people. They aren't just there to do business, but to do it well and with so much heart. I literally can't say enough about our experience here. It was a dream and we would recommend it to anyone looking for a venue in North Portland that is right off the freeway but feels like a secluded wonderland when you step in. Thanks guys! We SO SO SO appreciate you making our wedding that much more wonderful. Reviewed on 26-05-2016
Kristyn DeFouw(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 16-04-2016 We chose The Victorian Belle for it's unique & beautiful atmosphere as well as the great location in Portland. We were also very excited that they cook all their own food onsite (current chef used to work at Portland City Grill), they have their own day of coordinator, the gazebo & walkway are covered (just incase it rained) and all linens (with different color options for napkins), tables, white chairs, glasses, plates etc. are included. With such a beautiful location I only needed a handful of decorations! Which makes wedding planning so much easier. Both Joe & Laura were very responsive with all the questions I had during the process and sent emails to remind me when certain decisions had to be made. They were ROCKSTARS on the day of the wedding and made sure everything went smoothly. I did not have one thing to worry about! There were things I didn't even ask them to do but they just got it done. This was extremely helpful as I was able to experience my wedding day stress free and soak it all up.The FOOD! It was simply delicious. Do not pass up on the shrimp & fruit cup appetizer and the mac 'n cheese. The salmon and chicken were perfectly cooked and not dry at all. The vegetables were fresh. The salads had a great combination of flavors. The chef truly takes a lot of pride in his work. Also, they let you take the leftovers home! They do not let anything go to waste.I HIGHLY recommend The Victorian Belle for any special event. They provide a truly unique and beautiful experience that we will treasure for the rest of our lives.p.s. There is a pool table in the grooms room. At every other establishment I visited the groom kind of gets forgotten, but not here. They have a fantastic area to hang out in while getting dressed and waiting for the festivities to begin. Jennifer Brewer(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-08-2012 The owner (Deb) of the Queen Anne Victorian Mansion (QAVM) is dishearteningly unbearable to work with. I wish we had seen the numerous bad reviews prior to booking the QAVM for our wedding as we would have taken a much different approach to working with Deb through the process. It’s unfortunate that the experience with Deb is this excruciatingly painful as the grounds are so beautiful and provide a wonderful atmosphere for what could be a dream wedding. Every person in our wedding party that interacted with her (even the nicest, sweetest of our friends/family who were determined to “win-her-over” and have a positive interaction no matter what) have commented on how horrible she was to work with.\r\rI don’t feel it’s necessary to detail out everything that went wrong, but overall this is what we experienced: \r\r1.\tRules change frequently depending on Deb’s mood. One day or minute she will tell you one thing and the next day/minute her rules have already changed. The contact was merely a “loose guideline” and several “house rules” made an appearance throughout the process that we didn’t know about initially (and always seemed to serve Deb’s wavering habits).\r\r2.\tDeb is extremely unprofessional in written and verbal correspondence. I’m still flabbergasted by some of the things she thought were alright to write/say to me, our family, our friends, and our guests. She is also unreliable in responses to questions/inquiries. It took several follow-up attempts and often would take weeks to get an answer.\r\r3.\tDeb is over controlling. We had to describe in miniscule detail every minor thing we wanted to do with decorations, etc. Her reaction to our normal plans was oddly irregular and improper. Without being there the day of to decorate, we wouldn’t ultimately know in detail what would look best or what decisions would need to be made. These were merely ideas for our decorating team to utilize. \r \r4.\tThe inclusion of their “wedding coordinator” was one of the selling pieces for us at the mansion. However, we were actually forbidden to correspond with her until the rehearsal dinner or day of our wedding. We were also told the coordinator couldn’t make any decisions. It is hard to properly prepare a coordinator that you can’t talk to before the event. (The coordinator was actually very nice.)\r\r5.\tAlthough the grounds are overall beautiful, the white fences are moldy and the roofs of the house, gazebos, and white tents are covered in a plethora of debris which is highly unattractive. \r\r6.\tSeveral items that were discussed and agreed upon to happen on the day of the wedding, DIDN’T. Deb is very unorganized and items had to be discussed/answered multiple times. \r\rAs a bride/groom, you want your experience with your vendors to be precise, easy, and stress free. This portion of our wedding experience added SO much stress it was horrendous! The only way we could handle it was with help from our friends and family who shielded us from Deb’s craziness (oh the stories we have heard afterwards…). \rIf you are set on having the QAVM as your wedding venue – PLEASE proceed with caution and be sure to have EVERYTHING in writing. Be prepared to be very flexible as Deb changes her mind frequently and it will put wrenches into your plans (even on the day of your wedding). Please learn from our experience – it will at least be something positive that comes from it! Reviewed on 17-10-2012

