Located in the heart of Kansas City Missouri, UNION is an industrial-chic, blank-canvas venue full of possibilities.
The building that is now UNION was constructed in 1929, and was originally home to a film processing center. The space was refurbished in a way that thoughtfully blends the original building's rustic qualities with contemporary design.
UNION has three-levels, including a fully furnished Speakeasy, and features wood floors, brick walls, and rich, neutral colors. Both ceremonies and receptions can be held at UNION, and the venue is conveniently located near a number of accommodations, restaurants, and more.
UNION can accommodate up to 200 guests for a seated reception, and more for a cocktail style event.
UNION offers 24 hour rentals so that you can have the venue from 10am on the day of your event to 10am the following day, allowing you plenty of time to set-up and party.
UNION welcomes you to choose your own vendors and can provide you with a list of recommended partners. Did we mention that UNION is BYOB? So you can bring in your own alcohol, and we'll provide the service.
Couples can also choose from a range of decor and services to elevate their celebration â from a photo booth, mobile walls, draping, to a mylar dance floor and more.
Included with the space rental are tables and chairs for 150 of your favorite people, cocktail tables, a fully furnished speakeasy and a client ready room. And UNION is pet-friendly so your favorite fur friend can be part of the celebration as well.
The team at UNION understands how much work goes into a wedding and will strive to create a seamless experience in the lead-up to your big day. You will be provided with a concierge to answer all of your questions about the venue.
UNION also offers a range of planning packages, from full-service planning to day-of coordination, to help ease the planning process.
Union 828 was an absolutely amazing venue to work with for our wedding! We loved the look and feel of the space as soon as we toured it and the location is unbeatable for easy access to hotels in the crossroads. We were able to use all three floors for our wedding day and having so much space helped everything to flow smoothly. We ended up doing pretty minimal flowers and decor and this worked perfectly with the space; it was already so beautiful that we didnât feel like we were sparse on decorations or flowers at all. Clay, the bar concierge, was incredibly helpful and willing to make as many adjustments as we wanted to our bar proposal and answered so many questions from us throughout the process. The bartenders were INCREDIBLE and we heard wonderful things about the bar service from our friends and family! They were very attentive and kept the line at the bar moving smoothly all night. Lastly, we had Allison as our Day of Coordinator and WOW, not enough words to express how detailed, thoughtful, and easy to work with she was. If there were any hiccups or problems throughout the day we never heard about it! She made our day feel seamless and so easy! We got to just relax and enjoy being with our friends and family while Allison took care of all the details! Overall we loved this venue and would highly recommend it as well as the coordination services! Reviewed on 05-12-2023

Kate Brinker(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 18-02-2023 We are so happy that we chose UNION for our wedding venue! It is exactly what we were looking for. The space is gorgeous! We loved that it was a 24h rental. We also loved the BYOB of the venue. It was a great location for us - very central and easy for out of town guests. Having a wedding in winter was a gamble, but having the ceremony and reception in one space meant no driving if there was inclement weather. Our rooftop photos are DIVINE!! Great lighting indoors for photos as well. We loved working with the team - Jessica, Hayden, and Madison were all amazing. Madison was our day of coordinator which helped take so much wedding stress off of my shoulders. She is a BOSS and got things handled so everything went perfectly. I cannot say enough amazing things about her - she truly made the wedding everything I wanted. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend checking out UNION. Reviewed on 24-03-2023

