Wild Onion Brewery and Banquets is a rustic wedding venue located in Lake Barrington, Illinois. It is truly a unique one-of-a-kind destination. The Great Hall was built in 2006 with a clear vision of unparalleled beauty that would invoke a sense of architectural awe and serenity. It is anchored by a large timber frame cathedral ceiling that overlooks a beautiful 11-acre lake. Our private lake is surrounded by wildflowers and a cascading waterfall which flows outside the room and past a cantilevered patio. Your guests can enjoy a champagne toast under a canopy of bistro string lights with the sweet sound of flowing water. We believe a wedding venue should be as unique as your special occasion.
Thanks to their on-site brewery, guests can enjoy their highly-acclaimed craft beer. Their unparalleled ales and lagers could be the perfect beverages to serve at your rehearsal dinner or reception. Additionally, whether outdoor or indoor, this venue provides food and catering services, including the most delicious cakes and desserts.
The Wild Onion Pub is truly a gem! The banquet space was spacious for us with a lovely view and cool woodwork and quirky chandeliers. The wait staff, kitchen staff and event planners were wonderful to us. Food delicious (A lot of special touches at this brewery.) Thank you Wild Onion! Reviewed on 30-11-2023

If you want a wedding venue that has plenty of natural lighting plus a warm and cozy feeling, this is your place! The event coordinator is absolutely fantastic and very responsive. The staff throughout the whole evening were kind and kept everyone happy. The place is absolutely gorgeous and you can have everything done on site. The bridal suite may be small but there's plenty of places to spread out while getting ready. The food was great, plenty of options plus late night snacks for your guests. There's plenty of parking and even though it is connected to the restaurant, you never feel like there's people \"crashing\" or anything like that. Plus there's private bathrooms for the event space. If anything, being connected to the restaurant was more fun for the guests who got there early and wanted a light snack or a drink. I would book this place over and over again if I could! We held both our ceremony and reception at the Wild Onion. The ceremony was outside on the patio facing the lake and we used the entire banquet hall for a 185 person wedding. Pictures came out beautifully in both spaces! We worked with Adrianna for our event planning, she took us through all preliminary meetings, menu tasting, and final meetings before the big day. She was very responsive to emails and quite patient with the many random questions I asked her! She seemed new and was thrown off by a few requests I made that were out of the ordinary.A few items in the planning process were frustrating - each time I confirmed the answer to a particular question, the answer had changed every month or two.1. We had a live band instead of a DJ. We were quoted 12' x 20' stage space initially with as many musicians as we wanted - we could take up more space knowing we'd sacrifice the dance floor and we could use risers. Midway through planning the available space then decreased to 12' x 16' and max 5 musicians. I confirmed again to add risers and then it turned into 12' x 8' (understandable given we were using risers, although surprised by the new restrictions). Because of this, I felt the need to confirm all details multiple times to make sure we had the right information for all aspects of the event.2. We had a list of decor established about midway through the planning process including arch, centerpieces, and other table decorations. When confirming at the final meeting, the arch seemed to be a big surprise and I was told the staff wouldn't be able to move it to the patio for the outdoor ceremony. I then had to have my guests assist with assembling my arch before the ceremony began (and disassemble during the reception).3. I was able to combine two different chicken dishes into one dish (stuffed chicken breast from one dish and artichoke basil cause from another) which was confirmed multiple times. The day of the event we received the stuffed chicken breast with its original sauce.4. Initially the space opened up at 10am for vendors to arrive - then at the final meeting the earliest we could start setting up was 12 or 1pm coordinating with Adrianna's arrival to the venue.5. Our indoor plan was to have the guests at their tables while the ceremony took place at the doors going outside to the patio. I requested initially the bar open one hour to 30 minutes before the ceremony so my guests could have a drink while sitting at their tables. This was confirmed ok. Then at the final meeting it was a hard no because we didn't pay for it ahead of time.Overall, a beautiful place to hold your wedding. Just stay on top your details and confirm multiple times to save yourself a lot of stress. Reviewed on 30-07-2023

