The garden is outfitted with soft, ambient lighting to guide the way when the sun goes down. . They want you to be surrounded by everyone that you love on your special day, and this includes four-legged friends.
An award-winning venue, Hummingbird Houseās success is owed to the hard work and dedication of Tom and Danny. Tom is a horticulturist with years of experience, and he also owns a garden center in South Congress. Danny, meanwhile, previously worked as an event coordinator in Charleston, SC. He moved to Austin in 2009 and happily joined forces with Tom to design the perfect garden wedding for Tomās niece. Having seen how beautifully this event turned out, the pair were encouraged to begin advertising the space for outdoor celebrations. They have since gone on to hold hundreds of occasions, from charity events to vow renewals. Your loved ones can reach this venue within 20 minutes of leaving Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. The city of Austin is a similar distance away and offers a plethora of hotels for out-of-town guests staying overnight.
I discovered Hummingbird House on The Knot and added it to my long list of venues to tour. Danny was so responsive and was able to squeeze us in quickly for a tour. This was the second venue we looked at and they only had one date left for the timeframe we were interested in. I told my now husband that this was it and we had to put the deposit down asap! I immediately fell in love with the beautiful grounds and could picture my garden tea party wedding there so perfectly. They kept the grounds looking so green and lush despite it being September and above 100 degrees on our wedding day. Danny was so responsive and helpful every step of the way. My wedding ended up being so magical and I will have those pictures forever. Can't recommend Hummingbird House enough! Reviewed on 06-11-2023

HH could not have been more perfect! From within minutes of our tour, my now husband and I knew it would be the place. We had a very minimalistic style which fit perfectly since this venue is so gorgeous on its own. Reviewed on 05-11-2023

We just had our wedding at Hummingbird House and it was absolutely wonderful. Perfect option for a lower-cost DIY wedding. The buildings don't have a ton of amenities, but that was fine for our group. The grounds were absolutely beautiful (despite several rainstorms the day of and the days leading up to the wedding [as well as the huge plant-killing freezes Austin has experienced the last few years]) and Danny and his team were great to work with. Also, would not hesitate to hire Danny again for the wedding coordination support. He made several calls throughout the night that improved the flow compared to what we originally planned. The venue speaks for itself - we visited in January for our November 2017 wedding, and the gardens were still lush with greenery and the grounds were just beautiful even in the middle of winter. You feel like this space was made for you and your family and friends! On the first visit Danny also included contact information for local vendors that they have worked with in the past that they love. So helpful since we were planning from out of town!In the weeks leading up to our wedding Courtney helped iron out the details and coordinate with the vendors for setup and timeline. We met the week before at the venue so that the day of the rehearsal and wedding went off without a hitch! Day-of, she helped as our coordinator to greet vendors, make sure everything was setup beautifully and remind us where we needed to be and when so we could focus on our friends and family! Ciara Teter(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 09-03-2018 I cannot be more impressed with this venue and the staff here! I went to at least 10 other wedding venues before I chanced across this one, and I knew right away it was perfect! I have so many good things to say about the venue, but I'll just cover a few highlights. The venue itself is hidden and off a small road, so not lots of traffic or noise. It has a very large variety of beautiful well-maintained plants, making the photo opportunity spectacular around the entire venue (the plant walls are awesome!). The bridal suite is amazingly spacious and well lit with multiple rooms, a bathroom including a shower, and a big open-space area (it was a originally a house). The groom's suite is on the back of the property with a nice large room and bathroom, which is plenty of space for the guys. Both areas are updated and well decorated. The grounds of the venue are gorgeous, they just renovated the walkway to make it more accessible in heels (although still made of large beautiful rocks to keep the natural look), and the flow of the pathway from all areas works well. The ceremony area is an intimate open-air space in a beautiful setting. The built-in bar area is large enough so people aren't crowded in lines during cocktail hour, and makes it easy for your bartender as well! The reception hall is gorgeous with large glass walls and a canopy-type tent feel as the ceiling, making for excellent natural and dance party lighting. It's one big open room, but the tables are arranged however you want (we had the dance floor in the middle) and it held our 150 guests comfortably! It