Lindsay Roush(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 30-09-2022 We had our wedding at Union on 9/30 and there were things that we absolutely loved about our experience and things that were furstrating.Pros:- 24 hour rental. This was HUGE. The other venues we looked at nickel-and-dimed you to death for more time... Union please never change this because it is so unique and SO helpful!!- BYOB. Although, yes, you have to pay Union for the non-alcoholic bar setup, bringing our own alcohol was still cheaper than any package we could find at any venue. The bartenders were very friendly and did a great job only opening one bottle at a time so we were able to return what was unopened.- Flexibility. Union advertises themself as a blank canvas and they lived up to this! They were not only accommodating to our ideas, but supportive as well in terms of decor, layout, etc.- Sales tax was included in their prices!! This seems so small, but when you're paying thousands for a venue, it adds up.Cons:- Communication. This was by far the #1 frustration throughout the whole wedding planning process. I had to follow up on almost every email I sent to our client concierge... even during wedding week, I didn't get replies to emails. Additionally, there were some small details that varied between our brochure, versus what was told to us during the tour, versus what was told to us by our client concierge. Luckily it wasn't anything major, but just annoying to clarify.Lastly, I would've given Union 4/5 stars up until the situation that happened the day after our wedding. We packed everything (every. single. thing.) up the night of the wedding and left it by the back door to the alleyway so my parents could drive up, load their cars, and leave the next morning. My mom got a text from a girl from Union at 8:30ish. My mom told her that her and my dad would be there around 9:30/9:45 to pick up our stuff and the girl told my mom that was perfect. Union states you have until 10 AM the day after your event to load out. My mom showed up at 9:35 and the back door was locked. While she was knocking, Madison called my mom but my mom didn't answer because she was at the back door and her phone was in her car. Because my mom didn't answer on the FIRST ring, Madison called me AND my husband the MORNING AFTER OUR WEDDING and woke us up?! Wtf?! Who calls the bride and groom the morning after the wedding??? My mom's call log said Madison called her once at 9:36, then Madison called me and my husband at 9:37. We didn't answer so she called my mom again and my mom had gotten back in her car and picked up the phone when Madison called again at 9:39. Madison called us but never called our day-of coordinator? Madison was extremely disrespectful on the phone when talking to my mom and was telling her that she needed to get our stuff, there were people coming in, we had so much stuff to pick up, etc. Meanwhile, my mom is on the phone telling her the she is literally standing outside trying to get her things but that she can't get in. I was appalled at how unprofessional the whole situation was. Our things were completely out of the way of any cleaning and setting up that needed to be done. If you say we have until 10 AM, then don't berate us for not being there at 9:30- which is ironic because my parents WERE there, but couldn't get in. The situation really left a sour taste in our mouth. Reviewed on 03-11-2022

It's a beautiful space that really doesn't need much decorating, and the atmosphere was perfect for the event. We had the ceremony on the first floor, reception on the second, and the cocktail hour and after party in the speakeasy. With all the space for people to spread around, everyone seemed to find their spot during the reception to talk, dance, drink, etc. And having the space for 24 hours made setup and loading out all our stuff so much easier. Thy Dai(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 09-10-2022 My now-husband and I walked into about 3 other city skyline rentals and when we walked into the UNION, we knew it was the one. The speakeasy is literally so magical and set our dark and moody vibes. It was everything we both wanted. It was so incredibly nice that itâs 3 floors, but also includes the rooftop for a gorgeous KC skyline for photos? How much more perfect can it be for us as a city couple?! Walk-thru Wednesdays are a life saver. I believe anyone can walk in, tour the venue, but as a couple, having access to the venue to try out how our centerpieces would like, be there to physically map things out, move tables around, check the lighting, getting video stills beforehand during a gorgeous day made our wedding that much more perfect. We went to the Walk-Thru Wednesdays about 3 times and each time, it felt like things were just so much more solidified. I didnât have to imagine if the decorations would go with the table or worried about if the chairs were too close together. I could just go to the venue and arrange it how Iâd like and see if the dance floor was an appropriate size. As someone who plans a lot and has a ton of anxiety, this made me feel so much more at ease. â¨â¨For communication, just go to walk-thru Wednesdays. To be honest, I had trouble emailing the venue or calling them so it was much easier for me to go in person and they were so kind!I would say the bridal suite was absolutely stunning, but I think more ventilation in there is definitely needed and outlets. A third station or a tall bar chair wouldâve been much more convenient. I felt terrible that one of the artists had to work with someone in a low chair. There were 3 mirrors, but only 2 high chairs. We had to do a makeshift station, but I believe