We were married right after Christmas (12/28/19) and the place was decorated beautifully for the holidays. We had both the wedding ceremony and reception in the Great Hall, and the transition from ceremony to dinner was seamless. The space was perfect for our number of guests, but I could see it being a little cramped with more people. Our guests raved about the appetizers and the dinner was good, but not anything special. We worked with Jamie, Tina, and Kirsten for event planning. For the most part everything was handled great on their side, with minor issues here and there. Communication was occasionally a bit challenging because they were undergoing a change in management during our wedding planning. Because we were one of the first weddings under the transitioning management, communication at times was a bit confusing, but I'm certain they will iron things out quickly. The Onion Pub and Brewery in Lake Barrington, IL had everything we wanted for our ideal wedding, with a little personality mixed in. As we are both beer lovers, the brewery aspect worked out perfect as we included their local beers for our bar package. For those who are not big drinkers, no problem! It's not required, and the Great Hall feels very elegant! The hall was great and allowed us time to go and set up the night before during our rehearsal. They understood all of our requests and accommodated everything. We wanted a fall wedding, so we got married on Black Friday. The pub had put up white lights everywhere which added a little extra touch to the room. For the ceremony the Great Hall was perfect with the double story window and lights. I would not have chosen a different location for my wedding - it was breathtaking! My one caveat was the GM there. Though she was nice in person, her responses to some requests came off quite rude (mainly over email). In person she was very pleasant, but how she approached a few things was not very customer-friendly. We booked the Onion Pub about 16 months before our wedding, and over those 16 months, I probably asked Jamie 1,000 questions. She was always kind, positive, and prompt in her response, and seeing her during our consultations was always a pleasure. She also made some recommendations in regards to photographer, florist, and local hotels and all I can say is listen to Jamie. We did take those recommendations, and she really pointed us in the right direction. I don't have a single vendor complaint. Then of course there is the venue itself. So many of our guests complimented the venue, and it's been great seeing them post up pictures of themselves on the balcony, overlooking the lake or infront of the front mural. Her recommendations were much appreciated to give our guests the best experience. We booked a year out and wanted our ceremony right before our reception. The food is outstanding and the ambiance of the twinkle lights and how the venue is decorated for Christmas made our decision easy to book it for our wedding on December 15th. Our wedding photos were outstanding due to the decorations the venue does. Our guests kept raving about how beautiful it was! The staff set up all of our items we brought for our wedding (place cards, guest book, etc.) and my florist was able to get in as early as 9:30 to come do his part. Rachel Shapiro(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 15-09-2018 This was such an amazing place to get married! I wish I could give 4.5 stars as there were a few minor issues that did NOT affect the wedding overall, which is why I'm going with 5 stars instead of 4 because I would not have wanted to get married anywhere else. Despite the minor issues. The good: Jamie is such a sweetheart to work with and very flexible! She always got back to us in a timely manor with in depth answers to our questions. There was a bit of a mix-up in terms of centerpieces but after I spoke w/Jamie she corrected it right away. The venue itself is so beautiful and has a very unique vibe, which is absolutely what we were going for. We had our ceremony on the back terrace facing the man-made waterfall and many guests told us it was one of the most beautiful ceremonies they had ever seen. The outside space itself is already landscaped with flowers so we didn't have to worry about paying for additional decorations. The inside of the Great Hall is breathtaking; floor to ceiling windows, high ceilings over the dance floor, exposed wood beams. I loved all of the trees inside with white lights strung up. We were lucky to have good weather but if we would've had to move the ceremony inside it still would have been a gorgeous space. Prior to the ceremony we were even able to take pictures in the actual brewery, which was so cool! Food was excellent, staff was responsive and made sure we were well taken care of. The bad: Man, this place does a lot of weddings. We had to have our rehearsal Friday at 1pm as they had a wedding that night. Additionally they sometimes will run behind if one of their other couples was late or delayed for some reason, and there will likely be tours/rehearsals going on while you meet with staff. Still I'm sure this is the case for many venues and we still felt like they were on top of what we needed and knew us. There