can also be heated or air-conditioned. There is a small side yard if you want to bring yard games, but totally not necessary. The price of the venue is a steal (I did my wedding on a Friday in March) and paid in cash which makes it cheaper! You also get a $500 credit towards decorations and services they offer, which helped me immensely! They provide all the tables and chairs, and setup of the tables and chairs (not decor) beforehand as well. The one knock I would have on the venue is they do not have an ice machine specifically for the bartender (and I did have the option of paying her more to bring some), so I had about 10 coolers full of ice I transported in the bed of my brother's truck. Just something to think about!Courtney and Danny are very easy and friendly to work with. I mostly worked with Courtney as she was also my day-of coordinator (part of their venue package), and although I did not get to actually see her much the day of, she was helping out my family members, wedding party, and vendors around the wedding venue, directing and keeping everyone on the timeline. She was very friendly, calm, and flexible which was great when I was freaking out that we were going to need to change the timeline last minute. Her communication leading up to the wedding was excellent and frequent; I bombarded her with millions of random questions beforehand, and she always responded in a timely manner. She also created a timeline and met with me beforehand to run through all the logistics, and was in contact with all my vendors before and during the wedding.Overall, my wedding flowed very smoothly and I am extremely impressed with everything this venue has to offer and could not be happier! The plants at Hummingbird House are beautiful and there are so many of them you donāt really need to get as many flowers for your big day as you would have at most other venues. Standing on the wedding grounds you are surrounded by so much breathtaking nature. The staff were amazingly friendly and a true delight to work with. Courtney and Danny really went out of their way to take care of us. Our big day went off without a hitch and we couldnāt have asked for a better backdrop for the pictures or setting for the big celebration with family and friends. We also used Courtney for day-of coordination and she did an amazing job! She makes sure everthing runs smoothly and everyone is where they need to be throughout the night. She also helped us put together our timeline and coordinated with our vendors on arrival time, etc. They have an awesome brides room to get ready in with plenty of space for everyone to move around/get ready. Hummingbird House was our venue from the moment we got into the Bridal Suite and met Danny. I remember emailing him from the parking lot of that last venue asking him to send us the contract. We couldn't dare let anyone grab our date by wasting more time with other places. Even our puppy Vladimir loved it! We may be five months behind in our review, but my husband, Kai, and I had a better day than we could have ever imagined for our wedding. The weather was amazing, (I'm giving Courtney that credit) the venue was set up and arranged perfectly, and we never missed the important moments of our wedding thank to Courtney's ninja-like day of coordinating skills. She knew just when to be there to help us and when to let us sit back and soak it all in. Thank you to the amazing team. As a coordinator myself, I don't know how they do this with the small staff that they have. Goes to show that it's not about the number of staff members, rather, it's about the quality and heart of the people who work there. Getting married the first week of March ran the risk of it being cold so it was nice to have the option of a heated reception area if needed. Danny and Courtney are awesome! We met with Danny to see the venue and he was very helpful with all our questions and offering up ideas. I loved that HH gives a preferred vendor list but you are not obligated to use it. We ended up using most vendors from their list but it was nice to have the freedom to choose and not for an added fee like most venues out there. They actually understand that it's your wedding and are very accommodating and helpful to make sure your vision comes to life. Lauren Turner(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 26-04-2014 Naturally, the first thing off the wedding checklist must be the venue!! It is an overwhelming search throughout all the wedding websites and Austin local bridal magazines. We looked at the Hummingbird House first in January 2013 for a Spring 2014 wedding date. They had a 10% wedding planner/coordinator discount which made it affordable for us. It was a cold, ugly day when we set up a walk-through mid-week. Even without their usual spring flowers I had seen in the pictures online, it was absolutely stunning. Courtney was there to show up around and she could not have been nicer. They have a greenhouse which they use to keep the flowers/plants that are in that current season available. She was explaining what flowers would be out and where during our projected time of year date. \r\rThings that were really attractive to us were: 1. The enormous bridal suite with waiting area, huge bathroom and hair/make-up salon. 