for our Hair&MakeUpArtists, they really prioritized the natural light to make sure that we looked our best. There also is only a 1 2-outlet on the wall with the mirrors and thereâs one on the one by the dresses for the fan, but for a room having about 8 people, 2 fans were definitely needed. I would also say that it wouldâve been helpful if there were more trays or counter space for our HMUAs to set their things. It worked out, but yeah, it is a slightly smaller bridal suite, so I would say⌠3-4 bridesmaids max. I had 6 bridesmaids + flower lady, but thankfully during the morning, half of us were running errands and helping set up so it wasnât as bad. Also, the bluetooth setup they have in the bridal suite was so easy to use and already there. No need for us to remember those Bluetooth speakers we always forget!â¨Madison was the venue coordinator and she was amazing at making us feel comfortable and giving us options on what we could possibly do and also make amazing suggestions for the timeline or how we can migrate from floor to floor. Hayden was the amazing bar manager at the UNION who was incredible at communication and was making sure all of our alcohol was in order! Having a BringYourOwnAlcohol package is just incredible and having them as bartenders was *mwah* chefâs kiss. We enjoyed all the staff at the UNION and weâre so happy to have had our perfect wedding here. I canât imagine anyone regretting getting married in such a beautiful, beautiful venue already on its own. I honestly thought I had too many decorations that took a little bit away from the venueâs ambiance that I wanted captured in the photos. Reviewed on 14-10-2022

It was not any of the employees I want to make that clear. It was a random person off of the street. After discussing this with their corporate office, they are working on fixing the issues and making sure security is much better as this has never happened to anyone before there. I cannot say enough good things about Ashton. She handled herself very professionally, was calm when she knew we were upset about the bag and was very empathetic. She has always gotten back to me and been responsive not just via email. Hands down she is the best employee there at Union! While we never imagined that a random person from the street would have done this in broad daylight and we were very upset, Ashton made the situation a little better by being so kind and professional. Ashton, you made our experience a better one by being so great! You are a rockstar! Also, Ashley with their corporate office was amazing too! Donât lock the bathroom doors because their bathroom doors lock you in the bathroom and you cannot get out. I, the groom, was locked in a bathroom and could not get out until we had to break the door. We told someone about the bathroom door, but they still have not done anything about it and weâre shocked again when we told them about 5 days later. And lock your stuff up in your vehicle because someone came into our venue on the day of our wedding and stole items from our wedding party. Kristin Crawford(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 24-06-2021 Brides, this space is beautiful! However, if you are not a Type A planner I would not recommend this space without paying for their planning services. The teams here are pretty hard to get a hold of, and when you ask questions they respond with \"well, you didn't pay for our planning services...\". Overall they were frustrating to work with. We were sold on that beautiful roof when we initially booked and we were told it would be finished by our wedding date, as we booked a year and a half out, but the pandemic pushed back their construction. So we then decided to do golden hour photos up there, which was discussed with staff verbally but I forgot to add it to the final timeline so when the time came the door was locked and the night manager was no where to be found, yet another extremely frustrating problem with their staff, when confronted they then said \"...well it wasn't on the timeline\". Now, if your guests are drinkers beware of the bar. If you choose to go the BOYB route there is an additional $2,000+ fee (hidden) for them to set up that bar for you. They require you use their bartenders and the ones we had the night of our wedding were incredibly rude to all of our guests, it was horrible customer service. After our event I wrote an email explaining our experience and what I got back was snippets of the fine print and them trying to justify the horrible attitude and service that we received. However, if you are on top of details you might be alright here, because the aesthetic here is really amazing. Reviewed on 14-07-2021