was also a miscommunication regarding toasts; we told the onion we wanted parents/maid of honor/best man toasts later in the evening but the DJ informed us he was told they had to be done by a certain time (earlier than we wanted). This was never communicated to us. Again, overall did not affect the evening and we simply adjusted, but it would have been nice to have been told when the toasts needed to be done by as we had gone over the whole timeline for the evening at our final meeting. Finally, the onion's beer is not included in the basic open bar menu. That was fine for us as the add-on helped to meet our minimum, but it seemed strange a brewery wouldn't have their own beer as part of the basic open bar.So small things that may be expected when a venue does a lot of weddings. But our guests raved about The Onion and I am so glad we went with them over one of the local golf courses. I would get married here again in a heart beat! Reviewed on 03-10-2018

Not only was she extremely pleasant and genuinely excited to help us with our wedding, but she was super accommodating and easy-to-reach. All of our questions were answered in a very timely and efficient way that made planning super easy.Next was the food. We frequent the Onion Pub for their burgers (which are also pretty top notch), but we've never had anything quite like the food prepared for the wedding. We took two of our friends to the tasting and all four of us were simply blown away by the quality. Whenever anyone asked me what I was excited for most, I told them the food. We got the artichoke chicken and chicken with wildrice soup, both of which were a big hit for the guests. The vegetarians got a pasta dish and beer cheese soup that I'm still hearing raving compliments about weeks after the wedding. And the cake! The Onion worked with a bakery (Jarosch Bakery in Elk Grove, I believe) to get us a cake for the wedding that was better than I could have imagined. On the day of the wedding, all of our tables and little items were set up perfectly in a way that was even better than we had imagined. Although we had a wreath and candle for the centerpieces, we were able to use their mirrors and tea light candles to provide an amazing display for each table. Finally, the service. Everything, from the meal delivery to the bar service, to the coordination was better than the best. Food was delivered on time and efficiently. Guests who had questions or concerns (there are a few in every wedding) were addressed to promptly. Staff checked in with the bride and I a number of times to ensure that we were ok. The planning process was completely stress free with the Onion and they day of experience did not disappoint. Great venue! Reviewed on 24-03-2017
Amanda Hughes(bride)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 06-10-2018 My fiance and I were so incredibly disappointed! We had heard great things about the pub and saw the beautiful pictures online and hoped The Great Hall was where we would hold our wedding ceremony and reception. However, even within the first few emails I exchanged with the Event Coordinator, Jamie, I could tell things were a little off. Despite poor email interaction, we still wanted to see the venue we had been hearing so much about. We finally had our tour and we were literally in and out in less than 10 minutes. We were showed the Great Hall, the patio and bridal suite. I was then handed a folder of information that I'm sure could be found on their website. I had asked if we were going to go through the information with her (as that has been the standard practice at all of our other venue tours), but she said no, that she didn't normally walk the couples through it but we could review it at home and contact her if we had any questions. My fiance and I were dumbfounded that she really wasn't going to provide us with any other information - she just stood blankly staring at me until I said I didn't have any other questions (and how could I have more questions when I didn't even know what information was included in the handout I had be given). She then said bye and didn't even walk us out to the front of the restaurant. If she couldn't be bothered to spend more than 10 minutes with us when we are going to potentially be spending thousands ($13,000 minimum on Saturdays), I can't even imagine working with her to plan our wedding! I honestly don't know how people are even getting to the point of holding their wedding at the Great Hall to leave such great reviews about it. That attitude and lack of professionalism might be okay for others, but we were hoping for a bit more. We ended up eating at the pub after our 'tour' and as we sat there I saw 3 other couples file in and out (about 10 minutes each). The folks at the Great Hall/Onion Pub are not interested in making the couples feel special, they're just trying to filter through as many people as possible in a day hoping that someone will agree to work with them. Ultimately the venue looks beautiful, the food is great, but the thought of having to rely on Jamie to help coordinate our wedding is