2. Separate grooms suite with television, refrigerator, and plenty of lounging space. 3. New bathrooms 4. Tent over the reception area with chandeliers that is up year round that can either be contained for air conditioning or heating. 5. Wrapped āChristmasā white lights EVERYWHERE. 6. Easy and accessible parking for guests and for large buses. \r\rThe contract was simple and easy to understand. Everything that was included was readily explained and the items that I needed to possibly rent were made available with the preferred vendors list that they provided. I mostly dealt with Courtney via-email but Danny was also super nice and answered my endless questions. Two weeks prior to the end of April, Courtney and I had our walk-through. And on the day of she ran things like a pro. Between her and my family and my other awesome vendors, we were able to pull off a big DIY wedding and on the day of I felt zero stress (and I'm an easily stressed person so that's saying something!). Everyone there really went above and beyond to accommodate the extensive set up of everything we had made/built for the wedding (and the break down too!)\r\rThe venue was truly magical- it was a spring wedding so all the flowers were in bloom, everything was green, birds were chirping... everything was ideal. But I've visited the venue even when it wasn't springtime and it was still gorgeous. They keep it looking like a spring garden all year round. Sooooooo many guests told us how beautiful the venue was, everyone was asking how we found this place!\r\rAlso, I love that I could get married and have the reception in the same place. I had about 150 guests and I didn't want everyone to have to drive to a new location. We were all set to get married at Hummingbird House, but when Courtney called me the morning before the wedding to let me know the roads to Hummingbird House were impassable, she already had another venue lined up and a plan to notify all vendors and simply change the venue - cool as a cucumber! Once I got over the shock, we worked together to pull off an absolutely PERFECT wedding! Our guests couldn't believe that this was plan 'B' and that she and the new venue staff had moved everything to a new location in 24 hours. From the planning to the day of Danny was so involved. We had three meetings but corresponded a lot through email. On the day of the wedding the Huumingbird House was so prepared. I really got to enjoy my day and really soak it up. I spent time with my bridesmaids and my groom it was just wonderful. We had the ceremony at a small chapel and Danny was there to get everyone ready and set. Once we were done there Danny was already at the Hummingbird House getting things ready. Once we got to the reception we tools pictures then we were sorted where the food was present almost instantly. I really am grateful to have had such a great support system during the weddi g so that my groom and I could really take it all in. Reviewed on 14-05-2012
Jennie Clemons(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 13-04-2012 Hummingbird House is a gorgeous venue with a pool area, garden, gazebo, and everything you need to plan the perfect wedding. I wanted a venue where I could have the ceremony and reception so I wouldn't have to have extra time for driving to a different place and so we wouldn't have to worry about losing any family members between sites. \rDanny, Lauren, and Courtney did an amazing job for me! Even though the lady I originally met with left, Danny assured me the transfer of details would go smoothly and that everything would be great. He was right. Everything was perfect!\rHH is more expensive than other venues in the area, but it is incredible. It all comes down to what is most important to you. If a breathtaking venue is high on your list, check this place out. As soon as we saw HH, we knew we didn't want to even look anywhere else. We were lucky enough to get the last open Friday in April (it's a little less expensive than Saturday). The weather was perfect, the venue was perfect. Everyone commented and still comments on how incredible the site was.\rMy wedding was absolutely perfect, thanks to my details, Danny's vision, and his amazing staff who took care of absolutely everything, including the things that my detailed mind forgot to plan!\rHH took care of details like the dance floor, lighting in the reception tent sheers and a monogram light for the dance floor, pads for the reception chairs, table linens, bartender, security guard, reserving the exit car that I wanted and couldn't find anywhere, organizing and running my entire wedding, and Danny had a cake stand that I borrowed when I couldn't find one anywhere else and was totally stressed out. He even put a ribbon around the edge of the cake stand to give it a little oomph.\rIf you leave your wedding in the capable and talented hands of Danny and his staff, you will not be disappointed. For me, the money I spent at HH was the best possible investment I could have made for the most special day of my life. They are worth every penny. Especially Danny. He is absolutely the best asset I had in the days leading up to my wedding day, and on the day itself, he was invaluable. I couldn't have done this without him.