(This is the short version of my review, see below for further but not all details)We fell in love with this venue and booked it 15 months before my daughterâs wedding. We were especially excited about the rooftop which was to be completed within a few months, at least a year before our wedding. We were told, in writing that if the rooftop was not completed there would be compensation. We understand with the pandemic all businesses have been struggling so we gave them leeway when they suggested we wait until closer to our date to discuss the compensation. It was 17 days before the wedding when communication ceased from the Venue Manager. All calls and emails went unanswered. As in the past months, we reached out to their corporate office and also as in the past months received an automated reply stating they have a high call volume and to make an appointment for a phone call. The first available appointment was weeks away, AFTER our wedding. In the end, due to our diligence we were able to speak to someone at corporate who offered small, fairly insignificant âextrasâ, they told us that because the rooftop was not singled out in the contract (neither was the speakeasy or any other floor) they didnât owe any compensation. Unfortunately we had paid for everything already so we were stuck. Although our emails and questions went unanswered we did receive 2 form letter emails regarding the set up and policies, nothing regarding the issues we were having. During our set up, day of and tear down the venue management was basically MIA, I spent much of my time searching for someone to answer my questions which was also frustrating. This venue is beautiful and has potential for success but our experience with the management was beyond frustrating. We had so many compliments from our guests about how great the staff was, how seamless the event unfolded, and the overall beauty of the space. Booking a venue is a huge, stressful part of wedding planning and we could not have made a better choice than Union. Jessica, Ashtyn, Melissa, the bar staff and everyone else involved were all amazing. Thanks so much. Reviewed on 22-02-2021
Katelyn Rudolph(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 13-02-2021 Albeit quite rare, Union was the first and only venue that my husband and I looked at when preparing for our wedding day. We were immediately blown away by the beautiful industrial three-story venue that could be shaped and tailored essentially to how we he envisioned our day. It was love at first sight! Our overall vibe for our day was very go with the flow and flexible, so having this open space that didn't feel too stuffy or clichĂŠ was absolutely perfect. With that being said, there is truly no bad place to take pictures in this venue! To anyone who books Union - take advantage of every aspect of this venue for pictures! From the very suave and cool speakeasy in the basement, to the gorgeous downtown Kansas City views on the rooftop, we were (and still are) absolutely in love with everything this venue had to offer us. In addition, we loved all of the additional services Union had. We took advantage of their digital Selfie Station which was so fun, used their in-house bar staff and beverage services and could not have made this day possible without the help of Union's coordination staff. Due to COVID, my husband and I were engaged for over 2 years, and due to that length of time and the venue having just opened when we booked, we saw a bit of staff changes while we were clients but everyone we worked with was wonderful, professional and we couldn't have made it all work without their help. Thank you so much to the entire Union team! Reviewed on 15-02-2021
Rachel Cisneros(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 06-11-2020 UNION exceeded our expectations and our guest had nothing but compliments! With the current pandemic situation, there were definite curveballs thrown our way. But the week of the wedding, especially the day off, I was blown away with how helpful the staff was. With COVID precautions, setting up, during the event as well as after, I was not expecting the support and help that we received. Outstanding. The day of was seamless. We couldnât have done it without them. HUGE shout out to Ashtyn! We loved getting to work with her and having her apart of our day! Reviewed on 10-11-2020
Maddie Aitchison(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 18-07-2020 I have nothing but great things to say about using Union as our wedding venue. We got married during COVID and Candice was truly fantastic. She helped make sure our day went smoothly, in both the planning process and on the day of. Her flexibility and communication is unmatched. The venue itself is simply stunning, and the multiple floors were a logistical dream. The rooftop pictures with the city in the background were beautiful, and the fact that we could come by the next morning to pick up any remaining items made the night of much less stressful for my family. Union was everything we could have wanted and more :) Reviewed on 15-09-2020

