Brianna Williams(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-09-2022 I'm going to try to fit all the amazing things about this venue in one review, but it may be difficult. I truly can not say enough good things about Sugar Hollow. My husband and I both have large families from all over the country and knew we wanted a space to REALLY spend time with them, and show them the beauty of East TN. Sugar Hollow provided that and then some. First of all, the views from the venue/property are truly some of the best we have ever seen (and we are from East TN ourselves). The cabins/houses are so homey and versatile, but the property gave our friends and family so many things to do outside of them. From lawn games and fires, to hiking or kayaking, it gave everyone space to do their own thing throughout the day. One of our absolute favorite things was having the ability to have everyone on site gather at The Lodge Thursday/Friday night for dinner. We provided dinner and drinks both evenings, and even had live music Friday night for our rehearsal dinner. The Lodge became a beautiful gathering place all weekend, and besides actually getting married, the time spent there with our closest friends and family was hands down the most memorable and best time of the weekend and debatably our entire lives. Now onto the actual wedding and Overmountain Hall.. I couldn't have dreamed a more beautiful spot to get married. The hall had everything we possibly needed, including the most gorgeous bridal suite that even had windows that allowed me and my bridesmaids to watch people roll in for the ceremony (one of my favorite parts). We are still receiving compliments on the views from OMH and the hall itself. My husband says the view of the mountains behind me as we said our vows was the best view he's seen in his entire life. As if the venue itself wasn't a dream, Nicole and Kaleigh (and Marty!) were SO helpful during the planning process and were there what seemed 24/7 to answer all the questions I had. They felt like friends at the end of the process. Really, truly, this place is magical and the magic was felt the entire weekend by my husband and I and our guests. There are SO many more details I could include and boast about, but this review would be endless. Sugar Hollow was THE best decision we made for our wedding and I would recommend it (and do it) over and over and over again. Reviewed on 14-01-2023

If you’re thinking of booking or touring Sugar Hollow for your upcoming wedding, let this be your sign to do so. This venue is INCREDIBLE for couples that want a unique experience in the beautiful Appalachian mountains. We got to stay here with our friends and family for 3 wonderful nights and will never forget it.Everything was top tier, but the real highlight of this venue is its staff. Everyone we worked with made it so easy on us to plan a wedding from afar, and they were so accommodating and kind while we were on site. They were also able to recommend amazing vendors for every aspect of the ceremony and reception. These people know their stuff and are quick to solve problems when they arise. Where do I even begin? From the very start of setting an appointment to the very end of leaving our weekend getaway everyone was so warm and welcoming. They were always there for any of my needs and questions. Nicole made everything run so smooth from the first time we met. I truly don’t think I could have gotten through the weekend with her or Jamie. They had calmed my nervous and had gone way above and beyond for everything. It was like planning your wedding with your bestfriend. I can’t express how much I truly appreciate everything they had done for us. I could not have picked a better place to have our wedding. Any single problem you could think of they could solve it in less than an hour. On top of that being able to have our family and friends stay on site in the cabins all weekend was a dream. I absolutely recommend this place. Reviewed on 20-12-2023

We booked Sugar Hollow not having seen the property since we were in Texas. Talking with Nicole, our coordinator, gave us such a feeling of comfort and confidence knowing (hoping) my daughter’s day would be magnificent….and she did not disappoint! Between her & Jamie, there was absolutely NO stress. They took care of everything once we arrived at the venue. Communication was perfect. If we had a question, she was quick to respond. We had our wedding at Sugar Hollow Retreat on 08/19/23 and it was perfect!! The views are unreal and photos don’t do them justice! We were able to have a very unique wedding experience as you rent the whole property from Thursday to Sunday. We had a Welcome Party on their overlook deck on Thursday night to welcome guests as they came into town. We had a Brunch and Rehearsal Dinner on the patio at OverMountain Hall on Friday. And our wedding Saturday was perfect! We also loved the fact that so many of our guests were able to stay on site. They are building even more cabins to allow for more guests! We received so many compliments on how unique our wedding was and how the bridal party and close family enjoyed being able to stay on the property together. One of the things that really drew me to this venue was the flexibility they offered. Some of the other venues