Located in the heart of St. Paul, MN, Union Depot - St. Paul, MN is a historic venue that hosts weddings and special events. As a former railway station, this property offers a genuine one-of-a-kind setting for nuptial celebrations. Carefully renovated to provide modern amenities while retaining its original features and charm, this building is a true starting point for your adventure together.
Union Depot - St. Paul, MN dates back to the early 1900s. It was commissioned in 1913 to replace the original station which had been destroyed in a fire. Completed in 1926, this property boasts a neoclassical style of architecture. Awe-inspiring columns wrap around the building facade, providing a spectacular backdrop for wedding photos. The main event space, which previously acted as a Waiting Room, boasts a vaulted curved ceiling and polished marble floors. This area can accommodate up to 1,000 guests for a seated banquet-style meal, and up to 3,000 for a cocktail reception. If you are hosting a more intimate event, you can choose from a range of smaller yet equally elegant spaces, such as The Veteran’s Gallery. This classic space acted as a private area for military personnel passing through the station. While each room in this property boasts a rich and varied history, it also offers a choice of captivating outdoor locations for alfresco celebrations.
Union Depot - St. Paul, MN partners with local caterers to provide a variety of food options. Inquire today to receive our list of preferred caterers. This venue can also offer couples a list of recommended vendors for additional embellishment such as event management, media, and decorations.
Devyn, Dresden, and Valerie did a great job for our wedding. Communication was never an issue, they all responded fast, and were clear in their instructions for us. They have a great list of caterers as well. They knew the venue well (which helped the DJ) too. Weddings are stressful, but they without a doubt made the process a lot easier for us. Thank you for all the help and to Dresden for the sweet gift given to us. Reviewed on 20-09-2023

From the time we were researching reception venues, Union Depot was a top choice for us - my now husband and I were specifically looking for historic venues in St Paul that are naturally beautiful and wouldn't require decoration. We are so glad that this was the final choice! Nicholas and team were excellent to work with - accommodating, communicative, and just down right lovely people. I can't imagine working with a better team. We received so many compliments on the lovely space and how unique it was. My husband and I are so excited to return for the yearly tree lighting and Christmas market and remember this night fondly. I also can't believe the value received in our package with UD- my bridal party AND vendors were so happy and impressed with the getting ready suite! And they also couldn't believe how it wasn't an extra cost! Reviewed on 17-08-2023

This is a Mother of the Bride Review.Nicholas Moll and Valerie Condon were our Wedding Coordinators at St. Paul's Union Depot. They were the most professional and nicest vendors I have ever worked with and it was a joy to talk to Nicholas in those last few weeks before the wedding as he was as engaged and excited as me and my daughter were about the wedding. The transformation of the vast Waiting Room into our wedding reception was perfect. Their list of preferred vendors was very nice to have and the DJ and Caterer and Florist we chose from those lists all did an Excellent job.Nicholas and Valerie were always available by phone and email and helped us with all the minor details like getting parking for all of our guests, directional signage, seating arrangements and last minute changes. The giant games that come with the rental were a hit and enjoyed by old and young alike. The rooms upstairs for the Bride and Groom and their bridal party were beyond compare. The space was huge with large windows to let in lots of light while they were getting ready for the wedding. The wedding party had access to those rooms all through out the reception, just in case they needed to put their feet up and rest a bit. We all, on the bride's side are from St. Paul, and we were very proud of St. Paul and the Gorgeous Union Depot that day. Reviewed on 25-07-2023