Michelle Inman(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 07-03-2020 We LOVED having our wedding at UNION! The whole process of planning was made so easy and the staff was super helpful. The major benefits for us were open vendor policy, BYOB, and Walk Through Wednesdays where they let you come into the venue, bring vendors/friends/family, and plan whatever you like on site! They also have everything you need in one place - a bridal suite, a speakeasy (where our men got ready), and TWO floors which makes ceremony & reception so easy in one place! Plus the rooftop view is astonishing. We had so many compliments of the event and location - definitely a great choice! Reviewed on 23-03-2020
Kristy Wray(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 02-11-2019 We just had our wedding at UNION earlier this month. It was beyond perfect. We got countless complements on how beautiful the venue was. We toured about 7 different venues in the downtown area, after seeing UNION we decided right away it was the venue we wanted! We worked with Morgan as our wedding coordinator and this was the best decision we made throughout the whole planning process! She was amazing. She made the whole wedding planning process so stress free for me! We canât thank the whole team enough for making our day more perfect then we could ever imagine. Morgan, Candice, and Tim were phenomenal to work with. Reviewed on 21-11-2019
Rebecca Flournoy(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 08-05-2021 I did not end up booking the Union for my wedding, but it was on my short list. Honestly, for the money you canât beat the Union. It had had the aesthetic my fiancĂŠ and I were looking for with hardwood floors and exposed brick. Candice gave me a tour and was very nice and answered all my questions. Pros:-BYOB!!-technically 3 levels so no need to flip-amazing rooftop view of city perfect for pictures -amazing speakeasy perfect for cocktail hour or after party-beautiful wood tables and sturdy metal chairs included in rental-plenty of nice bathrooms -cute bridal suite Cons-no designated parking lotThe rooftop patio being built will bring this already amazing space to the next level! Callie Zevecke(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 21-09-2019 We just had our wedding at The Union and it was wonderful! It was everything I had imagined and more. The venue itself is so gorgeous it really doesn't need much to decorate it. We wanted an industrial, romantic vibe and this place gave us that. Pros: - They offer an in house coordinator for an additional cost, or worked in with the cost of the venue - definitely get coordination because Morgan is the absolute best! She kept me sane through everything, worked with all the vendors for me, coordinated everything before and during the wedding, made sure my husband and I were always happy and taken care of. I mean she was amazing! She took my vision and brought it to life. She thinks of things to add little touches to everything. I would say something and her response was always, already took care of it. She's been in the business for a long time and gets shit done. Which is exactly what any bride needs on their big day. - The venue is huge with technically 4 floors. Highly recommend getting married on one floor and reception on the other. It was simple, no room flip and was seamless for guests. - Bridal Suite is beautiful and we got ready there all day. It was perfect being so close to everything downtown as well. We had food delivered and enjoyed spending the time there in case anything was needed from me. The staff they hired for the event were awesome. They knew any and all drinks. Made sure Danny and I were always happy, came and checked on us brought us drinks. They were awesome! - You can bring all your own vendors, BYOB packages that will honestly save you thousands - seriously do this! - 24 hour rental which is incredible, we stayed until 2 a.m., did last call at 1 a.m. and all of our guests loved that!Cons: - The roof was supposed to be done long before our wedding and unfortunately due to city permits it wasn't. We were incredibly disappointed in that, after all it was the main reason we booked the venue. BUT they worked with us on making it right and took care of part of the bar package and threw in a photo booth. Once the roof is complete, be prepared for this venue to never be available because the view up there is gorgeous and not many venues down there will have something like that. - Speakeasy basement - we paid extra for this feature and I was really hoping it would be more than it was. It was supposed to have a full built in bar, we ended up with a table and table cloth - not what we were thinking, but it was functional and worked out for the night. I was a very chill relaxed bride, but extremely organized and knew what I wanted. Honestly, there are slight cons above, but I wouldn't of changed a thing. Our wedding was incredible, we partied until 2 a.m. and it was an absolute blast! Our guests loved everything and there were literally no complaints from anyone. It was a night I'll remember forever and the perfect start to our forever. Reviewed on 27-09-2019