frightening. I hope they change their methods soon so others aren't as disappointed as we were. If they focused a little more on each couple to make them feel 'special' (it is their wedding for goodness sake!), or at the bare minimum spent the time to walk through the pricing and wedding packages, I think this venue has the potential to be great. Kristi G(bride)3 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 15-10-2016 Overall, our experience with the Onion Pub as a reception venue was positive. Everything at our reception went smoothly and the food was delicious! However, we were never made to feel like our big day was very special. In the meetings leading up to the wedding, we were never offered any complimentary food, drinks, or even water. The day of the wedding, our wedding coordinator was nowhere to be seen and the next day when we went to pick up our decorations, we were not asked how everything went. While everything went smoothly, it would have been nice to have been treated as though our big day was just that, a big day. Reviewed on 27-11-2016

Not only was Jamie the best coordinator, but the entire staff involved without wedding day was beyond helpful and positive. their skill speaks for itself and is proven by how far our they are booked for events such as weddings. Our coordinator, Jamie, was so flexible and organized throughout the entire process. She was honest and helped us make informed decisions while keeping everything affordable. She kept up with communication and responded to all emails and calls in a reasonable amount of time. The staff (bartenders and servers) at the reception were incredible. Everyone commented on how beautiful it was, and everyone loved the craft beer available. Jamie was amazing to work with and was helpful every step of the way. We enjoyed spending time at the pub and with such good food we got dinner most nights we were there doing wedding stuff. While there were a couple hiccups with food running a tiny bit behind, and our beers not being opened for our beer toast after our thank you speech, which we just had to wait for a waiter to grab one and sneak over to fill our glasses, this was the most beautiful venue. Jamie and Jody were so helpful throughout the whole process, working around our schedule. I live out of town and they were wonderful about making time on the weekends or offering virtual/email meetings. Martha Ortinau(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 31-10-2015 We went with The Great Hall at the Onion Pub and Brewery for our wedding reception. It was a complete hit with everyone! The space is absolutely stunning, especially in the evening with those huge glass walls. Plenty of room on the dance floor, which was wonderful for our 100-person wedding. Jamie and Jody, the event coordinators, were very nice and easy to work with. The packages they offer for different food/drink options was quite nice and everyone loved the food. One of my groom's requests was \"I want great food\" and they certainly delivered. It was also nice that they pair with Jarosch Bakery (they made my parents' wedding cake!) and there were tons of options for the flavor, filling, and icing. One of the things we loved about this venue was that there aren't many places like it. We didn't want a standard \"banquet hall\" and this place has such a unique feeling to it. It's also got indoor and outdoor space, which is great to step outside when it gets a little warm from dancing. They have wonderful food options, wonderful service, and a beautiful setting for it. I would definitely recommend the Onion Pub & Brewery for anyone considering the Great Hall for a wedding reception. Reviewed on 08-12-2015

Mallory Burdick(bride)4 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 15-06-2012 Let me start off by saying I LOVED my wedding. The day went perfectly and I wouldn't change anything about how the day itself went. This venue is beautiful and the beer is some of the best in a brewpub in the Chicago suburbs. Especially if you have a larger wedding (ours was 140) and want good beer, the Onion is a great choice.\r\rThe planning process caused me a bit more stress than I anticipated. While I really think that Jody and Patty had my best interests at heart, there were several issues during the billing process between the tax being calculated wrong (i.e. you can't charge tax on a discount) and then being misquoted on a few items. Just be sure to get EVERYTHING in writing to avoid this issue. I really think they were honest mistakes, but it just made things difficult at times. \r\rThe prices are high, but you need to be sure that you're really comparing apples to apples with other venues since the wedding package includes A TON. Also because the space is so pretty we had to do very little in terms of decoration which saved us money as well. (On a side note, we used eggplant colored satin table clothes and I think it made the room look so much more elegant than the white.) Overall it was the best choice for my husband and I would make the same choices given the chance. Reviewed on 02-11-2012
