The Formal Gardens were constructed in 1931 by George F. and Stella Elkins Tyler to provide a formal landscape setting for their estate, Indian Council Rock. The four-tier Formal Gardens were influenced by French and Italian gardens and feature varieties of flora, beautiful lush lawns, dramatic stone walls and staircases, gravel walks, fountains, and bronze sculptures.

As soon as I saw it (even though it was covered in snow) I knew it was where I wanted our wedding. It was absolutely beautiful and the guests couldn’t have said better things. So much greenery and guests are able to explore each tier. Reviewed on 30-05-2022
Saya Jacob(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 11-09-2021 Tyler Gardens is one of the most gorgeous outdoor venues there is. The tiered gardens are just unbeatable. A few tips to be aware of if you are booking this vendor:1. In Fall of 2021 there was construction affecting the normal entrance (top tier of the gardens) so that guests had to enter on the second tier. Still beautiful but not the absolute best way to get your first impression of the gardens. to counteract that, we had our cocktail hour on the first tier so guests had to go up (though this was extra $$ and discussed with the caterers)2. Don't forget to request that the fountains get turned on!3. The venue requires that the reception ends at 10 which is a little early. We started our cocktail hour early to count act this but it is a definite downside. 4. Open Aire Affairs does charge a fee of $28 per person in addition to the venue costs, caterer costs, etc. It is unclear why an entire $28 is needed since as far as we can tell, the only thing done by the staff on that day is setting up the tables and chairs. Everything else, including linens/place settings/cocktail tables, are set up by the caterer.Even with these things, I have absolutely NO REGRETs. It was an incredible wedding venue and one of the most beautiful ones I have ever been to! Reviewed on 27-09-2021
Christina Whitlock(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 02-11-2019 Tyler Gardens was the first and last venue we looked for our wedding reception. The gardens and tent are absolutely gorgeous! Open Aire Affairs, especially Amanda, were wonderful to work with. Amanda answered all of my (many) questions throughout the planning process and made me feel at ease leading up to our big day. Two days before our wedding there were tornados that touched down nearby. The next day Amanda drove to Tyler Gardens herself to assure me that the tent was perfectly fine and no trees had damaged the gardens for our day. The tent is enormous and easily fit our 120 guests, food stations, additional tables, and dance floor. The patio and fire pit were an awesome perk as well! Keep in mind that if you do choose to have your reception at Tyler Gardens, consider having a day of coordinator to help since Open Aire Affairs is only responsible for the venue and any upgrades you choose; NOT for day of coordination. Open Aire Affairs does provide a wonderful list of preferred vendors (caterers, wedding planners, photographers, etc.). The venue itself is truly breathtaking and if you’re looking for a gorgeous, elegant, garden style venue look no further! Reviewed on 11-11-2019

When my daughter decided to get married, I was thrilled to know that the beautiful grounds at Tyler Park had been turned into a spectacular wedding venue by a company named Open Aire Affairs. We met with a young woman, Rae, to get the details, and knew immediately that this was the place for us! She guided us through the planning process with ease and had exciting new ideas on how to compliment my daughter’s vision of her perfect day. The wedding was spectacular! Rae and her efficient staff guided us through, and our plans became a reality. I would highly recommend Open Aire Affairs if you are planning an outdoor wedding. Reviewed on 30-11-2018