While I was waiting for my dad to come get me to walk down the isle (minutes before I was to be married) Deb the owner chose this time to approach me about hard alcohol in my dressing room. So instead of me walking down the isle excited to see my soon to be husband I was telling my dad about what happened, super stressed. She took my moment away from me and I will never get it back...I think about it daily. I have never in my life wrote a review but I just cant get over this. Now I will say maybe she did previously tell me no alcohol was allowed BUT my Bridesmaids did bring it in AND it was the last thing on my mind!! Deb should not have approached me before walking down the isle...she could have found a better time or just talked to my wedding party NOT the bride. \r\rI also had the worst coordinator assigned, I cant remember her name because I really never spoke with her. (Purple hair is all I remember) Can not for the life of me figure out what it is she does?? But returning calls/texts was not part of her job since she has a day job and made it clear I was not a priority! Thank god for an awesome DJ that did her job for her!! He made sure everything was taking care of including making sure we (bride/Groom) ate and kept asking if I needed anything. BTW..Frank from Bust a Move is the BEST DJ ever and made my wedding!!! \r\rWe met with Deb a week before our wedding to discuss what we wanted and I am not sure why since she didn't listen to a thing we said. We wanted the over flow seating in the yard so when people came late it wouldnt interupt the wedding but when I walked down the isle she had out the seats in the ISLE ouside the gazebo (looked way TACKY)! She didn't have the beers at the bar we requested INCLUDING the GROOMS favorite beer (that he had been drinking in his room getting ready). Also the bar RAN out of beer at our wedding...so no one could order beer the last 1 1/2 hr of the wedding. A few other things: We were suppose to have unlimited lemonaid but we never saw that. The glass was not suppose to be in the Gazebo but it was. No one was suppose to be allowed up into my room and Deb said she would make sure of that...and Sooo many guests made there way up and saw me in my dress before walking down the isle a couple even saw me in my bra while getting ready. Grrrr...I could go on but I am just getting upset thinking about it. Good Luck to you Bride's if you get married here. Watch out for Deb and Purple hair!!\r Reviewed on 18-09-2011
Emily Arnell(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 18-08-2011 Overall, I was very very pleased to have our wedding reception here. The grounds are simply stunning. It is so beautiful there. It makes for a photographer's heaven, there are so many photo opportunities. The house is so charming with all of its victorian details. The white gazebo made it absolutely amazing. I believe it's an 42 ft gazebo so it can be used for multiple things (wedding ceremony, dinner, or dancing). Since we got married somewhere else, we used it for dancing and it was very nice. One of the major things I liked about this venue was even though it was very pretty naturally, Deb (owner) will let you come out and decorate. It was nice to be able to go on the property and add a personal touch (special for our wedding).\rThe reception dinner was set up outside and the food was really good! :) We had pasta with red and white sauces, garlic bread and salad. It was a simple dish but very good (since it was hot outside).\rDeb (the owner of the place) is very nice. She was VERY helpful and did whatever she could to make our day amazing. Once it got closer to the wedding, she will have a day of wedding coordinator to help everything stay on schedule. Depending on the time of year, I know this place books up. My one negative thing I would have to say is because we had our reception at such a busy time of the year, sometimes it would take her a while to get back to me via email/phone. However, when the day came, everything was amazing and simply PERFECT! :) Reviewed on 08-09-2011
Janelle Torres(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-07-2011 It was just what we wanted when we booked the place but the owner is a little strange and she has promised that the trim was going to be redone with the same colors but wasn't...She didn't listen to much of what I said I wanted for the day of which was upsetting but the place it's self was beautiful. Just wish I didn't have to deal with the owner. Reviewed on 21-08-2011
Angela Garcia(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 31-07-2011 The QAVM was great. The house and the courtyard suited my garden wedding theme. I made a lot of my own decorations for the day, so it add a wonderful personal touch. If you leave it to them to do your decorations you will get just that plain and simple. Deb the owner was great to us and let me create my own vision. The food was good and Kiki our coordinator was on point and friendly. I had the most amazing wedding there, you just have to be willing to do some extra work. Reviewed on 18-08-2011
Rhiannon Ylvisaker(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 01-03-2016 The antiquity of the house, the well maintained yard, the details - all of it was incredible! Theere are so many lights, and it creates wonderful photos. Deb - the owner - was absolutely fabulous and worked with us more than any other person probably would have! The food was prepared by Deb, and was amazing! We had it the next morning too, before our flight, and I couldn't have asked for a better \"breakfast\" :). You cannot find a better value for your money either - if you only have 100 people like we did, you can do a wedding for under 7500 - and that is for an evening ceremony! I can't wait to be there at a special anniversary to celebrate all over again! Reviewed on 30-05-2011

Tamari Kakhadze(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 12-09-2010 We visited just about every Victorian Mansion in Portland and nearby areas and found this one to best fit our vision and the bill. They are a tad cheaper than others when it comes to the rental of the venue and catering. It will be worth your while to make an appointment to get a tour and information on their prices and services so that you can compare them with other places you're considering. They have their own catering that you have to use, but the food is actually really good. Also, they charge 15% gratuity instead of 17%-20% that I've seen while hunting for venues. This place is very well decorated and they have some simple centerpieces you can use - so if you want to spend little to no money on decorations, this place will accommodate you. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and they really try to work with you. Now, we did get an extra $20 tacked on to our bill because someone snuck in a flask of whiskey, so warn your friends/family (or just don't get caught). The rental of the venue includes 6 hours and you'll have to pay about $200-$300 per hour for additional time, so if you have a vision of getting ready there and taking hours of photos at the venue, expect your budget to hike. Hidden fees: $300 mandatory cleaning fee; 15% mandatory food and alcohol gratuity; $100 optional rehearsal; $200-$300 per additional hour that's beyond 6 hours - but to tell you the truth, every venue has those \"hidden fees\" so read your packet carefully before you make any decisions no matter who you decide to go with. I paid total about 5-6K to this venue for 95 guests which did not include a dress rehearsal, we only did 1 entree meal (it was plenty of food), our wedding was on a Sunday which was cheaper and we didn't go over our allocated 6 hours. Overall, if I had to do my wedding over again, I would still pick this place. Reviewed on 29-10-2010