we looked at were extremely strict on what vendors you could use and access to the venue. Sugar Hollow Retreat has fantastic coordinators! I can’t say enough good things about this venue. Beyond the natural beauty and gorgeous reception hall are all the little details that make it so special. They have beautiful tables and chairs, a huge caterer’s kitchen, an ice maker, a massive fireplace that can be customized with pictures and decor, a gorgeous suite for the bridal party to get ready, modern hookups for the DJ….no detail has been left out. There are numerous places to take amazing photos as well. But honestly the thing that made our day the most special wasn’t a thing at all; it was the people. On our first visit we met with Marty. She made us feel so welcome and answered all our initial questions. The wedding coordinator, Nicole French, is nothing short of amazing! She, along with her helper, Jamie, took our vision to the next level! She was there every step of the way, making sure that all the details were taken care of. Sugar Hollow Retreat is undeniably one of the most beautiful venues you can find for a wedding. In addition to that, the on property lodging and amenities for your guests make this venue a truly unique and memorable experience. The planning, service, and experience of the staff is excellent. The knowledge they have regarding wedding planning in general and the vendors specific to the area was a huge help as we worked through all the details. We planned our wedding from out of state and the vast majority of our guests were from out of state as well. We had 65 guests stay on property with us Thursday through Sunday, and they all remarked about both the beauty of the location as well as how clean, well-equipped, and unique the different houses on property are. We catered in 3 meals (including our wedding night and rehearsal dinner) and provided 3 additional meals via Publix pickup with no issues. All of the planning done between us and the venue staff made it so that once we were there, we didn't have to leave property once all weekend. It truly allowed us to relax and enjoy time with our family and friends. The staff was also very flexible with us and the specific things that were important to us for our wedding. For example, we had our DJ keep the music going until 2am and some guests continued an after party even beyond that. Lastly, the staff was always around on property for anything we needed and to make sure the rehearsal and wedding day went smoothly.I would recommend this venue to anyone looking to stay for a weekend with their guests in one of the most beautiful locations I have ever seen. Allison Wilson(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 20-11-2021 Having our wedding at Sugar Hollow was truly a magical experience! We really wanted a wedding weekend where we had more than just one day to celebrate with our family and friends, and Sugar Hollow offered just that! Having on site accommodations was such a convince and really added to our whole experience. We had all of our bridal party stay in the lodge with us, and our family’s stayed in the other on-site cabins. Everyone loved their cabins and said how comfortable their beds were. The lodge, the largest cabin, was big enough for us to host a brunch on Friday morning, with all the equipment we needed to serve a large crowd. It served as a gathering place for everyone for the whole weekend and it was perfect. Everyone had a private room, but could also congregate in the bar or by the fireplace. Sugar hollow has several options for your ceremony location, so we used one of their locations, the overlook deck as our first look location. We wanted all of our friends and family to experience all the beauty this venue had to offer so we planned a group hike on Friday to the overlook deck, it was the perfect spot for photos with everyone and we loved that everyone got to see the spot where we would do our private first look. There are tons of trails on the property but we took a gravel road up to the overlook so it was easily accessible for people of all ages. A few of our guests also used some of the trails during down time. On of the other locations on the property is the Overmountain Hall, which was too beautiful to use just once, so we had our rehearsal dinner there, where we had a fire and played bags. The day of the wedding us girls got ready in their beautiful bridal suite, equipped with Hollywood mirrors and cute decor which was perfect for getting ready pictures. Our ceremony took place right outside of Overmountain Hall and it was just breathtaking with the sunset in the mountains behind us. We loved their covered patio and side patios with cocktail tables right outside of overmountain to use for our cocktail hour. The reception space at Overmountian Hall was everything we wanted and more! Just stunning! Their catering kitchen and bar came in handy, and the space was perfect for our group. One of my favored things about this space is their fireplace, and their beautiful tables and chairs! To top off the beauty of Sugar Hollow their staff is amazing! Marty, the owner is the property checked in with us when we arrived to make sure everything was okay, and she was so sweet! She went above and beyond to help us during our wedding