\rThe cost I'm listing is just for the time at HH itself. All of the other details like chair pads, lighting, dance floor, bartender, security guard, and exit car all cost extra. You can pick and choose which things you want/need based on which things are most important to you.\rYour wedding can be as beautiful as you ever imagined or dreamed it could be with Hummingbird House and Danny. The landscaping, white lights, lanterns, and reception tent are gorgeous at any time of year. The staff, Danny and his team, were AMAZING. They made sure that everything ran smoothly and that I didn't have to worry about a thing, except maybe not to trip over my dress during the first dance. :) If I got stressed, a wink and a smile from Danny reassured me. Lauren and Danny were awesome and did everything possible to make my day amazing. All my guests loved my wedding. The grounds are gorgeous, and everything went so smoomthly. I have no regrets. Yes, it's an outdoor wedding, so don't be naive. Austin summers are 105 degrees, and the winter is unpredictable. Be smart and plan for the weather. Your guests will appreciate it. Tara Schetzel(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 12-11-2011 The Hummingbird House was the best choice for my wedding venue. We were actually planning on only using it for the reception site, as we were going to have the ceremony at a church. The church informed us only 5 weeks before the wedding date that it was going to be under construction on our wedding date and we could not get married there. I was in a panic mode because I thought everything was planned and finished, plus we had already sent invitations! Luckily, the Hummingbird House, particularly our day-of-planner Lauren, stepped up and helped us out tremendously. We switched the ceremony to be at the Hummingbird House, and Lauren figured out all the details. If it hadn't been for her help, I don't know what we would have done for our wedding!\r\rSo not only was the Hummingbird House amazing to work with, but the venue is absolutely gorgeous. They have a bride's dressing room where me and all the girl's got ready, and they also had a groom's area where the guys could hang out before the ceremony. \r\rThey have beautiful foliage and plants, and it was really great. The ceremony and reception were both outside, but the reception was under this beautiful tent that has a nice cement floor. They can put the sides of the tent down, and even have heaters if it is cold.\r\rAll the details were managed flawlessly, and I definitely recommend using the Hummingbird House as your wedding venue! Larissa Seal(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 15-10-2011 Lauren and Danny are absolutely AMAZING to work with. Any and all questions I had, they had lots of suggestions (thank goodness) and were very responsive! I met with one or both of them at least 5+ times to look at the venue to get an idea of how to decorate or to get their help and input on things I had no clue about. And the day of the wedding was no exception, they were there every step of the way and just made the whole day stress-free for me. Everytime I turned around at the wedding, Lauren was there to hand me another drink, or pin my dress back up, or get me ready for the next thing on the agenda (first dance, cake cutting, etc). I mean all I did was have a BLAST. The venue itself is gorgeous and pretty much speaks for itself. Even without decoration, it's a beautiful place, but it was so special to see it with my little flair and it was absolutely PERFECT. It was exactly what I imagined and more. Diana S(guest)1 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 03-09-2011 I did not have my wedding at this venue, but I did attend a wedding that was mentioned in a review below. In fact, I was a musician at the wedding and as a result, was able to witness the way that Hummingbird House deals with \"behind the scenes\" things prior to a wedding.\r\rThe wedding took place in July, about 1 month before my own wedding. Therefore my (now) husband and I paid very careful attention to the way things went so that we could learn and make adjustments for our own, upcoming wedding at another venue. Perhaps we were hyper sensitive to everything, but we noticed a LOT of issues.\r\rFirst, the venue coordinator:\rI witnessed the coordinator, Lauren, approach the officiant, who suffers from a visual impairment and is blind. She began to adjust his vestments, without warning him that she was merely inches from his face, while actually asking, \"Are you wearing this crooked on purpose?\" It was incredibly rude and shocking to the officiant.\r\rEven worse than that was when I witnessed Lauren approach the catering staff and demanded that they remove the water station, which had been put out because it was well over 100 degrees in July and the guests needed it to function. Naturally, everyone was hovering by the water station before the wedding began. Lauren had the water removed so that the guests could sit down and the ceremony could begin. I understand that weddings need to be on a schedule, but I do NOT understand why chose to remove the only source of water from guests in Austin's hottest summer on record. She could have easily made a quick announcement that the wedding was about to begin and the guests would have taken their seats.