The Woodlands at Algonkian Reviews
Christina Zapatero(other)5 out of 5 Rating
My husband and I LOVED working with The Woodlands! Not only is the location beautiful, our wedding planning was not nearly as stressful as it could have been and we attribute it to all of the staff working at The Woodlands. Our main point of contacts were Gabrielle and Holly and they were so lovely and helpful the entire planning process. They answered all of our questions with ease and were so incredibly accommodating. Our guests raved about the food from Great Blue Heron Catering services! There were so many options for everyone (everyone raved about the Filet Mignon). I myself am a vegetarian and we had a few vegans attend and everything was absolutely delicious! The kitchen staff and bartenders the day of the wedding were wonderful as well! We highly recommend booking The Woodlands! Reviewed on 08-11-2023

We had the honor to work with the team at The Woodlands on a style shoot to showcase their renovated ballroom space. Gabrielle and Holly were accommodating and great to work with during the pre planning process and day of production. They went above and beyond to work with their internal team to make sure we had all the items we need for the overall look and presentation. The Woodlands has amazing locations for great photo opportunities. Highly recommended venue with great service! Reviewed on 24-07-2023
Alyssa DeGrace(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 19-03-2023 We were absolutely thrilled with our wedding at Woodlands at Algonkian. It's a perfect setting for a wedding of about 75-100 and at a reasonable price. We all fit comfortably and the built-in dancefloor had ample space for everyone to party. The outdoor and indoor spaces were perfect for us and the many trees and flowers really made for a beautiful natural backdrop. Our guests couldn't stop talking about how beautiful the lights and fireplace were, not to mention the food from Great Blue Heron which was beyond our expectations. They executed our curated menu items to perfection. We are so fortunate to have found this venue and recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxed, natural, and elegant venue. Reviewed on 22-03-2023

Casey Holderbaum(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 30-10-2021 This was the first and only venue we saw - we loved the location, how we could have the ceremony/cocktail hour/reception all in one place, the option to use the in-house caterer... and the price is very reasonable for this area and for all the value you get! The outdoor ceremony space is beautiful on it's own, but there are so many options to make it unique and special to you. We had ~100 people attend the wedding, which in the space felt comfortable as we wanted something more intimate so we could spend time with everybody (not too packed, not too sparse). I think 200 people in there would feel tight, that would be my only comment for future brides. The other amazing thing is the Woodlands provided their recommended vendors, and pretty much everyone we booked was from that list. It was so helpful! We also loved that we had access to a Bridal Suite for folks to get ready, it made the whole process so easy. Laura was fantastic to work with - they were incredibly flexible with us and responsive! We also booked out nearly all of the cabins for the weekend, and the staff was very responsive for all of the questions we had around that process/getting everyone situated in their cabins. We used their in-house caterer (Great Blue Heron) and the food was PHENOMAL - people were raving about it! We highly recommend booking your wedding here and working with Laura and the team! Jessie Ferrari(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 02-10-2021 We could not have been happier with how everything turned out at The Woodlands for our big day. The fact that the ceremony was right next to the reception space was fantastic and made things much easier for our guests. It also is very close to Dulles airport which is convenient for everyone traveling. I know some couples do not place the logistics of a wedding venue for their guests high on the priority list, but this was an important component to us. The property is beautiful, and high ceilings inside the reception space with large window wall really opened everything up. The bridal suite was newly renovated, which made for a great space for us to get ready the day of. Laura, Jasmine, Liz and the onsite team (shout out to DJ for everything she did to help our reception flow smoothly) were fantastic to work with. They always promptly responded to my questions. COVID made the final few weeks challenging with changes in RSVPs, causing us to try and fill spots, and they always helped us make adjustments with a smile. We did not have a day of coordinator, but rather a family friend who helped, and Laura was SO helpful the day of to help get everything ready. The food was fantastic, and Liz was very accommodating of the tweaks we requested to our menu, including with alcohol. The venue itself was also very affordable for the Northern Virginia area. Originally during my search, many places only included the reception space, and not items like tables/chairs/linens. While we needed to pay for linens, Laura/Liz took care of coordinating it all for us and the price was reasonable for these. We feel very fortunate that we found The Woodlands! Reviewed on 29-10-2021

We wanted to have Nicecream cater at our wedding and Laura willingly coordinated with them regarding logistics. Laura was our coordinator from the venue and truly could not have been more pleasant to work with! She was extremely responsive, kind, and flexible as we navigated COVID changes and was so helpful throughout the whole process. I was a little nervous about the bridal room being too small but on the day of, with 7 people getting hair and make up done, it didn't feel that way at all! Laura kindly let us use the Fairfax room across the hall as a secondary getting ready area where we had lunch, which was perfect. We had our wedding outside under the pergola on a spectacularly beautiful dayy, and walking down the aisle there was such a memorable moment. (It is a sidewalk path, so you can wear heels!) They had an outdoor fire pit and a corn hole set that guests could enjoy outside as well. The indoor space for getting ready as well as the main reception area are stunning. It is definitely worth taking a tour; you will not regret it! While we were initially attracted to working with an outside catering company, we actually changed our minds after we were able to meet and work with the chef of Blue Heron Catering to make our perfect dinner for guests- a DIY taco bar! We are still getting compliments from guests on the delicious tacos and appetizers at our wedding that were such a nice change from the norm. The main chef made us custom salsas too- yum!! The venue is perfect for a wedding : we had our ceremony outside in a beautiful setting just in front of the reception space. The guests just need to walk a few steps inside for the cocktail hour and then the reception. The bridal suite is also great to get ready with big mirrors, sinks, private bathroom. Just take a few steps outside to take some great pictures next to the golf course with big trees and even some deers if you are lucky. The dancefloor is great too! We dropped of the decoration in the bridal suite the evening before and when we arrived on the morning for the hair and makeup preparation, everything was already set up perfectly on the tables. When the day-of coordinator noticed that the cake was not decorated with flowers, she didn't know but asked me right away and then promptly called the florist who had just left to come back. When the steamer broke and my bridesmaid couldn't finish to steam her dress, Ashley went out to buy a new one! We got back our security deposit two weeks after the event. Most of our guests stayed at the nearby cottages and really enjoyed their stay, we also had a catered BBQ the next day at one of the camping shelter and it was a lot of fun. We really relied on her a lot to keep things running smoothly and she made all the difference in the world.\r\rThe cottages were great both b/c they were cheaper than hotels (if they're mostly full) and it gave us a chance to spend more time with our guests. The free waterpark and mini-golf was a bonus too.\r\rThe only downsides are that it is pricier than we would have liked (certainly not more expensive than other comparable venues, but still not cheap), and the in-house caterer was very disorganized. They were very friendly and accommodating, but couldn't keep track of things like sending us a contract, keeping track of payments we'd sent, etc. Dealing with Blue Heron (the caterer) was definitely one of the more stressful aspects of the wedding. They did mean really well and we really appreciated them putting in extra effort to make our wedding as \"green\" as possible, but getting the administrative details taken care of was like pulling teeth.\r\rHowever, in the end the event was wonderful and our guests loved everything about it.