weekend and even helped us intercept a very important package to prevent a groomsman attire mishap. Kaleigh, the main coordinator at Sugar Hollow is one of the reasons that we booked Sugar Hollow. She was so amazing helping with vendor suggestions, and making my vision come to life. Even their maintenance man was so nice from the second we came for our tour, to helping set up the day of. Elliot Griffin(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 26-06-2021 We had our wedding weekend at Sugar Hollow on 6/26/21 and I cannot possibly imagine a better venue for what we were searching for. It was absolutely perfect. In our search for the perfect venue, we had two simple criteria: We wanted to get married in the mountains and have as many of our guests be able to stay on-site as possible. After visiting several other venues in NC and VA, we were referred to Sugar Hollow by Aleta who owns Frugal Gourmet Catering (more on her later) right down the road. We liked all of the other venues (House Mountain Inn, Twickenham, 12 Ridges Vineyard) but all were too small or had other logistical problems for us. Aleta did such a good job of selling us on Sugar Hollow that we showed up for our tour with Kaleigh with a bottle of champagne on ice. Immediately following the tour, we walked to the car, popped the cork, and took a glass in to celebrate with Kaleigh, knowing we had found our perfect venue. It is unlikely that anyone has ever made more use of all of the amenities of the property than we did. Our schedule went like this:Thursday - BBQ Dinner at the Lodge for ~120 people, followed by a sunset cocktail hour at the Overlook DeckFriday - Rehearsal dinner on the patio at Overmountain Hall for ~140 people, followed by an after-party with a band on the back patio of the LodgeSaturday - First Look at the Overlook Deck, followed by the wedding and reception at Overmountain Hall with ~200 people, followed by a Midnight-4AM late night party back at the Lodge patio. We had ~65 people staying on-site and most of our out-of-town guests rented all of the nearby cabins. Guests who were only in town for one night stayed at the Hampton Inn in Boone and we used Air Haven Limousine to transport them out via shuttle. If you have guests who are staying in Boone and planning to drink, a shuttle is imperative. While I have tons of praise for Sugar Hollow, I have even more for Aleta and her team at Frugal Gourmet. Without her we wouldn't have even known about Sugar Hollow (we thought it was too small because they hadn't updated their capacity since they were still finishing up Overmountain Hall) and her communication, professionalism, and food were top notch for 14 months as we planned the wedding. More over, we used her in a way that no one else ever had but I would highly suggest everyone else using this venue should. We charged our guests a higher rate for the three-night weekend (~$600 per room), but offered them breakfast every morning and dinner/alcohol every evening. Aleta's team catered all of this and her servers were invaluable in keeping people out of the Lodge kitchen and making sure it was also spotless when they left and when they arrived. Why deal with the hassle of all of your guests trying to cook meals simultaneously or you cooking in bulk for them? Aleta's prices are reasonable and it was well worth the added costs passed onto our guests for them to not have to worry about meals and clean up. Kaleigh was great to work with throughout and has become a friend we will stay in touch with long after the emotions of the weekend wear off. Marty is another unsung hero of the place who has run the day-to-day stuff for years. By far and away the most popular question we've gotten is, \"How in the world did you find this incredible place?\" I've run out of allotted characters but SHR is a 10/10 and I cannot imagine a better venue for a wedding of 100-200 people, especially for a full weekend. I wish I could include the pictures, but they won't do it justice. Also, the staff and everyone on site are WONDERFUL. Kaleigh and Julianna are a dream planning team. Not only did they communicate with me so well (and answer all my panic texts promptly), we also heard from all our other vendors how well they communicated with them too. They made the day so easy and stress free for me (not an easy feat). Also Marty, the caretaker, made sure we had everything we needed and all the spaces were set up so well for my guests. She also took care of a minor crises thanks to Mother Nature and handled it like a boss. I am already recommending this place to anyone I can and would get married here again in a heartbeat. Being only the second wedding in their new Hall facility overlooking the mountains, I can't say anything bad! Kaleigh did an amazing job of ensuring everything went smoothly with no hiccups! The views are PRICELESS, and we rented the facility for the weekend. I'd do it again in a heartbeat! Don't second guess - book this venue!!! Reviewed on 15-10-2020

However I was sent the wrong price on my invoice to pay, so They said they would update abd send back to me. It took a week to get a response back saying they could not turn over the venue in time for me from a wedding 48hrs in advance. I had envisioned my whole wedding here now I am booking another venue that makes me feel welcomed. Reviewed on 11-07-2020