We are so happy we went with Union Depot, St Paul for our wedding venue. The venue itself is an iconic beautiful landmark that requires minimal decor. The wedding package also comes with lots of features and options from a large open concept that allowed flexibility to design a layout of our choice to drapes, chairs, and table selections as well as a dedicated on site Facility Coordinator. Valerie, our UD Facility Coordinator, was also amazing. She is professional, organized, thorough, and pleasant to work with through my planning process. Her Team went above and beyond to ensure the layout was prompt from setup to tear down for the day of my wedding. There is a slight draw back to sharing the facility with the public but not a big issue as you will have security guards onsite. Reviewed on 10-07-2023
Jesse Taylor(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 01-10-2022 We are so happy that we had our wedding at the Union Depot this October. There are so many things to love about it - the friendly and very help venue staff you work with (Devyn and Felicity were amazing!), the absolutely beautiful space, the convenience being in downtown St. Paul with nice hotels right across the street and uniqueness of getting married in an historic and still functioning train depot. We feel so lucky to have chosen the Depot for our wedding. Devyn was so helpful from the beginning helping us plan the layout, working with our vendors and then being there day of to make sure everything was coordinated smoothly. We also had a slightly smaller wedding (around 110) and the space is huge, but the way they can break up the space is perfect for smaller weddings too. We never felt like the space was too big for our size. And you don't need too many decorations because the interior is so gorgeous. I highly recommend the Union Depot for your wedding! Our biggest want for our wedding party was to have the ceremony and reception at the same venue, and it was so easy to do that here! The space is HUGE so it did not feel crowded at all. Devyn was our venue coordinator who helped us with the layout and she made it so easy! She was so helpful and it was great to have her around. I definitely recommend this historical venue, it is such an amazing place for an amazing price! The team we worked with made everything exactly how we wanted and did it with ease. They were great communicators and made every wish a reality. We worked closely with Afton towards the end of the planning and she was absolutely wonderful and helped execute our day to perfection. Our ceremony was gorgeous with the afternoon sun coming through the windows of the waiting room. The venue was big enough for us to have different areas for ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. The food from Breaking Bread was so so good and our guests raved about it as it’s sometimes hard to find good wedding food. Overall the price was very affordable. The venue fee and food was much cheaper than you would find other places and the venue decor is completely customizable which made it cheaper for us. Our wedding was absolutely beautiful--we were able to keep our decor simple (and less expensive!) because the Waiting Room is gorgeous all on its own. We got many compliments from our guests about it! It was also nice not to have to worry about renting and coordinating setup/takedown of chairs and tables. Natalie T(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 13-04-2019 Union Depot saved our wedding day! When April flooding along the Mississippi River closed our planned dream venue of Harriet Island Pavilion, the staff there graciously pointed us in the direction of Union Depot. We made a call to Dawn and met with her, Grace, and Cassie - and with their help were able to reconfigure our wedding in less than a month! We opted to have all of our wedding events - ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception - in the Waiting Room at Union Depot (which not only simplified the planning process and made it easier for our guests to go from one event to the next but also helped us stay within our budget.) Even though our total guest count was on the smaller side (~ 118), they were able to split the large room into different sections using black curtains so the space never felt empty. The historic building itself, with cream brick, high ceilings, and beautiful architecture, fit perfectly with our plan of minimalistic decor. Our guests had plenty of space both at their tables and on the dance floor, were able to park in nearby lots (and didn't have to pay themselves since we were able to purchase and distribute parking vouchers through the Depot), and didn't have to travel far from hotels in downtown St. Paul (we stayed at Hotel 340 and had a great experience). Union Depot even had a ping pong table we were able to use for the reception, which was a hit!All in all, we had a GREAT experience with Union Depot and are so grateful for all of the help they provided to make our wedding day as amazing as it was. Dawn, Grace, and Cassie were all top-notch in their customer service, promptness, thoroughness, and friendliness. 10/10 recommend this venue for those looking for a Twin Cities venue! The space is absolutely stunning, you need very little decor, and so expansive! We used the space for the ceremony and reception; we were able to fit a stage, dance floor, game area, photo booth area, let alone the tables, bar and dessert area – with room to spare. If you use the Waiting Room for the ceremony, be cognizant of when the sun shines through the windows, albeit gorgeous, there was sun beaming in the guests eyes for the short ceremony (some donned their shades due to it). Loved the get-ready rooms and their locale, and we had SO many photo-ops throughout the entire Depot. 10/10 would recommend to future brides and grooms! Reviewed on 18-06-2020

Carly L(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 14-09-2019 We had our wedding there last month and loved it! We were in the Waiting Room. That room is gorgeous and spacious and it helped our day flow so easily by having ceremony, reception, and dance all in the same location. Guests also loved the venue and were appreciative that everything was all in one place as well. The wedding coordinators (shout-out Grace!) were very helpful and thorough and we felt prepared as the day arrived. Dawn was very responsive and met with us very shortly after we reached out and expressed interest in the venue. You do have to work with Crave catering and are also encouraged to choose from preferred vendors for other things (such as decor you want professionally set up). That was mostly fine, and we were able to find things within our budget and vision, and any issues we had with those vendors doesn’t reflect on Union Depot. All in all, Union Depot is a beautiful, historic venue in a convenient location with ample space and parking, and should be toured by any couple looking to have a wedding of any size! We initially worked with Dawn to get started, then Grace took over our event and they were both fantastic! Grace was so accommodating with all of our concerns and questions. They offered security at a very reasonable rate, which we accepted and that was it. All we had to do was make the payment and they took care of the rest. Grace also had us talk with Dan at Union Depot to work out a parking situation for our wedding and it couldn't have been easier. We covered our guests parking and all we had to do was tell Dan about how many vouchers we needed and again... they took care of the rest. Angela B(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 14-11-2018 Wow! Union Depot was truly an incredible event venue to have our 178 person wedding this past year. After looking at numerous venues, we felt that Union Depot offered exactly what we were looking for and was the perfect place to have our wedding. Our hope was to find a beautiful venue that combined both historic/modern facility design, well known catering organization, ample parking and last but not least…. a wonderful event team. Union Depot had all of these items that were on our wish list and we are truly grateful to have been able to have our wedding at this venue. In terms of how our event was setup, we had rented the largest event room known as the Waiting Room and had it perfectly sectioned off into two sections for both the ceremony and dinner/reception. In addition, what was so nice about this event venue was that we had the option to rent out the private event rooms located on the second floor for a minimal fee in order to host our bridal party along with our wedding gifts. Wonderful venue, awesome event team and incredible experience all around…. Thank you Union Depot for allowing us to have our special day at your beautiful facility. Reviewed on 14-09-2017
Emily Harding(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 29-07-2017 The space worked really well for our 350 guest wedding – both the ceremony and reception were in the Waiting Room in different areas separated by curtain. Both areas were set up ahead of time according to the plans we discussed with the event coordinator there. Parking can be limited depending on other events going on in St. Paul, but validation is available if you want to help your guests pay for parking at the Union Depot. It ended up working out just fine for us.We were very pleased with the food from Crave – and so were our guests! The one bummer is that our Crave contact should have foreseen issues with the number of buffet lines and bars given our size guest list. We could have used another bar line for sure.Black pipe and drape all along the side of the room was required to leave a hallway for people heading out on the night train. It’s a shame to have to put so much of the beautiful brick behind black material, but that’s part of the deal with renting a historic yet functioning train depot.Overall, we were thrilled to have our wedding here. The Waiting Room of Union Depot is a large open room with plenty of natural light and a feeling of historic value. Reviewed on 12-09-2017