The entire experience working with OAA was a pleasure , with making so many decisions and not having any idea where to start Amanda was great. Mazie Contreras(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 16-06-2018 Our wedding was June, 2018. Tyler Gardens was absolutely beautiful and we couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful day. The gardens were in full bloom, the fountains were on. The tent, bridal suite and restrooms were clean when we arrived. The process of booking and working with Open Aire Affairs (OAA) went smoothly. Our first meeting was a walk-through of the Gardens, the second meeting was at Newtown Rentals, where we chose our glassware and linens. To be clear, the rentals are not included in the price and end up being an additional invoice (around $2,000, we specifically asked about this, I think some brides might end up surprised by this bill, since it wasn’t clearly spelled out in the initial meeting). We worked with Amanda and she was able to answer our questions and concerns. For instance, we were worried about the lighting. OAA added more lighting to the tent and staircases so our guests were able to see as they were leaving. We found it easiest to think of OAA as a rental space only. They didn’t help with any of the rehearsal or day-of coordination (this wasn’t made clear when we first met with them. I figured this out through their long list of bad reviews). You, your wedding planner and your caterer will have to do the work of making sure that the site is set up and decorated to your specifications. We would highly suggest discussing this with your caterer or hiring a day-of wedding planner. We used Joseph’s Premier Event Catering; owner Joe Garvey advised us on rentals and offered many helpful hints to keep costs down while having an elegant party. He did a fantastic job with the set-up and take-down (in addition to serving the most delicious scallops ever!) He made sure that everything ran smoothly and we were able to set up our tables and lock up our belongings before the rehearsal. He’s the real deal.Although the site claims handicapped accessibility, that is not completely the case. Check out the site, keeping in mind your guests’ needs, as the various levels of the gardens are not accessible to wheel chairs. Handicapped guests need to plan to be dropped off at the kitchen level to enter the party. The restrooms are handicapped accessible. We ran into issues two days before the wedding. Event insurance must be purchased at an additional cost of about $500. We had reviewed our insurance with OAA and given them copies of the policy a few months prior to the wedding. On the Thursday morning before the wedding, we received a call from Amanda asking where our insurance forms were, then advising that the insurance was incorrect and the wedding might have to be canceled. She didn’t answer her phone or email the rest of the night. Needless to say, it was a very stressful and sleepless night for us and our parents. My parents went over to OAA first thing Friday morning to point out that had the correct insurance and that OAA had misread the form. We were disappointed that there was no apology and they brushed it off like it didn’t happen. So here’s my advice – book it, it’s the most beautiful venue ever, but pay attention to all the details, read your contracts twice and note anything that doesn’t make sense. Stay on top of OAA! And book Joseph’s Premier Event Catering! Reviewed on 02-10-2018
Alicia McGinley(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 15-09-2018 My husband and I are extremely disappointed with our experience with Open Aire Affairs (not Tyler Gardens itself, but the coordinators who “run” the weddings there.) If you expect ANY kind of help, guidance, or communication, RUN now. My first issue was something so simple yet so frustrating and disrespectful. They could NOT spell my name right in our emails - even after I had to correct them 5x. (Not to mention I sign my name in every email lol). Usually I don’t care if someone mispronounces or misspells my name, but they kept spelling it incorrectly on the contracts which was infuriating. It wasn’t until I called and told them how much of a slap in the face it was that they FINALLY corrected it, of course after blaming it on autocorrect - that’s laughable considering I brought it to their attention at least 4 times. Second, expect to pay a LOT for pretty much nothing. They charge $4,000 JUST for the grounds. On top of that, they charge $38 per person JUST for tables and chairs. So expect to pay over $10k. Everything else is extra - string lights, tent fabric, etc. We were aware of the cost going in, but we expected some sort of help with coordinating things and we got absolutely NO help. Rae, who is in charge of Open Aire Affairs, specifically told us she would be present during our rehearsal at the venue as well as for an hour the day before our wedding but Rae never showed up either day, and when we called - no answer. I finally got in touch with the other coordinator Amanda who said Rae had family coming in from SC so that’s why she probably wasn’t answering me. That’s extremely poor business and NO excuse to completely ignore your clients who are paying you almost $15k for NOTHING. The night before the wedding we dropped off our decorations - like Rae told us to - and the tent didn’t lock. There was not one person from OAA there’s, specifically Rae. There were groups of people trying to get inside (it’s public) with NO kind of security. We had hundreds of dollars worth of decor inside the tent & didn’t feel comfortable leaving it, so we had to run out and buy a bike lock to lock the tent!! What a joke. I emailed both Amanda and Rae to let them know people were trying to get inside the tent and they never responded. All they want is your money and have not a care in the world for their clients. They’re in the wrong business. Be warned !!! Reviewed on 24-09-2018

annie de la rosa(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 04-10-2019 I'm very disappointed in Tyler Gardens. My husband and I were extremely happy to get married there, the place its just beautiful and hearing the water running in the fountains made me feel in a different place. the day my husband and I made the decision was basically because I wanted the whole experience of a garden with the water running from the fountains was giving to the garden. we got married on july 4th and I was looking forward to getting married there. but oh surprise!!! as I was walking down to meet my husband I realized there was no water running :( , I was very dissapointed and my husband reached out to them to see if they could to turn them on at least to have them in the pictures, but they anwser was \" they arent working\". we talked to them 2 days prior the weeding asking us to pay for insurance for the garden but didnt have the time to tell us that the water wasnt working?? to me this is just very sad and we had other complains about the service but I didnt give that much importance because all I wanted was the FOUNTAINS TO BE WORKING FOR MY WEDDING DAY. we paid a LOT for only 2 1/2 hours and they didnt even care about running the fountains for all we had to pay. John Smith(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 04-10-2019 Yes, the grounds are beautiful but Open Aire Affairs is TERRIBLE1. I'll start with this one. We threw some petals down the isle for the ceremony, and obviously had every intention of cleaning up. One of my guests asked if we could come back later to get them up, and the staff (not too friendly) said no. So on this almost 100 degree day there was my mom and my guests scrambling to pick up petals within the time frame Open Air Affairs gave us. How does this happen at a place I am paying so much money for?2. Next, it was almost 100 degrees and we were really surprised and disappointed that the mansion/building was not open. How couldwe be paying so much money and not have a building for our guests to at least feel comfortable for a few minutes in the insane heat?We were under the impression this was part of the experience. The mansion was locked and the little tent out back for receptions is hot and muggy. Thanks for the portable bathroom with AC in it though?3. Also, one of the coolest things to us about the gardens was the running water out of statues that are there. We were really looking forward to getting pictures and having that experience in the background of our wedding. To our surprise there were no fountains running water. When we visited the gardens the water was running beautifully, and the running water plays a big role in the vibes of the gardens.Don't even know why the water was off, but they could have let us know. You might be reading this and thinking I am over-reacting, but this was my wedding day. More importantly, this was my wife's day. We werea pretty simple party. But there were absolutely no accommodations made to us on this special day. Worse than that, the experience w/ Open Aire Affairs was just terrible and disappointing. Reviewed on 04-08-2018
Ellen Boyer(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 16-09-2017 We were the first wedding at Tyler Gardens, and although I was nervous about being the first one, the staff did a wonderful job fixing kinks and working on the fly when the deluge started right after the ceremony.