Stephanie Vasquez(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 17-08-2019 Sugar Hollow is the ultimate wedding venue!!! We lived near the area and it was still like having a destination wedding. The location is gorgeous and private! Our guests loved it and haven't stopped talking about it!! We were able to have a wedding and have a place were could book overnight and not be asked to leave after a few hours for a reception. This is not the place where you will be charged an hourly rate. There are so many advantages to booking here! Now that I have talked about the location, I have to talk about how helpful, professional and just wonderful the people that work there are. We talked with Marty, Rex and Kaleigh. Marty is just amazing, available on the property and so caring and helpful. She was there when we toured the venue the first time and really help solidify our decision to book. Rex was available for any questions and everyone was very timely in their response. Last but not least, Kaleigh, who is the most supportive person. Kaleigh is the wedding planner that comes with the venue!! She saved the day more than once and was there every step of the way! We were so happy with Sugar Hollow! We had our dream wedding, better than we ever could imagine! I know anyone who gets married here will have the same experience! Reviewed on 21-02-2020

Not only was it all that but was affordable to boot and we could have our guests who stayed reimburse us for their rooms! Rachel Sinz(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 26-10-2019 BEST. VENUE. EVER. Where do I even start???From our initial phone conversations with the venue staff to our wedding day, we received nothing less than exceptional customer service and care. The inn keeper and event coordinator are part of the deal with this venue, and they alone are amazing people that helped seal the deal for us. Then, when you add in the breathtaking views, on-site lodging, and fun retreat extras, it was an easy decision for us to get married here. Our first visit to the venue included a personal guided tour from the inn keeper, and the event coordinator made herself available to assist us in all aspects of wedding planning throughout our entire engagement. We received amazing advice and recommendations on basically every vendor we would need. We actually chose many of the recommended vendors, who were all excellent. The ceremony sites, mountain lodge, and all the cottages are truly beautiful. Our wedding turned into a weekend celebration at the retreat with family and friends, and we are extremely thankful that we were able to share this experience with those we love most. As a very busy bride and groom, we couldn't have asked for a better team to take care of us. Wedding planning was stress-free, and our wedding day was the BEST day. Thank you to Sugar Hollow Retreat for everything! Chase and I are so appreciative for making our wedding day so special. Reviewed on 05-11-2019
Jacquelyn Wilcox(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 22-06-2019 Why is there not a 10 star rating!?It’s Magical. It’s rainbows and butterflies and I really think they have a unicorn. If such a creature exists it lives and thrives in Butler, Tennessee. This place is breathtaking and the crew is devoted. So devoted they are literally willing to hurt themselves for you on your special day. The accommodations are warm and inviting and the houses are so charming nestled in the sweetest and biodiverse forest. This magical fairy property was the place of my dream wedding and I cannot imagine getting married anywhere else. I highly recommend the weekend wedding for those who are shopping for the perfect venue. And, 24 hour kitchen access is pretty spectacular. Me and my crew were eating crab legs at 2 am post wedding. For the amount of planning that goes into it why not have all your besties with you for a weekend rather than 4-6 hours? You will not be disappointed with the weekend wedding and to actually have the ability to relax and enjoy the process of getting married! Reviewed on 29-07-2019
Martha Peller(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 14-10-2017 Sugar Hollow Retreat is the perfect get away for a weekend wedding! The property is absolutely gorgeous. We got married at the amphitheater where there is almost a 365 degree view of the surrounding mountains. What I would recommend about this venue: -Marty and Jim are easy to work with and very accommodating.-Freedom to choose all vendors. There are no restrictions. -Housing on site. We had 4 houses with our families in them, our bridal party stayed in the lodge, our friends camped, and everyone else rented cabins nearby. -Private. We had loud music until 3 a.m and did not have to worry about disturbing neighbors. -Reasonably priced for the accommodations. Things to take into consideration: -The property is 30-45 minutes away from Johnson City, TN or Boone, NC - keep this in mind if you need a town for anything. -Roads are one lane - can be tricky to navigate, but there are plenty of places to pull off -Parking at the lodge is limited. We had our guests park at the amphitheater and we shuttled them back and forth. -Limited cell service (however, we didn't mind!) Reviewed on 21-02-2018
