An historic barn in the Mad River Valley

The Skinner Barn is a beautifully restored historical barn near the Northfield Ridge in Waitsfield, VT. This breathtaking wedding venue was originally a dairy barn built in 1891 by the Skinner family and sits upon 15 acres of beautiful landscapes. Boasting a quintessential Vermont setting, this site offers an incredible location to exchange vows and celebrate love with friends and family. Owner and operator Peter Boynton purchased this property in 1988 when it was in disrepair and need of love. After eight years of renovations, the vision of a social and cultural event space became a reality. Now catering to educational classes, parties, weddings, and special occasions, The Skinner Barn offers a romantic, joyous, and welcoming atmosphere to everyone who walks through the doors. The vendor team comprises talented professionals dedicated to making each event magical and memorable. They take pride in establishing relationships with couples during the planning process, working together to use creativity and experience to bring dream celebrations to life. The Skinner Barn comprises three stories, nestled into a hillside. The lower level houses the on-site bar, restrooms, and two get-ready rooms where nearlyweds and their wedding parties can prepare for the big day. These private areas have back doors ideal for organizing a first look between couples. The grounds offer three ceremony meadows, each providing a different atmosphere and tone. The Back Meadow is accessed over a romantic bridge crossing the Clay Brook, with views of the western ridgeline and a beautiful pond. The Lower Meadow has access to the barn's shelter and is ideal for receptions on days when the weather threatens celebrations. The High Meadow is perfect for the more adventurous festivities, with a modest hike to the southeast corner of the field and a remarkable view of Camel’s Hump at the peak. Each location offers truly fantastic photo opportunities. The Skinner Barn also provides a list of recommended vendors from the area to assist nearlyweds in their planning process.