\r\rNext, the venue itself:\rThough very fancy looking, the Porta-Potties were ridiculously smelly by the end of the night. Perhaps it was due to the incredible heat. Still, it was unbearable. I work with kids and have a pretty high tolerance for all things stinky, but I could not get out of that restroom fast enough. In fact, guests were sneaking into the house/dressing area to use the restroom there and some other guests found another restroom behind the porta-potties. This wouldn't be such a big deal if it had been a small wedding, but this wedding was for 200+ people. I'm just glad that I only had to use it once.\r\rThe tent with the cute chandeliers was a nice touch, but we noticed that it was hotter inside the tent, even with the misting fans, than outside of the tent. Even the margarita machines could not handle the heat. Your guests might leave early if you have an outdoor summer wedding at Hummingbird House and not because they aren't having a blast, but because it is intolerable under that tent. We also noticed that the tent itself had spots of mold/mildew in the areas near the misting fans. I'm sure this is probably normal in the Austin heat, but it was not pleasant, since we happened to sit right beneath one. \r\rLike I said before, Hummingbird House is a very pretty place, but it is not the place that you should trust on your wedding day. I witnessed the stress and heartache that this venue created in the bride's life before the wedding, the day of the wedding, and especially after it was all said and done. The venue coordinator was supposed to make life easier, not more difficult, but all she managed to do was make life difficult for everyone involved.\r\rIt might be a beautiful and affordable venue but it is not worth the risk. Carly Kocurek(bride)2 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 23-07-2011 While Hummingbird House is beautiful, I regret hiring the staff to handle day-of coordination. I could not, in good conscience, recommend the venue to another bride without giving a lengthy disclaimer explaining some of the issues we ran into leading up to and on the day of our wedding.\r\rAs the most egregious example: Although my mother, my fiance, a friend, and I all asked who would handle tear down, and all been told, without hesitation, that the venue staff would handle it and that we could pick up our decorations and stuff a day or two later, my mother was told, at 11:30 p.m. as the reception was ending, that we had to take everything down ourselves, and we had to have it out by 8 a.m. the next morning. They told my mom stuff couldn't be picked up later, because they had an event. I believe this was misleading at best, an outright lie at worst, as I got a call from a vendor the next morning, saying no one was there and he couldn't get in to pick up his equipment. To make this extra egregious, my mother was undergoing cancer treatment at the time of the wedding, which Danny and Lauren had been informed of in advance, as it had come up in multiple conversations leading up to the wedding.\rLeading up to the wedding, at multiple points, we were given inaccurate information that resulted in tremendous wastes of time or money. For example, we were told the venue had trash cans to put kegs in. We found out two days before the wedding that they didn't. We were given a very wrong seating chart, which meant that we did the whole seating chart then had to redo it because of coordinator error.\r\rLauren spoke negatively about me to the bakery making our cakes. When I confronted Danny about this, he told me they'd had me confused with another bride. This did not make me feel better, as I believe that speaking negatively about clients to their other vendors is inappropriate, period.\r\rLauren snapped at multiple wedding guests. She also snapped at my friends who were helping set up the wedding -- especially appalling as HH had assured me they would handle ALL set up, but then didn't have adequate staff to do so. We used Danny for day-of coordination as well, and recommend that 100%. My mom STILL talks about how sweet and charming he is. \r\rThe venue itself is breathtaking. In fact, the only wedding decision I made almost as quickly as saying \"yes\" to my now-husband's proposal was to use The Hummingbird House as our venue. My husband loved it instantly, too. It's gorgeous, yet unassuming. Elegant, but not pretentious. Both rustic and sophisticated. We first toured it in the dead of winter and thought it was stunning... wait until everything is in bloom! \r\rWe loved the freedom to use our own vendors, and Danny worked with all of them with the utmost professionalism. Every last need we had was accommodated... even the last minute, surprise ones. \r\rEveryone who attended our wedding had so much fun and felt right at home. There is lots of parking, a fantastic tent and dance floor and top of the line facilities for guests. Everyone kept asking us how we knew about the place... even life-long Austin locals were surprised by its existence. It's a lush, secluded garden oasis in South Austin that makes you feel miles away from anywhere, but it easily accessible from I-35.\r\rI really can not recommend The Hummingbird House enthusiastically enough.