Katy Rutledge(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 15-10-2016 Our wedding at Sugar Hollow was amazing. We rented out the property for the weekend, and it was incredible to spend the whole weekend with our friends and family celebrating our marriage. Marty and Jim (property managers) are very easy to work with, and you can literally chose any vendor you would like to do catering, rentals, photography, alcohol, etc. There are no noise restrictions, and the only thing we had to worry about was taking sheets off of the cabin beds sunday morning (check out was at 11 am, noon, or 1 pm for the cabins depending on what I chose) as well as taking the trash out. All of the bridal party stayed in the lodge and it was fun to have our best friends all staying in one place, and to get to actually hang out before and after the wedding. Only challenge with this venue was parking by the lodge, and some people complained about not having cell service. There is WIFI at the lodge though. I personally like how remote it is and how there isn't cell phone reception, it truly let us unplug and enjoy the weekend with everyone! Also, the cabins are all dog friendly, so our dogs got to spend the whole weekend running around and playing on the property. Can't wait to go back to Sugar Hollow for a weekend getaway. Brandee Harrison(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 31-08-2013 This was the first venue I visited and knew from the first visit this was it. No other venue I visited compared. I paid the cost to rent the venue and the only rules that applied were to put the trash out every morning, wash the dishes, and take the sheets off the beds. I got to choose my own vendors, serve anything I wanted, and have a band/music at whatever volume I wanted. The best thing was we didn't have a time limit. Venue rental is a minimum of two days and check out was 1 p.m. The cost can be a lot but, is well worth it and they have several options available with different pricing. The staff was extremely helpful and I was able to visit the venue as many times as I needed. The venue made my wedding one that everyone will be talking about beyond our 1st wedding anniversary. This venue allowed me to have a destination wedding without traveling far from home. I recommend this venue to anyone that wants to have a memorable wedding or anyone that wants to have a true mountain wedding. No other venue will provide you the helpful and wonderful staff provided by this venue. Reviewed on 06-10-2013
Carole Deans(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 15-09-2012 When my husband and I found Sugar Hollow, we visited in the dead of winter. Even with snow on the ground and leaves off the trees, we could see the potential for this beautiful venue. We booked it immediately! This venue was a dream come true for us. It provided several options for location for the ceremony, reception, and rehearsal dinner with 300 acres for our guests to explore and enjoy nature. Additionally, most of our family and friends could stay on-site. The staff of Sugar Hollow, Jim and Marty, were exceptional. They helped out with ideas for decorations to keeping the venue clean and home-like. Our wedding weekend became a destination for most of our family, many coming in early to help out and to explore the mountains. Our rehearsal dinner was in the Conference Center, complete with a traditional contra dance. We were married on the Overlook and held the reception at the Lodge. The mid-September weather was perfect. This venue encompassed our love of family and nature. I highly recommend it for its great value, flexibility, and the beauty of the mountains. Leigh Marie Pearigen(bride)5 out of 5 Rating Wedding Date 28-07-2012 What a fantastic place!! I feel so very lucky to have been able to host my wedding weekend festivities here. My husband and I both have very large families, and many friends. The accommodations' options were big and nice enough for everyone! As out of town family members arrived, they wondered why on earth I picked a place so far away and \"off the beaten path.\" After the first night, everyone understood! The beauty and peacefulness of Sugar Hollow was felt by everyone... especially the stressed out bride. No one wanted to leave!\rWe had our ceremony on the observation deck, and we couldn't' have asked for a more beautiful spot to exchange our vows. As guests crested the top of the hill to the overlook, the only sound you heard was, \"Wow.\" or \"Ahhh...\" As a matter of fact, it took us a while to get everyone seated for the ceremony because guests were all getting their picture taken with the breath-taking view in the background.\rThe staff at Sugar Hollow is probably my favorite part though. They were very helpful for this independent bride, and were there whenever we needed anything (even with the number of helping hands we had there). They are kind and respectful to you and your guests. We enjoyed Sugar Hollow so much that my husband and I planned a winter getaway in January with friends, filling the lodge once again. Our arrival was greeted with just as much warmth as our wedding weekend. \r Sugar Hollow is a wonderful, magical place that will always be very special to us, and we will continue to visit.
